The Influence Of Workplace Stressors, Resources And Perceptions On Work-To-Family Spillover: An Application Of The Double Abcx Model, Steven A. Dennis May 1995

The Influence Of Workplace Stressors, Resources And Perceptions On Work-To-Family Spillover: An Application Of The Double Abcx Model, Steven A. Dennis

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Changes in the American workforce have raised concern over the interface between family and work. The responsibilities and frustrations of the work domain frequently spill over to the family domain and vice versa. The purpose of this research has been to investigate the influence of workplace stressors, resources, and perceptions on subsequent negative work-to-family spillover. The theoretical direction for the study stems from a modified application of McCubbin and Patterson's double ABCX model, which fits well into the larger spillover perspective.

The data for the study came from 1992 National Study of the Changing Workforce [NSCW). A subsample of respondents …

Stress Study In Faulted Tunnel Models By Combined Photoelastic Measurements And Finite Element Analysis, Yuping Huang Jan 1995

Stress Study In Faulted Tunnel Models By Combined Photoelastic Measurements And Finite Element Analysis, Yuping Huang

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

An investigation is performed to develop a proper technique for analyzing the stresses in and around three adjacent scaled tunnel models, along with the stress concentration factors resulting from the existence of a fault that penetrates two of the three tunnels, at an inclined angle; Photoelasticity and Finite Element method, are used in this investigation. The Photoelastic measurements are performed by using a plexiglass plane model. Concurrent simulations of the same plexiglass model are performed by the Finite Element analysis. The principal stress patterns are measured by both methods, and the stress concentration factors are calculated at predetermined points. Results …

Physiological Response Of Two Turfgrass Species To Increasing Drought And Salinity Stress Using A Line Source Gradient, Dorothy E Dean Jan 1995

Physiological Response Of Two Turfgrass Species To Increasing Drought And Salinity Stress Using A Line Source Gradient, Dorothy E Dean

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

A line source gradient study was initiated to investigate the feasibility of using the saline aquifer, existing beneath the Las Vegas valley, as an alternative irrigation source for turfgrass. Results indicated that the aquifer could be used as a supplemental irrigation source, without any diminished turfgrass quality, if total water potentials {dollar}\rm(\Psi\sb{T}){dollar} were maintained above species specific thresholds, where {dollar}\rm\Psi\sb{T}{dollar} is defined as the sum of the matric {dollar}\rm(\Psi\sb{M}){dollar} and osmotic {dollar}\rm(\Psi\sb{\Pi}){dollar} potentials. The soil water potential components {dollar}\rm(\Psi\sb{M},\Psi\sb{\Pi}){dollar} were found to additively affect yield, evapotranspiration, turf color, percent cover, and turf temperature. Leaf xylem water potential, stomatal conductance, and …

Stress Levels In Seminarians And Spouses Of Seminarians, Martha C. Lintvedt Jan 1995

Stress Levels In Seminarians And Spouses Of Seminarians, Martha C. Lintvedt

Theses

Clients frequently present for therapy reporting high levels of stress. While an overview of the literature indicates that clergy are particularly vulnerable to the impact of negative stress, little is written on the evidence of stress among those preparing for the ministry.

This study examines levels of stress in seminarians and spouses of seminarians. The Osipow and Spokane Stress Inventory (Osipow & Spokane , 1988) was utilized to determine stress levels, the degree to which occupational roles match an individual's training, and the coping resources among a sampling of 13 male students preparing for the ministry at Concordia Seminary. The …

The Impact Of Year-Round School On Stress In Elementary School Teachers, Henriette Ingeborg Baker Jan 1995

The Impact Of Year-Round School On Stress In Elementary School Teachers, Henriette Ingeborg Baker

Theses

In an effort to assess the impact of year-round school on teacher stress, a sample of 39 elementary school teachers from a year-round school was compared with a sample of 35 teachers from an elementary school in an adjacent district that is on a traditional schedule. A measure of teacher stress, the Teacher stress Inventory (TSI), was administered to the teachers after they had completed one-half of the school year. Analysis of the data revealed that there was no significant difference in stress levels between the year-round teachers and the teachers on the traditional schedule. Stress levels were in the …
