Navigating Multiracial Identity Development In The Digital Ages: An Intersectional Exploration, Diana Mccullough
National Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference for Research, Action, and Change
In the 2020 U.S. Census, 33.8 million individuals reported multiracial identities, which increased since 2010 from nine million (US Census, 2020). Despite the substantial growth in multiracial individuals, there remains a dearth of understanding regarding the unique challenges and determining factors shaping their identity. This session aims to equip counselors and counselor educators with evidence-based strategies to navigate and support the intricate identity development of multiracial clients and students.

International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking
Abstract
Three studies (Study 1, N = 322 male adolescents, Study 2, N = 401 male and female adolescents, and Study 3, longitudinal, N = 56 male and female adolescents) analyzed the effects cognitive and psychographic variables in the relationships among illusion of control (IC), problem gambling and problem gaming. Moderated mediation analyses results using PROCESS macro in the three studies confirmed: (1) the positive mediating effect of upward CFT in the association between IC and problem gambling and problem gaming; (2) the negative mediating effect of downward CFT in the association between IC and problem gambling and problem gaming; …

HELIN Library Consortium Annual Conference
A brief demonstration of the process I came up with to use OCLC WMS to do an overlap analysis of online journal titles that we subscribe to directly through EBSCO, i.e. our paid subscriptions, and the access we have to those titles through our databases, in order to identify subscribed titles that we could potentially cancel. This is timely since the EBSCO renewal process starts in early June.
The Impact Of Ableism On Disability Discrimination In Employment, Emily Crispino
The Impact Of Ableism On Disability Discrimination In Employment, Emily Crispino
Academic Festival
Ableism is defined simply as discrimination in favor of able-bodied people. Whether it is a conscious or unconscious bias, many able-bodied people tend to believe that people with disabilities are less capable than themselves. Employment is an area in which implicit biases are often used when considering people with disabilities for job positions. In many cases, people with disabilities are denied employment opportunities due to assumptions that they will be less capable than able-bodied candidates. However, each individual with a disability has a unique set of traits and skills. Some individuals have physical disabilities while others have learning or cognitive …

The quandary of how to deliver quality instruction in the midst of a virulent and unabated pandemic for which there are no medications or vaccination is the greatest educational dilemma of our age. Using modified interpretive policy analysis (IPA), the paper reports the results of a study that examined the challenges, responsiveness, and efficacy of policies initiated during the early outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in three sectors of the education community: (1) Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), (2) public schools offering services to disabled students, and (3) research universities in four geographic locations. Specific attention is given to …

Faith-Based Intervention: Bridging the Religiosity Gap
Religion and Spirituality (RS) has been suggested to play a positive role in the recovery process for severe mental illness. Although there is still a lot of controversy with the relationship of RS in the mental health field, previous research shows that RS promotes a healthier lifestyle, fosters a personal sense of community, and provides unique coping mechanisms for those who are in the recovery process. These findings further suggest that the need for faith-based intervention into recovery has become crucial for patients who have an intrinsic belief system. However, because there …

Employer Perceptions Of Addiction Recovery And Hiring Decisions, Haley Henderson, Valerie Hoots, Joseph Barnet, Andrea Clements
River Cities Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference
Abstract Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a widespread, and ever-growing problem in American society today. Individuals who undergo treatment for their addiction often find it difficult to gain employment due to employers' negative perceptions of addiction. Previous research has found that many employers have a stigma of those in addiction recovery. However, little research has been done to determine if these stigmas affect hiring decisions. Drug and alcohol misuse are prominent in the Appalachian area, which presents an issue for employers in the area who maintain a drug-free work place or who have a stigma of those in addiction …

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a set of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by deficits in social interactions and interpersonal communication, repetitive behaviors, and narrow focus or interests. The severity of ASD is variable, but the symptoms span the entire lifespan of the individuals with ASD and few effective treatments for these symptoms have been identified. Each year in the United States, there are approximately 50,000 people with ASD who turn 18 years old in the United States (Shattuck et al., 2012). Where most 18 year olds are likely to go out and get a job, the employment prospect of individuals with …

5-Point Scales: Five Points Away From Beating Behavior Problems, Michelle Bolling
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
Five-point scales have been used in treating pain, anger, anxiety and educationally for children on the Autism Spectrum. Because 5-point scales are visual and match abstract ideas with numbers, they are well-suited for use with children of all ages. They can easily be implemented in a variety of settings, including by parents at home. Participants will learn how to develop, use, and monitor 5-point scale interventions; see different case studies applications; and explore applications within an RTI/MTSS framework. Case studies for individual and class-wide intervention from grades PK – 12 will be shared.
