Goal Statement: The goal of this prevention plan is to promote awareness of the adverse effects of substance use in Glenn County through workshops and work with schools and the community to increase resources for adolescents to decrease their partaking of substance use.

Significant Findings: The rates of adolescent substance use in Glenn County, California, have rapidly increased. From 2019 to 2021, marijuana usage in adolescents was 16% (California Department of Education, 2023), and 8.9% of adolescents reported consuming alcohol (National Center for Drug Statistics, 2023). Goal Statement: For this project, my goal is to have a better understanding of the issues rural LGBTQ+ youth face and identify resources and a plan that can lead to the recognition and prevention of LGBTQ+ depression and suicide.

Significant Findings: The LGBTQ+ youth population within rural Minnesota faces mental health challenges, discrimination within the community and schools, and parental support issues (Trevor Project, 2021; Reisner et al., 2020). This population also has multiple barriers to quality care, supportive resources, and access to an accepting community (Israel, Willging, & Ley, 2016). Goal Statement: The goal of this project is to increase awareness of adolescent depressive disorders and to identify resources and develop a plan to address risk factors.

Significant Findings: Central Ohio’s adolescent population faces challenges related to chronic disease, mental health, and addiction. Mental health challenges are increasing among high school students with a notable rise in depressive symptoms and depressive disorders. When depressive symptoms are left untreated, individuals may experience significant negative physical, social, and academic consequences. Goal Statement: The goal of this social change portfolio is to decrease the risk of suicidal ideation in Calvert County, MD by using preventative methods, let us help these adolescents before they become another statistic that could have been prevented. Significant Findings: In Calvert County, MD there are only 93,928 individuals, yet adolescent death by suicidal ideation is higher, 16.5 deaths per 100,000 individuals, than the national average, 10.2 deaths per 100,000 individuals (Data Commons, 2021b; Healthy Calvert, 2020). Goal Statement: This Social Change Portfolio aims to develop and optimize prevention efforts to decrease alcohol use disorder (AUD) among United States service members.

Significant Findings: Currently, there is a high rate of alcohol misuse and dependency in the United States military, with 80% of active duty military personnel consuming alcohol regularly and 34% participating in binge drinking behaviors (Hoopsick et al., 2022; Meadows et al., 2023). Alcohol use disorder (AUD) influences 42% of military men and women and is linked to other mental health disorders (Schick et al., 2021).
