Religious Perspectives On Business Ethics, Scott Paeth, Thomas O'Brien
Thomas W O'Brien
In the first anthology of its kind, Thomas O'Brien and Scott Paeth have gathered unique pieces from across religious perspectives to illustrate the growing influence and contribution of religion to the field of business ethics. Tackling such wide-ranging subjects as Jewish environmental ethics, Zen in the workplace, and Christian social ethics, this text is a valuable addition to business ethics courses.

Financial Analysis And Fiscal Viability Of Secondary Schools In Mukono District, Uganda, Janet Jeffery Tanner
Financial Analysis And Fiscal Viability Of Secondary Schools In Mukono District, Uganda, Janet Jeffery Tanner
Theses and Dissertations
Within the worldwide business community, many analysis tools and techniques have evolved to assist in the evaluation and encouragement of financial health and fiscal viability. However, in the educational community, such analysis is uncommon. It has long been argued that educational institutions bear little resemblance to, and should not be treated like, businesses. This research identifies an educational environment where educational institutions are, indeed, businesses, and may greatly benefit from the use of business analyses. The worldwide effort of Education for All (EFA) has focused on primary education, particularly in less developed countries (LDCs). In Sub-Saharan Africa, Uganda increased its …

Leading With Timeless Values In Turbulent Times (Oak Brook, Il), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In this speech at the Executives Breakfast Club of Oak Brook, IL, Pollard asks whether businesses can uphold "timeless values" in a pluralistic society. He goes on to contend that they can if only managers see themselves as being moral as well as corporate leaders.

A Soft Landing, Steady Growth, And Accelerating Farm Income, John Austin, Chris Decker, Tom Doering, Ernie Goss, Nick Hernandez, Bruce Johnson, Ken Lemke, Franz Schwarz, Scott Strain, Eric Thompson, Keith Turner
Economics Faculty Publications
After years of accelerating growth, the U.S. economy achieved a soft landing in 2006. The rate of economic growth remained positive but slowed sufficiently to reduce inflation pressures and the need for further interest rate increases. At the same time the economy remained strong enough to continue the current expansion which has been in place since late 2001. Such a soft landing is vital because it should allow the economy to continue to expand for years to come, but with moderate inflation.

Subsidiary Entrepreneurship: An Exploratory Study, Enda Carolan
Subsidiary Entrepreneurship: An Exploratory Study, Enda Carolan
Masters
This is a study of subsidiary entrepreneurship. In recent years entrepreneurship has been promoted by academics, practitioners and governmental agencies as a panacea for subsidiary managers as they attempt to sustain and grow their subsidiaries. The research question that underpins this works relates to the transposition of the concept of entrepreneurship into large nature business units of multinational corporations (MNC). Drawing on four case studies of subsidiary managers who invoke the discourse of entrepreneurship to make sense of their managerial behaviour, this study examines the difference between entrepreneurship and subsidiary entrepreneurship. There are two key findings. Firstly subsidiary entrepreneurship is …

Performance Based Pay: Is It A Functional Alternative In Government?, Jerry Templet
Performance Based Pay: Is It A Functional Alternative In Government?, Jerry Templet
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The use of performance-based, or incentive based, compensation plans is ubiquitous in the private sector. Private business operates under the belief that the use of incentives leads to increased performance from employees and higher profits for the companies. This study is centered on the function of those performance-based pay plans within the government. Its purpose is to determine if the use of such pay plans is effective, both for the efficiency of government organizations and the motivation of employees. Through the analysis of government documents and organizational plans, and interviews of human resource managers and employees, this study analyzes performance-based …

South Kingstown Ri: New Zoning For An Historic Mill, Maggie Jones, Richard Barringer
South Kingstown Ri: New Zoning For An Historic Mill, Maggie Jones, Richard Barringer
Planning
The village of Peace Dale in the town of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, developed around several mills that commenced operations in the 1800s. One mill, known as the Palisades, is still partially active and in excellent condition, but much of its square footage is unutilized. A citizens’ group of artists and business people joined with the mill owners and the town of South Kingstown to develop new zoning regulations to make more flexible the permitted uses for the mill site. The proposed zoning will allow the mill complex to feature a mix of retail, residential, and manufacturing uses, while preserving …

Fair Enough: Ethics And Entrepreneurship, Robert G. Crawford
Fair Enough: Ethics And Entrepreneurship, Robert G. Crawford
Faculty Publications
The "new" is presumptively something that ought to be but isn't. On what grounds should that something be permitted? In business, why are some things legal for sale - deemed moral - while other similar things are deemed illegal - or immoral? Is the ground of this approval process rational? Or is the ground for making such decisions just competing moral perspectives?
