Influences Of Independency In Milton's Early Life, Peter A. Edmunds
Influences Of Independency In Milton's Early Life, Peter A. Edmunds
Master's Theses
My thesis is that Milton did develop in his youth, mainly under the influence or Dr. Gill, a belief in his own reason as an arbitrator in theological disputes. It is this characteristic advanced Protestant view that transcends church and king together with his plea for toleration and his attack on the clergy in "Lycidas" that place him in this early period already somewhat in the tradition or deism suggested by Toland . When Thomas Paine, the revolutionary deist, wrote in The Age of Reason, "My mind is my own church," he was stating a basic belief of Milton. Thomas …

James Mellor: English Convert And Handcart Pioneer - A Biography, Edna J. Gregerson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
For many years the descendants of John and James Mellor -- a large family who have made contributions to the cultural and educational activities of their various communities -- have been desirous of preserving for their posterity, and others, a record of the Mellors. Several years ago Amy Mellor Howe initiated the project by compiling and editing the first Mellor History. The foreword in her book wherein she "...hoped that the information and data herein contained may form the nucleus for further research..." served as the incentive to continue the project.
It is planned to incorporate the following biography into …
A History Of The Manti Temple, Glen R. Stubbs
A History Of The Manti Temple, Glen R. Stubbs
Theses and Dissertations
The history of the Manti temple, in a sense, began the first winter the Mormon Pioneers spent in Sanpete Valley. Because of the extreme cold they move to "temple hill" for protection. This same hill later became the site of the temple.
It had been predicted by Heber C. Kimball that a temple would someday be built on this spot. By 1873 plans were being made to this end. Preparations for construction were soon in progress and on April 25, 1877, the site was dedicated by President Brigham Young.

A Historical Study Of Four Famous Western Gunfighters, William F. Cheek
A Historical Study Of Four Famous Western Gunfighters, William F. Cheek
Master's Theses
In any argument that might arise concerning the question of who were the greatest gunfighters of all time, the qualifications of four men to this hallowed position will never be questioned. Indeed, the names of Billy the Kid (Henry McCarty), Wyatt Earp, John Henry "Doc" Holliday, and William Barclay "Bat" Masterson, have become symbols for the turbulent and lawless days of the 1870's and 1880's in the Southwest. In addition each man has been raised to a position alongside Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill in the evolution of the great American legend.
What were those men really like? Is their …

It was the main objective of the Federal Government, since the Capitol of the Confederacy was at Richmond. Throughout this turmoil there was a leader and a statesman in the governor's chair. …
Public Life Of Peyton Randolph, Sidney Barney
Public Life Of Peyton Randolph, Sidney Barney
Honors Theses
Randolph was a man well read in law, and a person whose opinions were often asked and highly esteemed. He was a very large and inert man and this fact caused him to get less business than he could have ordinarily obtained. Randolph was well read and up to date on all political affairs. While in office, he endeavored to carry out the duties to the best of his abilities, and his work was rarely criticized. A good example of his work and philosophy can be found in the Fredericksburg Resolutions of 1775, in which he laid down the principles …

Sara Teasdale: Her Life And Work, Virginia Mcknight
English Language and Literature ETDs
This study of Sara Teasdale was made not only in an attempt to learn more about her as a woman and as a poet but try to relate the two, to explain why she wrote the type of poetry which she did, why some of her poems express such a joyous love of life and others such as disillusionment. The latter expression is more understandable when the facts of her life are known. The studies of her imagery and stanzaic forms aid in forming an opinion of her ability as a poet and also tend to characterize her as a …

A Chronological Analysis And Interpretation Of The Plays Of Eugene Gladstone O'Neill, Violet Carey D'Urban-Coles
Master's Theses
In this thesis I have endeavored to give a chronological estimate and interpretation of Eugene O’Neill’s plays as well as nearly in the order of their writing as possible. I have incorporated in this article only those of O’Neill’s plays which I have read and studied thoroughly, giving first a brief summary and then a criticism of each. These include all except eight of O’Neill’s printed plays. Five of the eight are Thirst, The Web, Warnings, Fog, and Recklessness, which were printed in 1914 under the title of Thirst and Other One-Act Plays by Eugene C. O’Neill. However, O’Neill has …
