Validating Bloom's Revised Taxonomy As A Rubric For Assessing Middle School Students' Levels Of Thinking, Siri Torrence Deforest Reynolds
Validating Bloom's Revised Taxonomy As A Rubric For Assessing Middle School Students' Levels Of Thinking, Siri Torrence Deforest Reynolds
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Educators in a rural charter middle school in the United States were challenged with the reliable assessment of student thinking skills even though the development of higher order thinking was an espoused goal for the school. The purpose of this study was to validate a new rubric based on Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy (BRT) to reliably assess student levels of thinking as reflected in the students’ written work. A quantitative, nonexperimental design was used. The focus of the research questions was on the BRT rubric’s reliability and validity. Interrater reliability was assessed using Krippendorff’s alpha. Validity was explored by assessing the …
Fear Of Falling Assessment And Interventions In Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Mixed Methods Case Study, Amanda S. Cappleman
Fear Of Falling Assessment And Interventions In Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Mixed Methods Case Study, Amanda S. Cappleman
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Background: Fear of falling has significant adverse physical and psychological effects for the community-dwelling older adult. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess fear of falling in community-dwelling older adults and explore participant perceptions of fear of falling assessments and interventions. Methods: A mixed methods case study was utilized to gain an in-depth understanding of older adults' perceptions. It consisted of quantitative data collection by objective measures and qualitative data collection by four individual in-depth interviews. A sample of four community-dwelling adults aged 65 years and older and living in Orlando, Florida, completed the study in their home …
Undergraduate Students' Attitudes About The Collection, Use, And Privacy Of Search Data In Academic Libraries, Laura W. Gariepy
Undergraduate Students' Attitudes About The Collection, Use, And Privacy Of Search Data In Academic Libraries, Laura W. Gariepy
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to understand undergraduate students’ attitudes about search data privacy in academic libraries and their preferences for how librarians should handle information about what students search for, borrow, and download. This is an important area of study due to the increasingly data-driven nature of evaluation, accountability, and improvement in higher education, along with libraries’ professional commitment to privacy, which has historically limited the amount of data collected about student use. Using a qualitative approach through the lens of interpretive description, I used the constant comparative method of data collection and analysis to conduct semi-structured interviews …
Childhood And Trauma: The Effects Of Adverse Childhood Experiences On The Brain, Behavior, And Learning In The Elementary School Classroom, Aeryn Aguilar
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
A variety of studies have been conducted on how trauma, caused by emotional, physical, or verbal abuse, impact children’s lives. Many of the studies which involved observations and assessments were done with the preexisting knowledge that these children had been through a traumatic experience. Instead of looking at behavior of known cases, this study’s goal is to find out whether or not children’s observable behaviors can predict cases of trauma. For example, is acting out or defiance a key sign of trauma or is it part of the typical development for the elementary school-age group? This thesis takes into account …
Assessing The Sustainability Of Collaborations Between Local Health Departments And Nonprofit Hospitals For Population Health, Christopher Mierow Maylahn
Assessing The Sustainability Of Collaborations Between Local Health Departments And Nonprofit Hospitals For Population Health, Christopher Mierow Maylahn
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
In 2008, New York’s health commissioner asked LHDs and nonprofit hospitals to collaborate with community partners to conduct community health needs assessments, identify two or three health priorities to focus on, and implement evidence-based strategies to address them. The actions taken as part of the New York State Prevention Agenda mirrored the IRS rules and PHAB recommendations that followed. The dearth of published studies on public health-hospital collaborations and the momentum to understand how communities in New York have responded to the IRS rules and PHAB standards are the impetus for this research.
Special Education Teachers' Perceptions Of Professional Development Around Assessment, Mary Sue Durr
Special Education Teachers' Perceptions Of Professional Development Around Assessment, Mary Sue Durr
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The significance of professional development (PD) is acknowledged in research studies as essential to implementing rigorous state standards. Although the literature recognizes that PD is a crucial component in improving teachers' knowledge and skills, some teachers at a midsized urban public elementary school in the southern United States did not see the benefit of attending PD. The purpose of this study was to explore elementary special education teachers' perceptions of PD around assessment. Guided by a framework based on Chen and McCray's whole teacher approach to teacher PD, this basic qualitative study was designed to understand how these elementary special …
Assessing Cultural And Linguistic Competencies In Doctoral Clinical Psychology Students, Gloria Lainez
Assessing Cultural And Linguistic Competencies In Doctoral Clinical Psychology Students, Gloria Lainez
Theses and Dissertations
With an increase of Spanish-speakers residing in the United States, there is an increase in the need for Spanish-speaking mental health providers. Psychologists have to undergo years of education and extensive training in order to get licensed to provide services. However, little is known about the education and training of psychologists who are bilingual Spanish-English speakers providing mental health services to monolingual Spanish-speaking clients. This qualitative study gathered feedback via phone interviews from seven doctoral level psychology students who identified as bilingual Spanish-English. Feedback gathered was on the Spanish Language Assessment measure created by Dr. Rogelio Serrano in the hope …
Integrated Assessment Of Assembly Fixtures Re-Configurability, Diana Naser
Integrated Assessment Of Assembly Fixtures Re-Configurability, Diana Naser
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The needs of consumers are changing over time. As a result, the manufacturers are looking for new methods to adapt effectively and efficiently to market changes. These involve supplying customers with a variety of products in a reasonable time with decreasing the cost. Reconfigurable fixtures are an important means for dealing with increased product variety and shorter life cycles, as they help change between the product variants effectively and decrease the time and resources required to introduce new product variants. In this thesis, an integrated method to assess the reconfigurability of assembly fixtures is developed. This assessment is based on …

