HIV testing rates are much lower among African American male college students than male college students of other racial groups. Routine HIV testing on college campuses can decrease HIV rates among African Americans and increase students' awareness of their HIV status. There is an urgent need to stop the HIV epidemic among African American gay and bisexual men in the United States. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to identify the health issues responsible for the HIV epidemic among African gay and bisexual men. Mental health professionals (MHPs) are at considerable risk for stress and burnout because of the nature of their work. Management and prevention of stress and burnout (e.g., through restorative yoga) may enable MHPs to avoid feelings of anxiety, depression, and apathy; lack of energy; and the development of unhealthy coping skills, such as substance and drug use. The purpose of this project was to create a staff education to assist MHPs in managing stress and burnout through yoga practice and mindfulness. Patient falls are a significant healthcare concern, with the highest risk being among older adults aged 65 and older. A lack of nursing knowledge can contribute to patient falls. This DNP project was conducted in the medical-surgical trauma unit of a 137-bed local rehabilitation center in Northern Georgia. The intention of the project was to understand if a nursing staff education program would increase knowledge regarding falls prevention. Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening complication. Approximately 900,000 people in the United States are affected by VTE with a mortality of 300,000 cases per year. Although potentially preventable, VTE remains the leading cause of hospital deaths in the U.S. The practice problem addressed in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was evidence of an increased incident of VTE events on a trauma surgical unit. Bullying has become a focus in American society over the past several decades due to publicized bullying cases and the impact bullying has on victims. Researchers have conducted studies to determine the definitions, causes, and results of bullying. This phenomenological qualitative study examined the experiences of elementary school counselors (Pre-Kâ5th grade) who have implemented antibullying programs. Inpatient falls are a leading cause of fatal and serious injuries among hospitalized elderly patients, often with devastating consequences. This quality improvement project was conducted on a geriatric unit in a large southeastern U. S. hospital, following recognition of an increase in the number of falls with several sustained injuries. Child maltreatment is a public health problem directly linked to poor outcomes across the lifespan, including chronic health conditions and even death. The local population served by the agency in which the project took place experienced an increase in reports of child maltreatment. Agency leadership identified deficiencies in parental knowledge about positive parenting practices as a contributing factor to the problem. This project evaluated the outcomes of a fall reduction program implemented in an assisted living facility (ALF). Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) significantly increases patient morbidity and mortality, length of stay, and organizational cost. In the 2 years prior to project implementation, the incidence of CAUTI increased by 15% in the local acute care, inpatient facility that served as the project site. Nursing leaders at the project site linked the increase in CAUTIs to a nursing knowledge deficit related to CAUTI prevention principles.
