¿Cómo Se Dice...? The Spanish Use Of Hispanic College Students, Christopher Castaneda May 2023

¿Cómo Se Dice...? The Spanish Use Of Hispanic College Students, Christopher Castaneda

Honors Theses

The Spanish language is very prominent in the United States. Millions of Spanishspeakers live there, and the use of the language in their day to day lives has augmented the presence of it in an otherwise Anglophone country. However, there are certain factors that may influence how often Spanish speakers actually use their language in this country. This study sought to analyze two: the existing anti-Hispanic attitudes in the United States and the parental/caretaker level of education of Spanish-speaking people. This study aimed to conduct an analysis of college-aged Hispanic students in order to conclude the extent to which those …

Crisis And Catalonia: An Analysis On The Impact Of Crisis On The Public Opinion Of The Secessionist Movement In Catalonia, Rachel Ducker

Catalonia, the autonomous region of Spain has seen an increase in secessionist sentiments in recent years. While the past inclination toward independence has been centered on economic autonomy and cultural identity, there has been a recent emphasis on political independence, particularly in the times of crisis. In this thesis. I analyze the relationship between the economic changes during the period of a crisis and the public opinion about the potential Catalan secession. El Mar Y La Gente: Hacia Una Contextualización De Lo Indígena En El Botón De Nácar, Jonathan Braden Taylor

Honors Theses

No Sólo Una Fase: Las Narrativas Queer En El Cine Argentino Contemporáneo, Samuel Fogarty Jun 2020

No Sólo Una Fase: Las Narrativas Queer En El Cine Argentino Contemporáneo, Samuel Fogarty

Honors Theses

This project explores the telling of queer narratives in contemporary Argentine cinema through the psychological theoretical approach of memory and consciousness, as well as a queer theoretical approach. The extant queer cinema is often Westernized and white-focused, whereas Argentine cinema provides a more realistic representation of queer narratives, incorporating themes of race, class, and culture. Thus, I propose that current Argentine cinema reveals a queer narrative that is nuanced, emotional, and deeply personal, ultimately challenging both LGBTQ, mainstream cinema (too often filmed through a heteronormative canon), and the public’s perspective on lived queer experiences.

Propaganda Y Progreso: El Rol Paradójico De La Magia En La España Premoderna, Alexander K. Rhodes Jan 2020

Propaganda Y Progreso: El Rol Paradójico De La Magia En La España Premoderna, Alexander K. Rhodes

Honors Theses

In 1513 Juan Ponce de León led an expedition force to explore the western coastline of Florida as part of a mission for the Spanish Crown to map the Gulf of Mexico and determine the capability of the area to potentially support Spanish colonization attempts. Lexical Development In Adult Beginning Second Language Learners, Angela Chouinard
