A Journey In Transforming My Passion Into Reality: Creating A Business Based On Artwork, Christine Wirth May 2006

A Journey In Transforming My Passion Into Reality: Creating A Business Based On Artwork, Christine Wirth

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project was about creating a business in which I would create and sell my artwork. I developed the materials necessary for a legitimate business, which included a website, a three-dimensional flyer, a business card, a portfolio, and obtained a tax number. In addition, I created many pieces of artwork; some were created to sell and some were created out of the need for personal expression. This included jewelry, photography, paintings and sculptures. I was able to place my artwork in two stores. This project was a journey in risk taking and self-actualization. I was able to transform my dreams, …

Well, perhaps there is; the relationship between leadership in sports and leadership in business, perhaps even leadership in our everyday lives.

“The Management Of Creativity”, Managing The Creative Mind: A Business Elective, Peter A. Maresco, John Gerlach Jan 2006

“The Management Of Creativity”, Managing The Creative Mind: A Business Elective, Peter A. Maresco, John Gerlach

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal

The immediate problem facing the authors was replacing someone with the background and stature of Joseph Abboud with an individual or, as it eventually worked out, four individuals with differing creative backgrounds and levels of success that would be of benefit to the students (in the spring 2006 semester the course was offered to undergraduate business students) enrolled in the course. Replacing Abboud proved to be not as difficult as the authors originally imagined. Within a period of three weeks, four individuals with diverse backgrounds in film, music, sports entertainment, and entrepreneurship were identified and agreed to take part in …

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

The boom in technology has taken over every sector of the private and public life. From hospitals to banks, military to schools and even stores, all indulge in the use of some form of technology. A by-product of this boom has been the immense amount of data that is divulged to strangers every single day. So how do customers of these services know that the people, who are serving them and taking down their personal data at a daily basis, have the sense of professionalism to ensure privacy and security? How do organizations ensure they are hiring the people with …

Turning Marketing Promises Into Business Value: The Experience Of An Industrial Sme, Victoria Little, Judith Motion, Rod Brodie, Richard Brookes Jan 2006

Turning Marketing Promises Into Business Value: The Experience Of An Industrial Sme, Victoria Little, Judith Motion, Rod Brodie, Richard Brookes

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

How can businesses create more value for their customers and shareholders? One way of understanding this task is to apply the promises framework: promises made to customers, promises kept, and promises enabled. Traditionally marketers made the promises, leaving keeping and enabling activities to other departments (e.g. logistics, manufacturing and customer service) and to senior management. However, marketers are increasingly acknowledging that creating and delivering value to customers requires a synchronised effort from the whole firm, not only marketers.

The Effect Of Small Business Clusters In Prioritising Barriers To E-Commerce Adoption In Regional Smes, Robert Macgregor, Lejla Vrazalic Jan 2006

The Effect Of Small Business Clusters In Prioritising Barriers To E-Commerce Adoption In Regional Smes, Robert Macgregor, Lejla Vrazalic

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents a study of Swedish regional small businesses which investigated the barriers to E-commerce adoption (amongst other things). The aim of the paper is twofold: to examine the correlation between barriers to E-commerce adoption in order to identify underlying factors: and to determine whether these differ between SMEs that are members of a small business cluster and SMEs that are not. The paper begins by examining the nature of SMEs and identifying features that are unique to SMEs. A discussion of barriers to E-commerce adoption based on previous research is then presented and the barriers are mapped to …

An Empirically Derived Taxonomy Of Information Systems Integration, Thawatchai Jitpaiboon, T.S. Ragu-Nathan, Mark A. Vonderembse

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Information systems integration (ISI) represents the degree of cooperation in information system practices between business functions within a firm and between a firm and its trading partners. Although the establishment of information systems integration objective has been reported as one of the key concerns of top management because ISI enhances the firms’ competitiveness and growth, the classification of the information system practices and its managerial implications are still vaguely developed. The two objectives of this paper are: (1) to develop a taxonomy of information systems integration (ISI) called ISI-Matrix, and (2) to report managerial implications for matching each information system …

Determining Information Requirements For E-Business Systems From Activity Space To Information Space, Kecheng Liu, Lily Sun Jan 2006

Determining Information Requirements For E-Business Systems From Activity Space To Information Space, Kecheng Liu, Lily Sun

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The study of information requirements for e-business systems reveals that the level of detail, granularity, format of presentation, and a broad range of information types are required for the applications. The provision of relevant information affects how e-business systems can efficiently support the business goals and processes. This paper presents an approach for determining information requirements for e-business systems (DIRES) which will allow the user to describe the core business processes, whose specification maps onto a business activity space. It further aids a configuration of information requirements into an information space. A case study of a logistics company in China …

Statistical questions are some of the most frequent questions at any reference desk; they are also some of the most complicated questions to answer. There is an overflow of statistical information. Researchers usually consult a variety of private and government resources in order to find the right statistical information. Researchers also face the challenge of decentralization where several government agencies collect and disseminate similar statistical information.

