Quota management systems are now in place for the New Zealand, Tasmanian and South Australian rock lobster fisheries. New Zealand was the first to move to QMS (1989), followed by the Southern Zone of South Australia (1993), Tasmania (1998) and Northern Zone South Australia (2001). As part of a review of the system of management used for the West Coast Rock Lobster Fishery, a West Australian delegation visited New Zealand, Tasmania and South Australia in 2004 to learn more about the management systems in place for their respective rock lobster fisheries.

This report is on work-in-progress and is based on the research and data collection undertaken in the first two phases of the project. These two phases focused on the audit of available secondary data and collection of primary data that were used in preparing the profiles of the 17 communities included in the study. A further analysis of the interview transcripts on the views of other stakeholders will be undertaken. This study was designed to develop a substantive theory that would explain the process through which a family makes educational choices in Western Australia. The grounded theory method was chosen for this research. The participants in the study were mainly parents of children in Catholic schools who were invited to assist in the research through purposive sampling. Further theoretical sampling extended the parental informant group to include parents of children in the government sector as well as in non-government schools other than Catholic schools. This research is a longitudinal study, conducted in Catholic schools of Perth and its environs. From 1998 to 1999, recently appointed secondary Religious Education teachers were surveyed and interviewed, and re-interviewed eighteen months later. Initially, a comprehensive survey of three dioceses in Western Australia was conducted and formed a contextual database for the study. The database acted as the foundation for the selection of a purposive sample of teachers for the first round of interviews. Follow-up interviews with this sample cohort were carried out the following year. The research design used in this study assisted the development of a representative, …

The aims of this Resource Management Technical Report are to assess the current extent of salinity and other natural resource degradation hazards within the Hillman and Narrogin Zones of Western Australia. These zones cover 409,000 hectares in South West Western Australia, including the towns of Narrogin and Darkan. It also includes benchmarks and sustainability indicators that can be used by landholders and planners to determine the best management options for the area.

Western Australia produces all of its domestic fresh broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Chinese cabbage requirements and is ideally positioned to service markets in Asia, the Indian Ocean region and beyond. Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei account for about 78 per cent of vegetable brassica exports from Western Australia. However, markets also exist in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and the Middle East.

Based on the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1987 (EEOA), the DAFWA have set a target of increasing their rate of employment of individuals with disabilities to constitute 4% of their entire workforce. This thesis comprises two interrelated sections. The first section is a substantial piece of creative writing, which l have cailed 'Other People's Country: A Memoir, in the genre of travel memoir, and an essay. The memoir borrows techniques from fiction, drama and poetry to tell a story of a middle-aged, middle-class city nurse, who travels to a remote settlement at the edge of the Western Desert of Western Australia to provide health care for a fluctuating population of around 400 people, for whom English is a third or fourth language.
