This thesis examines the issues that have become enmeshed in the body politic of the current generation of Asian/Pacific American student activists at Oberlin College. It discusses students' personal trials as they confront academic burnout, institutional amnesia, and a continued lack of support for A/PA studies, through a case study of activism in motion. Other aspects of this research include the role of identity in pan-ethnic Asian American community organizing, the power dynamics of identity and the strategic deployment of identity as a political tool (Lowe 1991, Espiritu 1992). Learning While They Work: The Use Of Student Assistants In Two Academic Law Libraries, Ronald E. Wheeler, Stephanie Davidson

At the University of New Mexico School of Law Library (UNM), we are effectively using student assistants to help with the completion of faculty research projects. We find that the volume of faculty research that our library is able to complete is far greater due to the effective use of student assistants. During the calendar year 2005, our library completed over 500 research requests for the law school faculty. With only seven professional librarians, without student help, that volume of faculty research would probably not have been feasible.

Differing Cultural Perceptions Regarding The Appropriate Use Of Workplace Computer Technologies, Heidi Perreault, Nancy Keith

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

This study examined differences in perceptions of U.S. and international college students regarding appropriate use of computers. Ten common inappropriate computer-use behaviors were presented to students. Only two of the ten behaviors were identified by the students as being unacceptable. When compared by geographic region, the U.S. students rated four of the actions as being less acceptable than did the international students. Work experience had minimal influence on the students’ perceptions. The results indicate that regardless of nationality or previous work experience, students lack understanding of the appropriate use of workplace computer technologies. In the educational climate of no Child Left Behind (NCLB), school personnel are searching for any means available to help all children succeed academically and meet state standards. School teachers and administrators in Virginia are no different. All schools and school districts, in Virginia and across the country, must demonstrate through adequate yearly progress (AYP) that children are achieving state standards of education. In large-scale educational assessments, such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), a primary concern is with the estimation of the population-level characteristics of a number of latent variables and the relationships between latent variables and other variables. Typically these studies are undertaken in contexts in which there are constraints on sample size and individual student response time, yet there are high expectations with regard to the breadth of content coverage. Starting as an undergraduate in one of Harvard's residential colleges, Dunster House, and reinforced by being a life governor of an Oxford college (Harris Manchester) as well as a sometime resident in Mitchell Hall of Makerere University in Uganda and St. George's College in the University of Western Australia, I have long been an advocate of the residential college as an important part of tertiary education. While this is a somewhat pidgin translation, it commemorates an association with one such college in Mexico.