Financial education is essential not only for accounting and finance students and business managers, but also for individuals who do not have a financial planning and control processes. Companies understand the need of financial education and many of them offer introductory financial courses for their employees. Seminars such as "Accounting for Non-Accounting People" cover basic principles of both financial and management accounting and are becoming very popular in the corporate world. Although Understanding Financial Management was written for MBA students or business managers and not for the non-financial individual, some of the principles discussed in this book could be of …

Regulation A: Small Businesses’ Search For “A Moderate Capital”, Rutheford B. Campbell Jr. Jan 2006

Regulation A: Small Businesses’ Search For “A Moderate Capital”, Rutheford B. Campbell Jr.

Law Faculty Scholarly Articles

Small businesses are an important part of our national economy, accounting for as much as 40% of our total economic activity and providing society with important services and products.

Small businesses face daunting economic, structural, and legal impediments when they attempt to acquire external capital. The absence of financial inter-mediation services means that they are almost always on their own to find investors. Their small capital needs mean that their relative offering costs are often sky high. Federal and state securities rules significantly exacerbate these economic and structural disadvantages by imposing onerous and unwarranted conditions on their search for external …

Towards Equity And Efficiency In Partnership Allocations, Darryll K. Jones Jan 2006

Towards Equity And Efficiency In Partnership Allocations, Darryll K. Jones

Journal Publications

The primary goal of any tax system is to raise sufficient revenue for government. More precisely, taxation is the means by which government supplies necessary things not available from the private market. Taxation allows society to cure distributional imperfections in the market. It is appropriate, therefore, only to the extent that the market cannot provide goods and services for which there is public demand; if private markets equitably supplied food, shelter, health care, education, and common defense, taxes could be greatly reduced if not completely eliminated. The revenue raising goal is thwarted to the extent the taxing system is either …

The Tax Offset For Entrepreneurs: A Critical Review Of The 25% Tax Offset Concession For Small Business, John Mclaren Jan 2006

The Tax Offset For Entrepreneurs: A Critical Review Of The 25% Tax Offset Concession For Small Business, John Mclaren

Faculty of Business - Papers (Archive)

From 1 July 2005, small business taxpayers using the Simplified Tax System and with a turnover of $50,000 or less are allowed a tax offset of 25 per cent on their tax payable. If turnover exceeds $50,000, the tax offset phases out at 1 per cent until the turnover reaches $75,000. This tax concession was part of the government's election statement made on 26 September 2004 in which the government stated that it wanted to assist and encourage small business entrepreneurs, particularly those set up from home. The steps involved in calculating the amount of tax offset that can be …

Taking Care Of (E)-Business? Australian It Professionals' Views Of Wireless Network Vulnerability Assessments, Keir Dyce, Mary Barrett Jan 2006

Taking Care Of (E)-Business? Australian It Professionals' Views Of Wireless Network Vulnerability Assessments, Keir Dyce, Mary Barrett

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

M-commerce, a growing sub-category of E-business, allows business to be done 'anywhere, anytime'. However security of wireless devices remains problematic. It is unclear whether protocols to alleviate security problems, such as wireless vulnerability assessments (WNVAs), are being used or are effective. The paper reports on a survey-based study of Australian computer security professionals' use of and opinions about two types of WNVA: wireless monitoring and penetration testing. An initially surprising finding was how little both types are used, despite the ease with which wireless networks can be attacked and the fact that penetration testing is fairly well understood. In the …

A Time Series For Business Profitability In Twentieth-Century Australia, David Merrett, Simon Ville Jan 2006

A Time Series For Business Profitability In Twentieth-Century Australia, David Merrett, Simon Ville

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

Australia has historical time series for a wide range of economic data covering most of the twentieth century. These include statistical information relating to national income, demography, prices, external trade, financial markets, and the government sector. However, we lack a long time series for business profits. We have calculations for some industries, especially banking, and national figures from 1985 using the IBIS database.
