Demographic Trends And Consumer Demand For Agricultural Products, Patricia Knight Guseman, Stephen G. Sapp

Food consumption patterns affected by macro-level population characteristics are examined with respect to projected demographic trends. Standard demand models based on price and income are enhanced to reflect impacts of total population, household size, and regional population distribution. These models provide baseline information for illustrating effects on food demand under different social-demographic scenarios, such as changes in population size, regional migration pat terns, and changes in household size, composition, and income growth, rates. Likely demographic projections show a greater proportional effect of total population, household size, and regional shifts on food demand than income for some commodities and for total …

Sociodemographic Predictors Of Rural Poverty: A Regional Analysis, Alton Thompson, Betty J. Traub, Randall P. White
Journal of Rural Social Sciences
The focus of the present study is to determine the extent to which the socio-demographic variables of education, occupation, number of children, race, sex, age, and willingness to travel for employment and predictors of a rural family's level of poverty. Discriminant analysis is employed to assess the accuracy of these variables in - discriminating between poor and nonpoor families randomly selected from thirty low income, rural counties in ten contiguous southeastern states. The results are supportive of previous studies as these variables are found to be statistically significant discriminants between the poor and the nonpoor. The profile of a rural …

Lateral Coherence Of Aerosol-Scattered Laser Radiation, Donald D. Duncan, D. E. Larch
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations
To assess the probability of detection (by interferometric techniques) of illumination by a coherent source, we characterize the lateral coherence of the off-axis aerosol scattered radiation by applying the van Cittert-Zernike theorem. We find that, for 1.061-pm radiation at a target range of 1 km, the scattered radiation beyond 3.5 cm off axis does not display appreciable lateral coherence.

Adds statute that declares California to be a Nuclear-Free Zone; prohibits certain processed radioactive material within California; prohibits State investing in civil defense against nuclear war or crisis relocation plans; prohibits activities directly related to nuclear war within California; requires legislation defining process by which affected entities shall convert to nuclear-free enterprises; requires State to divest itself of all investments in industries or institutions involved in or preparing for nuclear war; prohibits subsidies to war related industries; encourages contracts with entities without nuclear involvement; requires placing Nuclear-Free Zone signs at borders. PHASE OUT OF LOCAL RENT CONTROL. CONVERSION OF RENTAL HOUSING TO TENANT OWNERSHIP. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Provides no local government shall regulate rent for units first occupied or voluntarily vacated after 1984, or in manner denying fair return. Adds new statute providing procedures for conversion of rental housing to tenant ownership upon participation of tenants representing at least 60% of residential units. Requires tenants be given option of purchasing units at prices set in application, selling this right, or continuing to reside in units under terms of existing rental agreement, rent control ordinances, and this statute. Contains additional requirements and restrictions. …

On The Meaning Of Kategoria In Aristotle's Categories, John P. Anton
The Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy Newsletter
All the commentators who have suppressed the terminological difference between predicate and predication (κατηγορούμενον and κατηγορία) conclude that kategoria means 'predicate', thus lending their authority to a misreadng of the passages in which Aristotle uses the word κατηγορία to mean 'attributive proposition.' In this paper I take the position presented as an argument to support a different reading and with the hope that the established interpretation can be challenged through a fresh examination of the textual testimonies to accommodate the suppressed part of Aristotle's theory of categories as ultimate types of canonical propositions.
