A Narrative Analysis Of Psychological Adjustments Of Professionals Transitioning To Work Following Cerebral Vascular Accident (Cva), Mabel Munachiso Korie
Theses & Dissertations
This research study was a narrative analysis of the psychological adjustment of professionals transitioning to work after a cerebral vascular accident, commonly known as a stroke. The purpose of this research was to explore the psychological adjustment of professionals who returned to work after a stroke following their subsequent rehabilitation. This has been an important subject because stroke research predominantly addresses older adults, which means that there has not been enough information on the experience of affected working-age professionals. The Roy Adaptation Model and Social Cognitive Theory were the frameworks for the study. The data collected were from audio-recorded and …

Sprint Mechanical Properties Of Professional Soccer Players During A Match Simulation, Markus Huthöfer, Eric Harbour, Hermann Schwameder, Josef Kröll
Sprint Mechanical Properties Of Professional Soccer Players During A Match Simulation, Markus Huthöfer, Eric Harbour, Hermann Schwameder, Josef Kröll
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The purpose of this study was to identify soccer-specific changes of mechanical properties in sprinting during a simulated soccer match. Professional soccer players (n=15) completed six sprint measurements before, during and after a simulated soccer game (i.e. Copenhagen Soccer Test). Mechanical properties (theoretical maximal sprinting velocity (V0), theoretical maximal horizontal force (F0), maximal horizontal sprinting power (Pmax) and the 20-metre sprint time were computed from continuous velocity data captured from a laser device. The results suggest that soccer-specific fatigue affects V0 more than F0. Furthermore, there is an inactivity-induced sprint performance loss because of the half-time break. However, at the …

ABSTRACT
Stress is a growing issue on college campuses, and students in a professional pharmacy program may be at an even greater risk for associated problems. The purpose of this study was to gain information about resilience and its relationship with stress, high-risk behaviors, and grade point averages (GPAs) in students who just completed their first professional (P1) year of a pharmacy program. The research questions for this study were: 1) What is the relationship between levels of stress and level of resilience in these pharmacy students, 2) What is the relationship between high-risk behaviors and level of resilience?, and …

Ehdi System Effectiveness: The Impact Of Community Collaboration, Kristina M. Blaiser, Gabriel Anne Bargen
Journal of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
Early Hearing Detection and Intervention systems rely on collaborative, coordinated systems, yet, in actuality, collaboration is often reduced to periodic communication related to processes. This can be even more important in a state like Idaho where access to providers and resources are limited in rural and remote areas. Researchers at Idaho State University were awarded a grant to bring together key community stakeholders with the goal of evaluating and improving families’ journeys from newborn hearing screening to enrollment in Part B educational services. This paper will outline the process and information that was collected as part of the Idaho Community …

Honors Theses
This paper is a compilation of various accounting studies assigned by Dr. Victoria Dickinson throughout a yearlong professional development course for accounting. During each of the twelve cases, the student was required to identify accounting principle problems within the cases, research proper accounting practices, and critically think through how these situations should have been handled in order for these companies to be in accordance with GAAP. There were also cases that facilitated decision making for students in their future career such as location decisions and articles regarding current accounting problems. This course allowed students to network with peers and accounting …

