Environmental Sustainability Strategy, Creativity, Innovation And Organizational Performance: The Role Of Green Human Resource Management, Jessica R. L Good, Parbudyal Singh, Souha Ezzedeen

American Business Review

This paper provides a theoretical explanation for the “black box” between “going green” and organizational performance and links individual-level behaviors with organizational-level outcomes. We argue that the adoption of an environmental sustainability strategy and high involvement green human resources management practices will have the intended impact of increasing employee green creativity and the unintended impact of increasing employee general creativity. As well, we suggest that employee green values moderate these relationships. Furthermore, the positive effects on employee creativity (green and general) are theorized to increase organizational innovation, which positively impacts organizational performance. This paper extends the research by providing a …

Innovativeness And Church Commitment: What Innovations Were Most Important During The Pandemic?, Anna Covarrubias, David R. Dunaetz, Wendi Dykes Mcgehee

Great Commission Research Journal

The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented need for innovations in churches around the world. Organizational innovativeness, a precursor of successful innovations in organizational contexts, is rarely studied in churches. This study of American church attenders (N = 244) found that perceived innovativeness of churches (conceived of as the elements of a church’s culture which promote innovation, specifically, creativity, organizational openness, future orientation, risk-taking, and proactiveness) was a very strong predictor of church commitment (conceived of as intentions to stay in the church, r = .60, p < .001). Of the moderators examined in this study (membership tenure, age of participant, church size, and gender), only gender moderated this relationship; the relationship between perceived innovativeness and church commitment was stronger for females than for males. This suggests that innovations that facilitated relationship development and relationship maintenance had the greatest impact on church commitment during the pandemic.

Transforming Business Education: 21st Century Sustainable Mba Programs, Robert Sroufe, Stuart L. Hart, Hunter Lovins

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

Business education should give students the skills to solve complex global challenges. It should align management practices with goals for a sustainable future. Sadly, few management schools even discuss the real issues business leaders face today. This article challenges others to develop a curriculum that embeds sustainability in the core of their programs. The authors argue that faculty and business school leadership should move beyond “saddlebag” initiatives that bolt sustainability onto the traditional, shareholder primacy-driven core. This article profiles three programs as case studies transforming business education to prepare leaders to achieve a more sustainable world. Business schools are torn …

Innovation, Entrepreneurship, And The Spirit Of Digital Capitalism, Collin Chua Dec 2018

Innovation, Entrepreneurship, And The Spirit Of Digital Capitalism, Collin Chua

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

In his article “Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and the Spirit of Digital Capitalism,”Collin Chua analyzes the myth of innovation and the fantasy of entrepreneurship. The article draws on foundational perspectives regarding the spirit of capitalism established by Max Weber, later extended by Luc Boltanski and Eve Chiapello. The myth of innovation is interrogated, as innovation now operates as a rhetorical and managerial strategy that must be pursued in order to be competitive in today’s capitalist system. The fantasy of entrepreneurship is explored, as it serves as a coping mechanism for the fragmentation and erosion of traditional work arrangements and structures. The article …

Theoretical Framework For The Study Of Intangible Investment Into Innovative Capital In Resource Limited Environment: A Case For Synchronous Innovations?, Jovan Trajkovski

Economic and Business Review

Innovation intensity in firms depends on resource availability, primarily financial and human resource constraints. The paper proposes a theoretical framework for investment into innovative capital in the case of limited resources. By relying on the fragmented literature on innovation under resource constraints, the model proposes a comprehensive theoretical framework, which answers 3 questions: (1) Which innovation types are more relevant in resource limited environment and why, (2) which resources do they need and why at which stage of the innovation process, (3) what processes companies should embrace in order to kick-off the innovation activity (where should they start from), to …

Empowering Internal Stakeholders Through The Dissemination Of Useful Information: A Review Of Crisis Management Concepts, Patricia I. Fusch, Janie A. Hall, Gene E. Fusch

Journal of Sustainable Social Change

In this article, we define crisis management as not only a problem, but also an opportunity for leaders to be flexible, creative, and innovative that contributes to social change. In the past, organizational leaders often looked at crisis management as a quick fix or stopgap to business as usual. Empowering internal stakeholders and disseminating useful information that is relevant, valid, timely, and reliable to people within the organization can lead to crisis resolution at the closest point of action and contribute to social change. We look at the primary and secondary stakeholders and stewardship of the employees during the …

Innovation With Information Technologies And Using Nostalgia As An Organizational Strategy, Mojdeh Pajoutan, Chad Seifried

Journal of Applied Sport Management

The purpose of this paper is to show how sport organizations can use innovation through information technology (IT) to support the pursuit of nostalgia by revenue-oriented sport organizations as an organizational strategy to improve or maintain their fan nation. Collectively, a five-stage flowchart is offered that demonstrates an innovation process using IT for nostalgia to improve the placement of sport organizations in competitive markets. The foundation for this work’s approach is based on expanding Damanpour and Schneider’s (2006) three stages of innovation process in organizations, which include 1) initiation, 2) adoption decision, and 3) implementation. Wolfe’s (1994) “process of innovation” …

The research reported here is extracted from a larger study aimed at describing the challenges and barriers to implementing the two way immersion (TWI) program at Stark Elementary School (a pseudonym). While Stark’s TWI program is used as the backdrop for the current discussion the perspective taken here is to examine the actions (and lack of action in some instances) of Stark’s administrators and describe how those actions impacted other stakeholders and led to challenges during the implementation process. The findings illuminate the need for leaders to gain support for proposed changes while maintaining dialogue with stakeholders and developing other …

Extension's Future: Time For Disruptive Innovation, Nancy K. Franz, Ronald A. Cox

The Journal of Extension

Extension has been considered change averse by some scholars and practitioners, and they claim this inhibits organizational growth and relevance. Pockets of individuals and teams across the nation have worked independently as entrepreneurs to enhance Extension's relevance by introducing organizational processes and programs that greatly differ from past practices. However, every Extension system, team, and worker has a role to play in the disruptive innovation process. This may include exploring, implementing, or evaluating disruptive organizational innovations, or removing barriers, resourcing, or supporting a culture of innovation to enhance relevance and sustainability.
