Censorship Of Family Violence In Cinema In Iran, Atefeh Batyari
Censorship Of Family Violence In Cinema In Iran, Atefeh Batyari
Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence
Prevention and control of family violence require an accurate understanding of its causes and effects. Iranian filmmakers try to fulfil their mission to raise awareness about family violence by showing hidden and unpleasant social issues in the family and presenting an accurate picture of family violence. However, to do so is taboo and goes against the Islamization policy of the Iranian regime against portraying family violence. Breaking the taboo leads to the seizure and censorship of films that show negative perspectives of family relationships. This article analyzes the Iranian regime’s approach to film productions based on Islamization policies and investigates …

Poverty Implications Of Covid-19 And Government Social Protection Programmes In Nigeria, Adeponle Adeoye, John Lola Okunola, Sunday Fakunle
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
The sole objective of this paper was to investigate the poverty implications of COVID-19 on Nigerians, relative to the effectiveness of the government’s social protection programs in mitigating the socioeconomic strain caused by the pandemic. The paper used documentary analysis to assess the impact of COVID-19 on Nigerians’ socioeconomic lives and the government’s policy response to the situation. The review found that COVID-19 exacerbated the existing poverty in Nigeria, and most of the government policy programs were not effective in mitigating the effects. We concluded that government policy responses to the socioeconomic strain caused by the pandemic were ineffective due …

Research in progress for GOVT 2306: Honors Texas Government
Faculty Mentor: Tiffany Cartwright, Ph.D.
Michelle Baker wrote the following research paper as an assignment for my online GOVT 2306: Honors Texas Government class during the Fall 2020 semester. The class assignment helps students begin to formulate a classic policy paper, in which alternative policy options are discussed and analyzed, ultimately leading to a preferred policy option. Students submitted just a few paragraphs of the paper at a time over the course of the fall semester before finally pulling everything together in one cohesive research paper. As Michelle’s …

Respuestas Iniciales Ante El Covid-19 Por Cuatro Gobiernos Centroamericanos, José Andrés Díaz-González
Gobernar: The Journal of Latin American Public Policy and Governance

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
The article deals with the religious contexts of the modern civilizational crisis caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Among the multitude of thematic lines of this set of problems, the article’s authors focus their attention precisely on the position of the world Orthodox Churches regarding this war. The concentration of such attention is objectively determined by the fact that the majority of Ukrainian citizens position themselves as Orthodox by faith, and therefore, are particularly sensitive to the opinion of the leaders of the Orthodox Churches of the world. The article examines the value aspects of the problem of …

The main aim of the study is to identify political public relations approaches that can be applied by the government and other bodies responsible for conducting elections in Nigeria to mitigate and eliminate vote buying. The study adopted a qualitative approach in the contextual analysis of data collected specifically from secondary sources. The results revealed that vote buying has become synonymous with elections in Nigeria. Moreover, where …

The Aged Care Crisis In Australia’S Covid-19 Success Story: A Commentary, Cymbeline Buhler, Nidhi Wali, Charles Ball, Supriya Gurung, Spyros Schismenos
Humboldt Journal of Social Relations
The world took a beating from COVID-19, with no nation spared. Australia’s response to the pandemic has been recognized as particularly successful, with the comparatively small total of COVID-19 related fatalities. However, these achievements in controlling the virus and keeping the economy buoyant are contrasted by significant failures, particularly the Federal and state governments’ inability to contain the outbreak within the aged care sector. This commentary forms an understanding of the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia’s aged care sector, drawing from articles published in the ‘The Australian’ newspaper. We focus on priorities, responses and management at different levels, observing subsequent impacts, …

