The Great Cultural Commission: Fulfilling The Command Of Jesus To Lead And Create A Culture Different Than The World’S, Kevin D. Geer
The Great Cultural Commission: Fulfilling The Command Of Jesus To Lead And Create A Culture Different Than The World’S, Kevin D. Geer
Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
Jesus gathered his disciples together and shared with them how the leaders of this world love to use their influence, power, and titles to rule over those they lead. Jesus told his disciples “among you it will be different” (Matt 20:26) compared to the leadership of the world. Jesus called his disciples to the Great Culture Commission, a call to servant leadership in which one uses their opportunities, gifts, and advantages to lift everyone else around them. This call creates a culture that propels the Great Commission while cultivating servant-hearted leadership. The intent of this dissertation is to discover the …
Piloting Brief, Just-In-Time Training Videos For Mentors: Expanding And Strengthening Motivational Interviewing For Youth, Mackenzie J. Hart
Piloting Brief, Just-In-Time Training Videos For Mentors: Expanding And Strengthening Motivational Interviewing For Youth, Mackenzie J. Hart
Theses and Dissertations
Having paraprofessional providers, such as youth mentors, deliver evidence-based services, has been posited to increase the reach of youth services given the affordability and ubiquity of mentors in school settings. Further, examinations of mentor-delivered Motivational Interviewing (MI) have shown promise in increasing youth mentees’ academic performance and wellbeing. Yet, traditional methods used for training mentors to use MI effectively and sustainably can be costly and time-consuming processes. Previous work has suggested the value of asynchronous, brief, just-in-time trainings (JITTs) to help offset these challenges; however, MI JITTs for mentors have not yet been formally evaluated. As such, the present study …

Predictive Performance And Teaming Via The Mist-C Ocean Hierarchy Utilizing Personality And Skills, Brighton H. Owen
All Theses
This thesis seeks to establish and define the individual, the team as an entity, and qualify various metrics to predict team performance. When several individuals come together, they form a team that is often capable of designing and developing concepts beyond the individual on their own by methods of task dispersion, goal orientation, communication, and more. With these teams comes growth and increased performance leading to more efficient processes and better metrics by which performance may be measured. To achieve this, 34 engineering students in the AerosPACE senior design program, which lasted two semesters, were asked to complete surveys in …

Antecedent And Consequence Of Flux In Coordination Caused By Team Membership Change, Taejin Hwang
Antecedent And Consequence Of Flux In Coordination Caused By Team Membership Change, Taejin Hwang
Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Teams in diverse settings experience membership change. Although researchers have examined what happens in a team after membership change, we know little about what happens in a team after members are informed about the upcoming change and before the change actually happens. I develop and test a conceptual model of how teams respond to the news of upcoming membership change. Drawing on social identity theory, I propose that decreased team identification of members who will soon leave a team would necessitate members who will stay in a team to modify their coordination mechanisms which result in flux in coordination. Because …

Application Of Project Management Strategies And Tools For An Efficient And Successful Competition-Based Engineering Senior Capstone Design Project, Benton Duane Morris
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
The industry-level engineering workforce for a project in modern times requires a clear plan and management process to execute the goals of the consumer and the producer. The engineers of tomorrow need the ability to be competitive and successful upon entry into the industry, where there have already been established management tactics for the execution of the company's goals. The mentality within the industry is adaptable to senior collegiate-level competition-based capstone projects. Therefore the West Virginia University EcoCAR Mobility Challenge team has adapted, altered, or adjusted industry-level practices in order to have an overall functioning and effective team that follows …
In-Basket Teamwork: Divide The Work And Multiply The Success The Registered Nurse Role In Ambulatory Clinic Ehr In-Basket Management, James Smoot
Master's Projects and Capstones
Electronic Health Record (EHR) in-basket results (e.g., lab results, pathology reports, etc.) must be reviewed and acted upon in a timely manner by clinical staff in order to provide safe and effective care to ambulatory patients. Delays in reading results are significant contributors to medical errors. A large backlog of in-basket results that have never been appropriately filed is both a safety concern and a symptom of other clinical workflow issues. EHRs have shifted a greater proportion of administrative and triage roles onto providers, contributing to provider burnout. This paper synthesizes some of the best evidenced-based practices available for the …
Follower Helping Behavior In Engineering Design Teams: Theoretical Constructs And Protocol Analyses, Jessica Plaunt
Follower Helping Behavior In Engineering Design Teams: Theoretical Constructs And Protocol Analyses, Jessica Plaunt
All Theses
The purpose of this research is to develop an understanding of followership behaviors in engineering design team situations by studying leadership behaviors. While leadership in engineering design teams has been studied from role, function or behavior, and individual characteristic perspectives, no studies appear to examine (follower) helping behavior in the context of an engineering design team. Understanding this behavior can lead to intervention strategies that might be employed to improve team dynamics and performance. To this end, a theoretical framework of follower behavior is defined based on a review of “helping behavior” from the literature. Characteristics of follower helping behavior …

