The Review Of Melbourne’S Principal Public Transport Network, Euan Ramsay Jan 2010

The Review Of Melbourne’S Principal Public Transport Network, Euan Ramsay

World Transit Research

The integrated transport and land use strategy, Melbourne 2030, defined a Principal Public Transport Network (PPTN) in 2002 intended to provide a high quality and direct public transport connection between the activity centres. The PPTN was recently revised by the Department of Transport in response to growth in Melbourne‟s population, introduction of new services to support that growth, and release of several strategies to supplement the original Melbourne 2030.
This paper summarises the process undertaken in reviewing the PPTN. It re-examines the original definition, emphasising connection to activity centres rather than between them, sets out a list of objectives of …

Designing A Public Train Station Shelter To Minimise Anti-Social Behaviour And Crime In Melbourne’S Metropolitan Rail Environment, Jessica Diec, Selby Coxon, Arthur De Bono Jan 2010

Designing A Public Train Station Shelter To Minimise Anti-Social Behaviour And Crime In Melbourne’S Metropolitan Rail Environment, Jessica Diec, Selby Coxon, Arthur De Bono

World Transit Research

The Melbourne metropolitan train network has experienced incidents of anti-social behaviour and crime across the network over recent years. Identification of this problem has lead to design research aimed at exploring ways to minimise anti-social behaviour, improve passenger security and the perceptions of Melbourne’s railway system.
A literature review has revealed that good sightlines and visibility, minimised obstructions, sufficient lighting solutions, and controlled access are the principal factors that contribute to a safe and successful station environment. The key findings, used as guidelines, are intended to inform a design process in developing a potential design solution that is novel and …
