Adolescence And Guidance, Mary Verna Downey Dec 1932

Adolescence And Guidance, Mary Verna Downey

Bachelors’ Theses

Adolescence is a period of great bodily and mental changes. It is the period when most young people must choose their life work. It is unfortunate that this is true, because it is a time of instability. However, this is the situation. Life offers many alluring prospects at this period of adolescence. Wise guidance is necessary to direct the young person to choose the occupation for which by interests and abilities, he is best fitted.

It is at this time that the school and other agencies of guidance have their opportunities of functioning.

A Survey In The High Schools Of Western Kansas On The Relation Of Training And Experience Of Teachers Of Commercial Subjects To The Achievement Of Pupils Enrolled In These Classes, Melvin Wilbur Torrey

Master's Theses

While assisting in the work of the commerce department of the Fort Hays Kansas State College, the writer frequently had called to his attention the degree of thoroughness, or lack of it, with which high school students are being prepared for college work. This degree of preparation presented itself frequently in the matter of preview tests given to beginning college students in commercial courses, the purpose of which was to discover the placement of these students in college classes. For instance, many classes in the commercial department of the college require for entrance on the part of the student, certain …

Molecular Organic Compounds Of Ortho And Para Aminobenzoic Acids, Weldon E. Cate Aug 1932

Molecular Organic Compounds Of Ortho And Para Aminobenzoic Acids, Weldon E. Cate

Masters Theses

The nature of the linkage between the components of molecular organic compounds is not clearly understood, although the existence of this type of compound has been known for many years. Since efforts to explain the structure of molecular compounds by the different theories of valence have met with only partial success, a series of investigations is being carried out in the Chemistry Laboratories of the University of Tennessee in an effort to formulate a theory by which the structure and properties of this interesting but perplexing type of compound may be explained.

The object of this investigation of the molecular …

The development of children will, in very larger measure, depend upon the character of their teachers. Therefore, it is exceedingly important that frequent inventories be taken of the teaching corps in order to …

The Catholic Spirit In Modern Poetry, Anna Lacaze Jul 1932

The Catholic Spirit In Modern Poetry, Anna Lacaze

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

  1. All art sas its underlying philosophy. Poetry which is one of the greatest printed branches of art, has its philosophies which vary greatly indeed. Some poets hold as their philosophy that the highest form of beauty is purely natural and they sing the praises of beauty of form, figure etc. Others hold that the highest form of beauty is intellectual and these praise and glorify the beauty of a well ordered mind. While others hold that man was made for God, and that God is the highest form of beauty. These attempt to portray the relationship of man to God, …

Newman The Master Of Prose Writer, Aline Pepin Jul 1932

Newman The Master Of Prose Writer, Aline Pepin

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

  1. In every period of history there are some characters which stand out very prominently for some great achievement, idea or movement. On some occasions one individual occupies this place of honor, as in the case of Napoleon after he saw gallantly quelled the revolt in the city of Toulon during the Revolutionary War. Literature, like history, has its heroes who, with their pen, influence the world. The 19th century produce the diversity of religious opinion and inquiry, colored by the delicacy of expression which is characteristic of the time. The Victorian age enjoyed the many “masters of expression" for it …

The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson Jul 1932

The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

One of the reasons why there is such a great lack of cooperation within the race is ignorance of race ability. Students in high-school and college often times have but a vague and obscure concept of the Negro race, educationally, industrially, economically, and when in time these students seek to make and adjustment they find themselves handicapped . For this reason in order that, that love of race, that race consciousness, that makes not only for loyal race brothers, but rather which makes for true loyal law abiding citizens of America, Negro History, should find a place in the curriculum …

Problem-Solving In Arithmetic, Eva M. Acker Jul 1932

Problem-Solving In Arithmetic, Eva M. Acker

Bachelors’ Theses

For a century arithmetic has been a popular subject in the elementary schools, and has consumed more time than any other subject. The war had an effect in reducing this time on arithmetic, largely due to the war-time emphasis on health, food production, back-of-the-line morale, and kindred subjects. More recently, school activities and playground work have come in for a reasonable share of the school time. The Twenty-ninth Yearbook recognizes the child as the center of interest, and the final criterion of all values being the effect any technique of teaching or any content of instruction has on the child. …

A Study Of The Psycho-Graphs Of Fifty-Five High School Students To Determine The Relationship Between Musical Talent And Various Degrees Of Intelligence, Marie H. Weatherly Jun 1932

A Study Of The Psycho-Graphs Of Fifty-Five High School Students To Determine The Relationship Between Musical Talent And Various Degrees Of Intelligence, Marie H. Weatherly

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

From time immemorial music has played an important part in the life of the race; but it has been incidental rather than purposive. This incidental process meant that only those persons who had extreme talent and the inner urge became musicians. Frequently, these persons were either highly intellectual or at the other extremity of mentality, so the belief arose that musical talent was associated with great intelligence and to be a successful musician one must have wide experience, a liberal education, broad purpose and high ideals; or that a musician was among the most un-intelligent of men, sometimes near the …

A Comparison In The Efficiency Of The Teaching Of Arithmetic In Grades Four To Eight, Inclusive, In The Standard And Non-Standard, One-Room Rural Schools Of Western Kansas, Roy Ernest Mohr

Master's Theses

Considerable discussion regarding the effectiveness of the teaching in the one-room rural school versus the standard school has been going on for some time, and it is hoped that the results of this study will throw some light on this subject which appears to be more or less perplexing at the present time. Education has become a science and its accomplishments can be quite definitely measured by the use of standardized tests. Before their time, the task of comparing schools in educational achievement was practically impossible; with age-grade and achievement norms scientifically determined, it became a simple matter to make …

My attention is centered mainly on the relative importance of each as such in the life of the organism.

The Prime Aim Of Teaching Latin Should Be For Its Cultural Value Rather Than The Correlative Or Disciplinary Values, Xavier University Of Louisiana

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

In choosing subjects of this nature there are certain causes or reasons which influence such a choice. In this case it is not my purpose to offer a defense for the study of Latin as an educational subject, nor is it my purpose to propose a special method of presenting Latin as to make it a more attractive part of the curriculum. I am influenced principally by the fact that among educators and Latin teachers themselves there is a widespread divergence of opinion as to what ought to be aims of teaching Latin.