The Downside Of National Team Identity: A Model To Measure Negative Outcomes Of Team Identity, Fei Gao
Theses and Dissertations
Team identity has been a prevailing subject and has drawn a wide range of attention from both academia and the sport industry. The previous literature indicates that team identity had significant impact on team-related purchases, game attendance, TV viewership, loyalty, other social identities (e.g., national identity), etc. However, the majority of team identity studies were merely focused on unveiling these positive outcomes of team identity. Little is known about how team identity works on fans’ negative sentiment toward outgroup members. The purpose of this dissertation was to establish a model to measure the effect of team identity on xenophobia and …
An Examination Of Employee Coachability And Managerial Coaching In Organizations, Jake Alexander Weiss
An Examination Of Employee Coachability And Managerial Coaching In Organizations, Jake Alexander Weiss
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
Volatile, complex, and ambiguous work environments require organizations to focus on continuous employee development and performance improvement across all organizational levels. As a result, organizational development (OD) practices for employee development rapidly increased throughout the past decade. One such vital individualized training intervention – organizational coaching – facilitates continuous behavioral change, development, and performance improvement across employees (Joo et al., 2012). Researchers, like practitioners, though, often examine coaching in isolation, focusing on the coach without considering the impact those being coached (i.e., coachees) have on the success of the coaching process. Coachees’ ability to seek, thoughtfully consider, act, and change …
How Does Status Affect Performance And Learning From Failure? Evidence From Online Communities, Tengjian Zou
How Does Status Affect Performance And Learning From Failure? Evidence From Online Communities, Tengjian Zou
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
This dissertation is composed of two essays. In the first essay, I investigate the factors that can alleviate the detrimental effect of hierarchy on team performance. I first show that hierarchy negatively impacts team performance, which is consistent with recent meta-analytic evidence. One mechanism that drives this negative effect is that hierarchy prevents low-ranking members from voicing their potentially valuable insights. Then I propose that team familiarity is one factor that can encourage low-ranking team members to speak up. I contend that team familiarity can be established either by team members’ prior experience in working with one another or can …

The Influence Of Team Cohesion And Contextual Performance On Project Team Performance Over Time, Melissa Vazquez
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
Theory and empirical research suggest that team cohesion and contextual performance relate to team performance. However, while general support exists for a team cohesion and contextual performance relationship, less is known about the how the relationship evolves over time. This study aimed to examine the extent to which team cohesion and contextual performance reciprocally relate over time. Data were collected from 245 individuals comprising 40 student project teams engaged in the Capsim business simulation over a 10-week quarter. Results supported hypothesis 1; based on a cross-lagged path model, a stronger relationship exists between contextual performance at time point 1 and …

Browse all Theses and Dissertations
Collaboration, cohesion, and trust within teams can lead to beneficial outcomes such as innovation, speed of innovation delivery, enhanced creativity, and improved performance. Because of the prevalence of teams in the workforce, it is important that teams function at their highest capacity. One way to enhance team functioning may be to improve emotional intelligence (EI) in team members. Research has shown that higher EI is related to individual benefits such as stress resilience, better communication, relationship satisfaction, and improved performance. Team benefits of higher EI include greater cohesion, cooperation, trust, and performance. This study examined whether an emotional competency training …

Veteran Administration Disease Model To An Interdisciplinary Healthcare Model, Bertha J. Harris
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is a growing need for healthcare teams within the Veterans Administration (VA) healthcare system to effectively collaborate and communicate to improve patient outcomes. The need to improve patient care in the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) has been well established. The scholarly literature does not provide evidence whether using the primary care PACT model on communication and teamwork by an interdisciplinary medical team ameliorates these communication breakdowns. Bronstein's design for interdisciplinary collaboration provided the overarching framework for this study. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the use of the PACT model on communication and teamwork …

Testing A New Model Of Team Interdependence, Natasha E. Ouslis
Testing A New Model Of Team Interdependence, Natasha E. Ouslis
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Companies rely on teams to combine their different skills and solve multidisciplinary problems (Engestrom, 2008; Schrage, 1995). One crucial characteristic of teams is their interdependent nature (Sundstrom, de Meuse, & Futrell, 1990). However, interdependence as a construct is not well understood and its role in dynamic team processes is not clear. Recent theoretical advances have proposed a new model of interdependence – one that places two forms of interdependence at the beginning of a path that leads through task and social constructs to team effectiveness (Courtright, Thurgood, Stewart, & Pierotti, 2015). This new model was tested in two data sets …
A Dual-Process Team Mood Framework Of Team Creativity, Sean Teck Hao Lee
A Dual-Process Team Mood Framework Of Team Creativity, Sean Teck Hao Lee
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
While it has been recognized that mood can exert a substantive influence on an individual’s level of creativity, much of the creative needs of organizations today are being fulfilled by brainstorming teams rather than individual employees. As such, researchers have begun to examine the effects of mood on creativity in the context of teams. Existing findings, unfortunately, have not been consistent, such that positive mood has been shown to be beneficial towards team creativity at times (e.g., Grawitch, Munz, Elliott, & Mathis, 2003), while at other times being harmful towards team creativity (e.g., Tsai, Chi, Grandey, & Fung, 2012). Similarly, …
