The past few years have witnessed a trend of increased delegation of authority to central banks. Increasing central bank independence is a recommended strategy for governments to establish a credible commitment to price stability as the final objective of the monetary authority, even at the cost of other objectives that may be more appealing to the political authorities. Existing literature on measuring central bank independence focuses on developed countries where quantifying the independence of central banks is easier, since quantifying the legal charter is sufficient to reflect the degree of central bank independence. An Exploration Of Structural, Cultural And Institutional Factors Behind The Japanese Recession, 1990-2000, Yasmin Ahmed Mowafy

This paper analyses the causes behind the Japanese economic downturn which started in the 1990s and investigates the failure of both fiscal and monetary policy to remedy the recession. The author asserts that the Japanese economy was due for recession when two factors occurred to precipitate it, the asset price bubble and the banking crisis. However, a recession would have occurred even if these events had not transpired, because of a number of structural factors. The recession was then prolonged by the existence of the "liquidity trap". The objective of this thesis is to study and analyze the economics of technological innovation in relation to market and industry analysis as applied to the Egyptian food processing industry. The research is motivated by the importance and impact of technological innovation on economic and industry processes, particularly pertaining to feasibility of technological adoption and subsequent diffusion of innovative technologies. The Egyptian Food Processing Industry is analyzed fully using descriptive microeconomic methodology and by utilizing an industry wise supply chain analysis. Participatory development has become one of the central influences in mainstream development thinking, as a result many of the influential bilateral and multilateral agencies, including the World Bank, have joined the advocacy of participatory development. In practice, participatory development encounters many challenges. First, local communities may not be homogeneous. Second, the local people often tell questioners what they think the questioners want to hear, a process which Chambers calls "inadvertent ventriloquism". he surface and acidic properties of mixed sulfated zirconium and titanium oxides were investigated in the present study. One mode of preparation was followed entailing the use of zirconium sulfate and titanium oxysulfate as starting materials in a 1:1 ratio, and ammonium hydroxide as a precipitating agent. The resulting oxides were subjected to different extents of washing with water to vary their sulfate content. The mixed oxides were then analyzed by nitrogen adsorption, infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis for sulfur content. It integrates the study of virtual communities and media convergence research with a broader social milieu that is represented in two levels of research the micro level and the macro one. Among the significances of this thesis, is that it is considered to be the first academic investigation in the Arab World that tackles this theme of research.
