"If We Run Out Of Water, What Then?" Individual And Shared Agricultural Perspectives On Water Futures In The Middle Rio Grande River Basin, Rebeka Isaac
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This study examines the construction and reproduction of rhetoric concerning water futures amongst the agricultural community of the Middle Rio Grande River Basin. It discusses the reification of potential alternative futures as envisioned through interviews with regional agricultural producers. These interviews center on facilitating the connection between their current decisions and practices as they align with their vision of the future. Also, the interviews will serve to provide the descriptive material needed to construct foresight narratives. Analysis of the foresight narratives collected will be dependent on how farmers perceive uncertain water futures as it affects the building elements of the …
Implementation Of Hma Design Tool To Develop Balanced Mix Design Based On Gradation Parameters, Prathmesh Deepak Jichkar
Implementation Of Hma Design Tool To Develop Balanced Mix Design Based On Gradation Parameters, Prathmesh Deepak Jichkar
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
With the rapid paradigm shift of pavement design methodology from an empirical-based approach toward a more mechanistic-based approach, the existing mix design processes also need a radical shift from the conventional volumetric-based methods to performance-based methods. The use of a volumetric-based design methodology has become more challenging due to the increasing use of recycled materials, modified binders, warm mix asphalt additives, compaction aids, and rejuvenators. A shift toward the more fundamentally sound â??balanced mix designâ?? (BMD) concept is envisaged to produce asphalt concrete mixtures with acceptable performance in terms of durability and stability. Aggregate gradation plays a crucial role in …
To Intervene Or Not To Intervene: A Qualitative Study On Combating Sexual Violence Through Bystander Intervention In The U.S.-Mexico Border Region, Jovita Simon
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Sexual violence is a public health problem affecting high rates of college students (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2014). Per the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), "one in five women and one in 16 men" are survivors of sexual assaults while attending college (National Sexual Violence Resource Center [NSVRC], 2015, p. 2). Unfortunately, over 90% of sexual violence incidents are not reported to university officials (NSVRC, 2015). Sexual violence is pervasive; as such, higher education administrators have established educational programs to prevent incidents from occurring on campus. The purpose of this qualitative study aimed at understanding how …
Pyronaridine, A Good Candidate For A Repurposed Anticancer Drug, Paulina Villanueva
Pyronaridine, A Good Candidate For A Repurposed Anticancer Drug, Paulina Villanueva
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The antimalarial drug pyronaridine (PND) was tested for its potential as an anticancer drug. After exposing cancerous (17) and non-cancerous (2) cell lines to PND, PND was found to exhibit consistent and potent cytotoxic activity at low micromolar (μM) concentrations. PND elicited phosphatidylserine externalization, mitochondrial depolarization, and DNA fragmentation in both the triple-negative MDA-MB-231 breast cancer and HL-60 leukemia cell lines. In addition, PND treatment altered cell cycle progression in both cancer cells. Subsequent DNA mobility-shift assays, UV-Visible spectroscopic titrations, and circular dichroism (CD) experiments revealed that PND intercalates with DNA. Furthermore, transcriptome signatures findings suggested that PND might act …
Elara's Wave, Sarah Huizar
Elara's Wave, Sarah Huizar
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
A cautionary story rooted in themes of autonomy and identity, Elara's journey begins when she joins the MM (Martian Marines) to follow in her late father's footsteps. Along the way, she learns he essentially pioneered an on-going femicide mission on Mars by kidnapping vulnerable women and replacing their reproductive organs with alien wombs. The MM's aim is to weaponize these women to form a militarized coalition after they transform into strong alien creatures. When Elara investigates the MM's goings on, she is kidnapped, too. However, the alien womb she is implanted with provides her with adverse effects, giving her the …
