One of the most common questions we encounter is, “How are others staffing their IR initiatives?” Kim Myers, Digital Repository Specialist at The College at Brockport and a 2014 bepress IR All-Star, has come up with some creative solutions that not only help address lean staffing situations but also develop invaluable feelings of investment and ownership among a broad base of stakeholders both inside and outside the library. The Next Engine 3D Scanner would enhance and promote the use of the Makerbot Replicator 3D Printer that has recently been purchased for use by students and faculty who wish to explore this innovative technology and incorporate it into the curriculum. The scanner increases the 3D printer’s usefulness by allowing existing objects to be scanned and printed, rather than just designed from scratch. The MultiDrive Scanning Platform further automates and increases ease of use of the process. The upgraded software increases the speed and ease of the scanning process. Institutional repositories can play a key role in a college or university’s mission to serve the greater community. At the College at Brockport (SUNY), Kim Myers views the repository as an ideal venue for supporting and sharing regional, community-oriented scholarship. SUNY Brockport has long been a center for Great Lakes research, but for years this valuable research was housed primarily on one professor’s computer. Working with Professor Joseph Makarewicz, Kim has created an IR collection to archive and disseminate these research articles, government documents, community newsletters, and technical reports.

This report highlights the major accomplishments of Digital Commons @Brockport during its first year in operation. With tremendous support campus wide, we added 1657 items and had 109,577 downloads, surpassing the bepress benchmarks for first year repositories of 731 items and 21,700 downloads by 226% and 522%. Using Digital Commons’ reports and anecdotal evidence we will show how Digital Commons has impacted both the Brockport community, and the world at large. We will also recognize the contributions of Drake Memorial Library staff, and share our plans for the upcoming year.
