Recall And Recognition Memory Under Varying Conditions Of Hypnotically Suggested Amnesia, Christopher R. Meagher Jan 1980

Recall And Recognition Memory Under Varying Conditions Of Hypnotically Suggested Amnesia, Christopher R. Meagher

Dissertations and Theses

Posthypnotic amnesia has been systematically investigated in the past and subsequently alluded to as either role enacted behavior or evidence for an altered state of consciousness. Recall and recognition have been tested during posthypnotic amnesia and as in normal memory functioning, recognition performance has been found to be usually superior to recall performance. In order to gain further understanding of the circumstances which facilitate amnesic behavior, an experiment was carried out which was designed to vary the usual manner in which recall and recognition memory are observed during posthypnotic amnesia.

Selective Reflection Of Light At A Solid-Gas Interface And Its Application, Fumihide Takeda Jan 1980

Selective Reflection Of Light At A Solid-Gas Interface And Its Application, Fumihide Takeda

Dissertations and Theses

In order to study the detailed spectral intensity distribution of light reflected from a solid-gas interface, the extinction theorem in optics is extended to include an absorbing medium and the thermal motion of the gas molecules near the interface. The theoretical spectral intensity distribution in the region of anomalous dispersion is found to be strongly modified compared to that predicted by existing theory. An important consequence of this theory in the line shapes of the reflected light is the possibility of using recently developed saturation spectroscopic techniques to study atoms and molecules near surfaces. In order to investigate the feasibility …

Morphological And Cytological Studies On Arceuthobium (Viscaceae) In Relationship To Host Phloem With Studies On The Healthy Phloem In Pinus Sabiniana (Pinaceae), Margaret Carol Alosi Jan 1980

Morphological And Cytological Studies On Arceuthobium (Viscaceae) In Relationship To Host Phloem With Studies On The Healthy Phloem In Pinus Sabiniana (Pinaceae), Margaret Carol Alosi

Dissertations and Theses

Anatomical and developmental tissue relationships between Arceuthobium spp. endophytic tissues and host vascular tissues were examined by light and transmission electron microscopes. The host-parasite pairs studied were Psudotsuga menziesii/A. douglasii, Tsuga heterophylla/A. tsugense, Pinus sabiniana/A. occidentale, and P. lambertiana/A. californicum. The morphological form and growth characteristics of A. douglasii in different aged host tissues was found to be coordinated with growth and maturation of the host. It is proposed that morphological forms of Arceuthobium endophytic tissue be categorized as (1) primary, (2) diffuse-secondary, or (3) localized-secondary in order to semantically clarify the relationship of endophytic morphology with primary or secondary …

An Impact Evaluation Of Home Improvement Loans On Neighborhood Decline: The Case Of Portland, Oregon, Geri Larkin Jan 1980

An Impact Evaluation Of Home Improvement Loans On Neighborhood Decline: The Case Of Portland, Oregon, Geri Larkin

Dissertations and Theses

Recently federal policy aimed at halting decline in urban neighborhoods has included a major focus on housing rehabilitation efforts. In the case of Portland, Oregon, federally funded improvement loans for owner-occupied housing units resulted in the rehabilitation of almost four thousand homes from 1975 until 1978, over twice the number of homes rehabilitated in any other city in the nation. The purpose of the present study was to examine and analyze the city's rehabilitation loan program in two ways. First, the loan process itself was examined to ascertain whether there were any deficiencies in the loan program which should be …

Chapter IV (Findings) of this report, "Homemaker and Former Clientele Evaluation of the Homemaker Service of Lane County," is a condensed version of that found in the master …

Aboriginal Clay Figurines From The Upper Rogue Valley In Southwestern Oregon, Lyman Patrick Deich Jan 1980

Aboriginal Clay Figurines From The Upper Rogue Valley In Southwestern Oregon, Lyman Patrick Deich

Dissertations and Theses

A study of 80 clay figurines from aboriginal sites in the upper Rogue River Valley in southwestern Oregon fails to reveal any connection with other figurines found in the Pacific Northwest and northern California. A preference for animal rather than human representations is demonstrated. The temporal distribution of the figurines is not known, but spatial distribution appears roughly coextensive with territories occupied by the upland Takelma at the time of Euro-American contact during the second quarter of the nineteenth century.

Harney Area Cultural Resources Class I Inventory, Ruth Mcgilvra Bright Jan 1980

Harney Area Cultural Resources Class I Inventory, Ruth Mcgilvra Bright

Dissertations and Theses

This document presents the Cultural Resources Overview for the Harney Area in southeastern Oregon. The Harney Area combines three of the four planning units in the Burns Bureau of Land Management District. Most of the land in the Harney Area is located in Harney County, although a few parcels are just outside the county line in Lake and Malheur Counties. Almost all of Harney County is included. There are approximately 3,320,000 acres of Bureau administered public land within the Harney Area, as well as other public and private lands.

