1999.2 - Abandoibarra Composite Bilbao, Martin Price, John Martin Oury

School of Architecture Student Projects

Design work from the 1999 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Abandoibarra. John Martin Oury. The Bilbao project is a composite of housing, commercial, provincial and municipal offices, library, hotel, commercial space and parking which interfaces with the city and the river. The grid of the city is respected with street vistas that continue between the swirling forms, which are inspired by Serra's torqued ellipses. Intensity of the swirling shapes increases near the Guggenheim Museum and decreases in response to the straight lines of the Euskalduna Concert Hall. Government offices are located …

Multifragment emission following 129Xe+197Au collisions at 30A, 40A, 50A, and 60A MeV has been studied with multidetector systems covering nearly 4π in solid angle. The correlations of both the intermediate mass fragment and light charged particle multiplicities with the transverse energy are explored. A comparison is made with results from a similar system 136Xe+209Bi at 28A MeV. The experimental trends are compared to statistical model predictions.

Glueball Production In Peripheral Heavy-Ion Collisions, Alec Schramm Aug 1999

Glueball Production In Peripheral Heavy-Ion Collisions, Alec Schramm

Alec J Schramm

The method of equivalent quanta is applied both to photon-photon and, by analogy, to double pomeron exchange in heavy-ion collisions. This Weizsäcker-Williams approach is used to calculate production cross sections for the glueball candidate fJ(1710) meson via photon-photon and pomeron-pomeron fusion in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at both RHIC and LHC energies. The impact parameter dependence for total and elastic cross sections is presented, and compared with results for proton-proton collisions.

This accident occurred because the deminer activated a PROM mine, it is not possible to prove how the fuse was activated. In view of the fact that the deminers on the site were consistently exceeding established productivity rates by an excessively large amount, it is the view of the Board that the excessive operating speed was the major contributing factor.

In this dilemma case study, the executives of a popular restaurant chain must decide whether to use irradiated meat, in this case, beef, to protect its customers from the bacteria, E. coli. Students learn about food irradiation and discuss issues related to food safety and the public’s acceptance of new food technologies. As developed, the case could be used in a variety of introductory science courses in chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, and agricultural science.
