Feasibility And Safety Of Daycare Pediatric Ureteroscopy In Low Volume Centers: Hints To Be Considered During Coronavirus Disease-2019 Pandemic, Ahmad Jaradat, Faris Abushamma

Palestinian Medical and Pharmaceutical Journal

Several guidelines and algorithms have been established since the declaration of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to organize work across surgical departments and face the enormous demands on health care facilities without affecting patient's health and safety. Pediatric ureteric calculi is an uncommon condition that may be encountered and requires appropriate triage and management. However, pediatric urologists are not available in all centers, mandating adult urologists to deal with such cases despite the small volume, especially during COVID-19, where patients transfer is restricted. We have reviewed pediatric ureteroscopy outcomes at our tertiary center as adult urologists did all cases. We …

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, then spread to become a worldwide pandemic with significant morbidity and mortality. This has left healthcare systems worldwide vulnerable to the surge in the number of patients. With the exponential spread of the disease and increasing demand for medical care, a signifi-cant proportion of medical procedures were canceled or delayed to decrease viral transmis-sion. Most inflammatory bowel disease patients are on immunosuppressive agents, which are presumed to put them at a higher risk for acquiring the infection. However, some studies have shown that immunosuppressive agents did not increase …

Hypoxia is defined as a hypobaric stress condition due to the atmospheric pressure in body cells and tissues. Hypoxia induces the formation of free radicals and causes damage to the cell. This study aimed to investigate the antiproliferative effects of hypobaric stress conditions and determine whether hypoxia could induce apoptosis in C-4 I cervical cancer cells. Human cervical carcinoma C-4 I cell line was used in this study. Cells have passaged twice a week and hypoxic conditions were performed in a specially prepared hypobaric cabinet with a rate of 98% N2 and 2% O2. Fractional hypobaric hypoxia conditions were applied …

Propranolol is a synthetic Œ≤-adrenergic receptor-blocking drug. After oral administration, propranolol has complete and rapid gastrointestinal absorption. The bioavailability of pro-pranolol is approximately 25%. Propranolol may be a substrate for a distributed P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which might lead to the efflux the drug back to the lumen of the intes-tine. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of Diltiazem as P-gp inhibitor at different concentrations on intestinal absorption of Propranolol, namely on absorption rate constant (Ka). Single Pass Intestinal Perfusion (SPIP) technique in rats was conducted on three groups of Wistar albino rats (n=6 per group). The first …