Epistemic Corporate Culture: Knowledge, Common Knowledge, And Professional Oaths, Boudewijn De Bruin
Epistemic Corporate Culture: Knowledge, Common Knowledge, And Professional Oaths, Boudewijn De Bruin
Seattle University Law Review
This Article does not assume that professional oaths accomplish what they are intended to do. Yet, I believe that oaths can fulfill important functions once they are crafted as part of carefully designed, more comprehensive approaches to managing ethical culture. Or better, I believe that by investigating more closely what an oath really is and what its preconditions are, we may gain insights that will help to change corporate culture for the better, even if companies do not wish to adopt oaths to manage ethics. Methodologically, this Article is grounded in various strands of philosophical research. In particular, I build …
Human Capital Is Not Enough: How Offshore Bpo Professionals Use Social Support To Deal With Strenuous Work Conditions, Jonathan W. Whitaker, Violet Ho, Sunil Mithas, Dongwon Lee
Human Capital Is Not Enough: How Offshore Bpo Professionals Use Social Support To Deal With Strenuous Work Conditions, Jonathan W. Whitaker, Violet Ho, Sunil Mithas, Dongwon Lee
Management Faculty Publications
The past decade has witnessed explosive growth in the segment of information technology (IT) professionals who work in the offshore business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. BPO positions are highly regimented and standardized with coercive and normative controls to deter employees from deviating from prescribed work procedures and exercising independent judgment. Coping with these challenges requires a different set of skills than human capital and technical competencies that are discussed in most prior information systems (IS) research. This paper develops theory on the role of social support in employee compensation, and tests the theory using a unique data set of 8,000+ …
Conceptualizing Occupational Therapists’ Change Agent Role To Support Entry-Level Pedagogical Activities: Results From A Scoping Study, Annie Carrier, Michaël Beaudoin
Conceptualizing Occupational Therapists’ Change Agent Role To Support Entry-Level Pedagogical Activities: Results From A Scoping Study, Annie Carrier, Michaël Beaudoin
Journal of Occupational Therapy Education
Entry-level programs are expected to support occupational therapy students in developing knowledge and skills pertaining to the change agent role. To do so, a detailed, multidimensional conceptualization of this role is necessary. To date, in the occupational therapy profession, there is no such conceptualization, which might impact educators’ ability to conduct relevant pedagogical activities. Our study aimed to explore the dimensions of the change agent role for occupational therapy practitioners. We undertook a scoping study of the scientific and grey literature up to August 31, 2018 to “map” what is known about the change agent role. We searched nine databases, …
Strategic Decision-Making In A Turbulent Business Environment: A Dynamic Capabilities Framework For Quantity Surveying Professional Service Firms In Ireland, Michael Adesi
Doctoral
The construction industry contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of nations through infrastructure development, and job creation culminating into the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Quantity Surveying Professional Service Firms (QSPSFs) play a critical role in the construction industry by ensuring that projects are delivered within cost, required quality and duration by providing technical and knowledge-intensive services to clients, contractors and stakeholders. Irish QSPSFs are facing challenges such as tender price inflation, intense competition, a skills shortage and disruptive technology. These challenges coupled with the cyclicality of the sector create a turbulent business environment for Irish QSPSFs, yet there …
Professional Learning Communities In An Elementary School: Teacher Perceptions, Implementation, And Impacts, Michael Garvin
Professional Learning Communities In An Elementary School: Teacher Perceptions, Implementation, And Impacts, Michael Garvin
West Chester University Doctoral Projects
The Every Student Succeeds Act (2015), signed into law by President Obama, reauthorized the elementary and secondary education act for K-12 students across the nation. A main component of ESSA resides with the professional development of teachers and administrators. The definition of teacher professional development by Learning Forward (2017) involves a sustained professional learning community (PLC) which is collaborative, intensive, job-embedded, and data driven. The idea of PLCs as a means of teacher professional development is the current popular trend amongst K-12 education (DuFour, 2004). PLCs are creating opportunities for teachers to collaborate regarding many aspects of the education profession. …

Divergence Of Safety And Security, David J. Brooks, Michael Coole
Divergence Of Safety And Security, David J. Brooks, Michael Coole
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
© 2020, The Author(s). Safety and security have similar goals, to provide social wellness through risk control. Such similarity has led to views of professional convergence; however, the professions of safety and security are distinct. Distinction arises from variances in concept definition, risk drivers, body of knowledge, and professional practice. This chapter explored the professional synergies and tensions between safety and security professionals, using task-related bodies of knowledge. Findings suggest that safety and security only have commonalities at the overarching abstract level. Common knowledge does exist with categories of risk management and control; however, differences are explicit. In safety, risk …

In Australia, there is a national education agenda for school improvement with an increasing focus on how school leaders can fulfil this agenda. As school principals are arguably faced with increasing demands, the importance of school middle leaders is increasing. This article presents the initial findings from a larger project on middle leadership in Australian schools, the first phase of which is a documentary analysis of significant texts including policy documents, websites and reports. The purpose of the document analysis was to examine expectations placed on, and support provided for, school middle leaders in Australian schools to make explicit the …
