Self-Exclusion And The Compulsive Gambler: The House Shouldn't Always Win, Justin E. Bauer
Self-Exclusion And The Compulsive Gambler: The House Shouldn't Always Win, Justin E. Bauer
Northern Illinois University Law Review
This Comment examines the law revolving around a compulsive gambler's ability to exclude himself from a casino. While the current state of the law in many jurisdictions properly allows a person to place himself on a self-exclusion list," in an effort to be barred from entering into a casino, the law provides no remedy for the self-excluded gambler in the event that the casino negligently, deliberately, or even recklessly allows the self-excluded person to gamble. This comment calls for a change to that jurisprudence and invites the judiciary to allow a self-excluded gambler to receive redress from the casino that …

Thermal Enhancement Of Stacked Dies Using Thermal Vias, Baekyoung Sung
Thermal Enhancement Of Stacked Dies Using Thermal Vias, Baekyoung Sung
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses
Following Moore's law, the number of transistors on a die continues to rise and has recently exceeded a billion on high end processors. In light of the convergence of technology, power requirements is becoming a serious concern even on low density interconnect systems such as cellular phones and personal digital assistants. Also, in order to minimize foot prints, the recent trend in packaging is stacking. The stacking, however, creates challenges in cooling and especially if one is to include logic in the stack. The primary heat flow path for stacking is through the substrate and as the number of stacks …

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
This paper presents a new approach in dealing with hybridization issues in communication systems or sensors. The thrust is to separate the logical network (sensor) infrastructure from the physical one. Here we show how we can exploit concepts such as persistent identification which we believe is crucial to be able to connect a variety of heterogeneous devices in a network that grows, and that is robust to failures. A vital characteristic of our architecture is the ability to accommodate a variety of heterogeneous devices and subsystems. Several examples of hybridization of sensors at the physical, logical, and network levels are …

The purpose of this research is to identify barriers to renewable energy technologies (RETs) at U.S. national parks located in the Pacific West Region (PWR), and to develop recommendations for appropriate policy interventions to address the barriers. A survey of energy managers representing the approximately 50 parks …
Vehicle & Infrastructure Relationships In Hydrogen Transportation Networks: Development Of The H2vision Modeling Tool, Patrick Meyer
Vehicle & Infrastructure Relationships In Hydrogen Transportation Networks: Development Of The H2vision Modeling Tool, Patrick Meyer
Theses
The political instability of acquiring oversea oil resources, the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the desire for inexpensive energy have recently driven a shift of focus towards hydrogen energy. It has become increasingly evident that there are significant barriers facing the development of a hydrogen-based energy system – a system commonly referred to as the “hydrogen economy”. The small quantities of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that have been deployed to date are not numerous enough to facilitate the growth of a substantial refueling infrastructure. Additionally, the underdeveloped and extremely limited infrastructure has imposed significant convenience costs upon consumers. …