The Problem
As the world has flattened, the globalization and quality education movement surrounding higher education worldwide has led to the accountability of all stakeholders regarding student success in and beyond the classroom. Student mobility continues to impact tertiary enrollments as families and students consider the proliferated traditional and non-traditional enrollment alternatives along with prospective lower tertiary debt options. Although assessment, an accountability tool, in co-curricular areas such as advising has been overlooked by leaders, advising is not impervious to accountability consequences. The problem is that assessment of advising, if performed, is oftentimes implemented informally, without a well-defined framework or …

The Assessment And Evaluation Process In Third Grade, Cassandra Amato
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
For my honors research project, I will be focusing on the process of Early Childhood Education assessment and evaluation. To so, I will conduct a series of literacy-based assessments to 3rdgrade students at Woodridge Elementary School. In a group of three to four students, I will assess various literacy skills such as fluency, comprehension, word recognition, sight words, letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary, and affective surveys. I will present each student with the varying assessments, recording anecdotal notes as they complete the assessments. Will gather the data found in each assessment and use it to find each student’s instructional …
Executive Functions As Moderators Of Response To Behavioral Interventions For Adolescents With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Stephen J. Molitor
Executive Functions As Moderators Of Response To Behavioral Interventions For Adolescents With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Stephen J. Molitor
Theses and Dissertations
Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) experience significant academic impairment and multiple interventions have been developed to address common academic problems, such as difficulties with homework, organization, and planning skills. Given cost and resource constraints, research is needed on factors that mental health providers can use to select the most appropriate interventions. To date, there has been minimal research evaluating moderators of response to ADHD interventions. Further, many of the variables that have been studied do not have strong theoretical ties to the mechanisms of change invoked by the interventions. This study examined potential moderators of treatment response to two academic …
Beliefs About Safety Behaviours: An Examination Across Three Relevant Populations, Johanna Marie Meyer
Beliefs About Safety Behaviours: An Examination Across Three Relevant Populations, Johanna Marie Meyer
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 2017+
Background: Safety behaviours are traditionally defined as actions intended to prevent, minimize, or escape a feared outcome and associated distress (Telch & Lancaster, 2012). Despite their negative impacts on anxiety aetiology (Goodson, Haeffel, Raush, & Hershenberg, 2016), maintenance (Beesdo‐Baum et al., 2012), and treatment outcome (Helbig-Lang et al., 2014), safety behaviours are pervasive among anxious adults (Helbig‐Lang & Petermann, 2010), parents of anxious youth (Shimshoni, Shrinivasa, Cherian, & Lebowitz, 2019), and even therapists who treat anxious clients (Waller & Turner, 2016). Cognitive-behavioural models contend that beliefs influence behaviour (Abramowitz, Deacon, & Whiteside, 2019). Therefore, beliefs about safety behaviours may be …

Environmental Site Assessment And Hydrogeologic Impacts To Groundwater At St. Ignatius, Montana And Hanford, Washington, Ryan M. Carter
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
The following Environmental Studies Master’s Portfolio is a compilation of works completed individually and with peers in order to fulfill requirements for the Master of Science degree. These works demonstrate range, depth, and the interdisciplinary nature of the course of study. As an undergraduate student at Eastern Washington University, I studied Environmental Science with a concentration in hydrogeology. I was interested in learning about the natural world and wanted to develop a deeper connection to it. Inevitably, I was exposed to courses that examined the causes and effects of hazardous waste site remediation, and this topic became my passion. The …
Considering Trauma In Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Evaluations In Children: A Qualitative Inquiry, Kaitlyn Page Ahlers
Considering Trauma In Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Evaluations In Children: A Qualitative Inquiry, Kaitlyn Page Ahlers
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
The pervasiveness of trauma exposure and potential effects on children’s development and both proximal and future health outcomes are well established in the research literature. Importantly, there is increasing recognition that children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), might be at heightened risk for trauma exposure and trauma-related health outcomes. However, there is a paucity of research on trauma-informed practices with children with ASD, specifically the assessment methods used to evaluate for the presence of trauma exposure and trauma-related sequelae. While there are guidelines for the diagnostic assessment of ASD, there are no known established guidelines or research regarding …
