Journalist-author Ella Costillo Bennett was born in Memphis in 1865 to Irish-born parents, Michael Charles and Ellen Doyle Bennett. In the summer of 1874, her father's income dramatically declined, changing the family's lifestyle greatly. Ella attended the Memphis public schools, where she excelled academically. She left Memphis for a time to travel via train with her mother, sister Mary L., and future brother-in-law George Nichols to Louisville, Kentucky and on north to Chicago, which was just recovering …

Today, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911) is best known for a handful of her novels: The Gates Ajar (1868), The Silent Partner (1871), and The Story of Avis (1877). During her life, however, the short story was a hugely popular genre in which she was fully invested and where she made a good deal of her living. Stories were her earliest and latest publications, and they were work that she both enjoyed and employed to greater ends. Since the start of the global pandemic, stay-at-home orders forced IPV survivors to stay in the home with abusers, increasing the risk of abuse, and the impact of psychological trauma. (Bright et al., 2020). Occupational therapists are trained professionals in incorporating sensory-based strategies to focus on the somatic manifestations experienced by the body from trauma and can help to regulate physiological and psychological responses through sensory stimuli (Mcgreevy & Boland et al., 2020).