Democracy And Bolivian Sovereignty In The Morales Era, Erin Leick
Graduate Review
In late 2019, Evo Morales was forced out of office as the President of Bolivia and charged with sedition and terrorism. Morales had spent more than two decades as an indigenous and cocalero activist, then served as President for nearly fourteen years. During this time, he and the Bolivian Movement Toward Socialism party, the MAS, oversaw a new constitution with the goals of supporting Bolivian sovereignty and democratic ideals. Morales’s version of democracy, though, is intertwined with sovereignty, and centered on increasing the rights of the indigenous peoples who brought him to notoriety. This paper seeks to determine the extent to …
Increasing Taxes Or Spending Cuts: What Is More Effective For Fiscal Consolidation?, Daniel Lacalle
Increasing Taxes Or Spending Cuts: What Is More Effective For Fiscal Consolidation?, Daniel Lacalle
Journal of New Finance
Since World War II, raising public spending has been one of the main policies to address recessions. A wealth of literature about austerity and fiscal consolidation has been published to analyze the different fiscal stabilization plans executed by several countries worldwide. This paper aims to demonstrate that fiscal plans based on spending cuts are more effective in achieving public finance equilibrium and boosting growth and employment. We focus the analysis on four examples: Germany, Ireland, Spain, and Chile, and reach three conclusions. First, countries where excessive deficit has been avoided register stronger economic stability and sustainability than countries with fiscal …

Boomers And Fraudsters: A Closer Look At The Financial Elder Abuse Cycle In America, Ryan E. Brown
Marriott Student Review
In 2011, a landmark study was published by the Metlife Mature Market Institute claiming that nearly $3 billion disappears from the wallets and bank accounts of senior citizens annually. More surprising is that a similar study reported that figure could be as high as $36 billion. Because so many seniors let incidents of fraud or financial deceit go unreported, there is a huge discrepancy in annual reporting. This contributes to the overall lack of understanding we have of elder financial abuse, or why seniors continue to lose to fraudsters and scam artists. In a brief overview of financial elder abuse …

Influencing Political Tolerance Among Populists In The Uk, Stephen Black, Kirk Hawkins
Journal of Undergraduate Research
In recent years, politics around the world have seen a drastic change in its elections. Not too long ago, Mexican leftist populist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador swept the elections in July 2018. It did not come as a surprise as several other countries, especially in Europe, have seen a wave of populism emerging with the election of centrist French President Emmanuel Macron and the reelection of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In this context, populists are generally those who view the world with an “us-versus-them” mentality and who see some sort of conspiring elite (often the government) who disregard the …

A Statistical Analysis Of Economic Perceptions In The 2015 United Kingdom General Election, Amarvir Singh-Bal Mr.
Undergraduate Economic Review
This paper characterises the vote which took place in the United Kingdom's (U.K.) 2015 General Election as an ‘accountability instrument.’ In doing so, the research interrogates which sections of the electorate hold the incumbent government more accountable for economic outcomes between the 2010 and 2015 U.K. General Elections. The Rational Choice Theory and the Michigan Model are used in this study to present two interlinked, and yet distinct, hypotheses – that less politically informed and non-partisan voters are more likely to hold the government accountable for economic performances; compared to the politically informed and partisan voters within the electorate. Implementing …

Environmental Racism: Nuclear Waste As An Agent Of Oppression?, Andrea Boeckers
Across the Bridge: The Merrimack Undergraduate Research Journal
This research seeks to analyze the decision-making processes of managing nuclear waste for countries dealing with this problem, as well as the interplay between national and local governments, private companies, the populace, and native nations. The long-term storage of nuclear waste is a serious global problem, and despite the millions of people enjoying the benefits of nuclear power, most refuse to accept the burdens associated with its waste. The driving question for this research largely ties to how governments attempt to designate who will bear the burden of these wastes. When a problem needs to be solved, yet there are …

This essay examines the American Founders’ convictions about government as expressed through key documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, and the Constitution. The goal of this paper is to answer two fundamental questions on behalf of the architects of the American state: Who should rule and what is the main purpose of government? In answering these questions, this analysis also probes into the unique amalgam of both ancient and contemporary political theory that influenced the decisions and opinions of the Founders. Ultimately, this essay highlights their support of a limited republican government run by the …
