The Effectiveness Of Contacting Nonattending Adult Students As Measured By Return Attendance, Dropouts And Reenrollment, Ralph Leland Moody

Problem: To determine the relative effectiveness of four methods of contacting non-attending adult students with an invitation message to return to class. The four methods used to contact students were (1) personally, (2) by telephone, (3) by letter, (4) no contact (control).

Purpose: The major purpose of this study was to analyze (1) the proportion of classes students attended after being absent and then being contacted by a volunteer, {2) the dropout rate of students after being contacted by a volunteer, and (3) the reenrollment rate of students after being contacted by a volunteer.

THE PROBLEM: This study addressed the problem of what relationship exists between the racial mix of the elementary school, independent of social class mix, and the academic progress, interracial friendships, and attitudes toward school of educationally disadvantaged pupils. Also investigated was the problem of what relationship exists between the racial mix of the school, with social class mix controlled, and the parents' attitudes toward school.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to provide evidence of institutionalization of ITV in the public schools of American Samoa. According to Evans, attitudes of users of innovations, such as ITV, provide evidence of institutionalization. This study proposed, in congruence with Evans' theory, to survey the attitudes of public school teachers toward ITV in American Samoa.

PROBLEM: The flow of returning Iranian graduates from American educational institutions has focused attention upon the educational experiences of the graduates and the extent to which they are able to utilize their training for employment in Iran.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to select a sequence of steps as a model change process and then compare that sequence with the steps followed by the Berkeley Unified School District during the change process embodied in the development and first year's implementation of its Experimental Schools Project.

Deliminations: The study was limited to the Experimental Schools Project of the Berkeley Unified School District from December 28, 1970, through June 30, 1972. That project involved approximately one-third of the students and teaching staff of the district.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate the premise that if a reading program is based on individual interest, those individuals participating in the program will be motivated to read and will make greater gains in vocabulary skills, comprehension skills, and total reading skills than those taught by a non-individualized approach. The research undertaken fer this study utilized thirty-nine, Black, seventh grade students who were underachieving in reading. These subjects were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and two control groups.

The northern white men and women who organized the first schools for the American blacks in the South, during and after the Civil War, did so for a wide variety of reasons. They were often in sharp disagreement with one another over ends and means. Each took as his point of departure a particular view of the future of the Afro-American in American society, and shaped his educational ideology around that vision.