A Generalist Approach To Social Work Practice : Model And Synthesis, Chuck H. Johnson, Paul S. Knight, Michael W. Krumper, John H. Rademaker Jan 1980

A Generalist Approach To Social Work Practice : Model And Synthesis, Chuck H. Johnson, Paul S. Knight, Michael W. Krumper, John H. Rademaker

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this research practicum is twofold. First, to present a synthesis of current generalist literature and to formulate a practice model which is both comprehensive and representative of current generalist practice in direct services. To our knowledge there is no single reference or source which in and of itself accomplishes this purpose. Therefore, such a model would make an important contribution to the field. Second, to develop a questionnaire which could be used to conduct a descriptive survey of generalist social work practice in Oregon. It would determine the extent to which practitioners in Oregon are practicing as …

A Psychometric Evaluation Of The Bicycle Drawing Test And The Establishment Of Preliminary Norms, Mary Lee Nichols Jan 1980

A Psychometric Evaluation Of The Bicycle Drawing Test And The Establishment Of Preliminary Norms, Mary Lee Nichols

Dissertations and Theses

The main purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric characteristics of the Bicycle Drawing Test. The 20-point scoring criterion was evaluated, and the preliminary norms were established.

The Bicycle Drawing Test is an easily administered free-style drawing task that has been found to be a useful addition to a neuropsychological test battery. It provides a sample of visuopractic functioning involving the formation of a perceptual construct, a motor response, and a spatial component.

Geophysical And Geochemical Analyses Of Selected Miocene Coastal Basalt Features, Clatsop County, Oregon, Virginia Josette Pfaff Jan 1980

Geophysical And Geochemical Analyses Of Selected Miocene Coastal Basalt Features, Clatsop County, Oregon, Virginia Josette Pfaff

Dissertations and Theses

The proximity of Miocene Columbia River basalts to the "locally-erupted" coastal Miocene basalts in northwestern Oregon, and the compelling similarities between the two groups, suggest that the coastal basalts, rather than being locally erupted, may be the westward extension of plateau basalts derived from eastern Oregon and Washington.

The local-origin hypothesis is based largely on the interpretation of coastal dikes and sills as representing vent areas; however, a complex mechanism, as yet unsatisfactorily defined, would be required to cause the eruption of virtually identical magmas simultaneously from source areas 500 km apart.

This study, therefore, has investigated the coastal basalt …

Kykloi : Cyclic Theories In Ancient Greece, Hubert Wayne Nelson Jan 1980

Kykloi : Cyclic Theories In Ancient Greece, Hubert Wayne Nelson

Dissertations and Theses

It is both curious and frustrating, given the perennial popularity of the cycle concept in Ancient Greece, that there has not been a single book written devoted to the wide variety of philosophic and historical conceptions bound up with that loosely descriptive designation. This study was originally undertaken to satisfy my own curiosity on the subject. Herein I intend to survey the entire history of the cycle concept in general from about 700 B.C. to the time of Polybius in the second-century A.D. It is intended to be a descriptive as well as an analytical report.

Salem Teen Mother Program: A Follow-Up Study, Frances L. Barton Jan 1980

Salem Teen Mother Program: A Follow-Up Study, Frances L. Barton

Dissertations and Theses

Society has, historically, reacted to teenage pregnancies with a mixture of embarrassment, apathy and neglect. It wasn't until the 1960's that an attempt was made to design and implement programs to meet the needs of pregnant adolescents. An example of such a program is the Salem Teen Mother Program. This program was begun in 1966 and is affiliated with the local YWCA. If offers a comprehensive program to approximately 150 students each year. The services it offers include day care, social services and counseling, education, health services, parenting skills and employment counseling.

The following chapters include a literature review which …

Public Transit And Student Choice : A Survey With Portland State University Students, Sheku Gibril Kamara Jan 1980

Public Transit And Student Choice : A Survey With Portland State University Students, Sheku Gibril Kamara

Dissertations and Theses

Research in urban transportation has been of many facets. Some have emphasized modes and routes while others have attempted to isolate and look at small segments of the transportation market with specific demands. Such segments include workers, recreation riders, and to a less extent, students. In the "journey-to-work" studies, a major finding has been that as income of workers increases, the distance between residence and work-place also increases.

This thesis starts with a series of hypotheses generated as a result of the findings of other studies reviewed in the literature. In testing the hypotheses, variables that are likely to influence …
