"My goal in this article is to build on Priya Kandaswamy’s discussion of students’ response to difference in Radical Teacher #80 by unfolding the pitfalls of teaching and responding to “non-Western” literature in the United States as embodied in my own experience teaching non-Western literature to a group of racially and ethnically diverse, mainly working-class students at a large urban comprehensive public university."

This essay interrogates the concept of “clarity” that has become an imperative of effective student writing. I show that clarity is neither axiomatic nor transparent, and that the clear/unclear binary that informs the identification of clarity as a goal of effective student writing is itself unstable precisely because of the ideological baggage that undergirds its construction. I make this argument by finding the traces of composition’s insistence on student writers’ clarity in the attacks on the writing of critical theorists.

Ambivalent Posthumanism: A Few Of Stevens’ Animals, Brian Glaser

This essay focuses on several categories of Wallace Stevens' use of animals in his poetry that is arguably posthumanist. It argues on the emotional ambivalence made by "Mountains Covered with Cats" which points out that animals are also living entities to experience and know with a mixture of positive and negative emotions. It cites Sigmund Freud's concept of ambivalence where he transcribe and reflect on the most well-known dream of a predatory animal in the modernist milieu.

Negotiating Cultural Identities Through Language: Academic English In Jordan, Anne-Marie Pedersen

This article discusses how a group of multilingual scholars in Jordan negotiate multiple linguistic and cultural affiliations. These writers' experiences demonstrate the varied ways English's global dominance affects individuals' lives. The scholars find both empowerment and disempowerment in English, viewing English as linked to Western hegemony in some situations and as de-nationalized and de-territorialized in others.
