In this article, a method of winding optimization of the linear generator is proposed to increase the electrical power generation from the oceanic wave. A linear generator is designed in the ANSYS/Maxwell environment to analyze the proposed winding optimization method. The electrical and magnetic properties of the generator are extensively analyzed. The cross-sectional area and the number of turns of the copper conductor are optimized to maximize the output power. All the existing linear generators used for oceanic wave energy conversions are basically a single-port linear electrical generators (SPLEGs). The conventional SPLEG transfers electrical power to the load/grid discontinuously due to its working principle and the intermittent nature of oceanic waves. This paper proposes a new dual-port linear electrical generator (DPLEG) topology, which is capable to transfer electrical power with an adequate voltage even at zero vertical velocity of the oceanic wave. Generalized continuous wave synthetic aperture radar (GCW-SAR) is a promising new imaging radar system since it applies the full-duplex (FD) transmission technique to achieve continuous signaling in order to overcome several fundamental limitations of the conventional pulsed SARs. As in any FD wireless communication system, self-interference (SI) is also a key problem which can impact on the GCW-SAR system. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine whether work-to-family conflict (WFC) and work-to-family enrichment (WFE) predicted burnout in working mothers using conservation of resources theory. The authors also examined whether these relationships varied between sole and partnered working mothers. Design/methodology/approach - In total, 516 partnered and 107 sole mothers in paid employment completed an online survey twice, six months apart. Findings - WFC was significantly positively related to burnout, and WFE significantly negatively related to burnout. Marital status moderated the inverse relationship between WFE and personal burnout, and this relationship was significant for partnered mothers only. Research …

The objective of the present work is to serve as a practical addendum to the discrete parameter Oscillating Water Column (OWC) Wave Energy Conversion (WEC) device model proposed by Folley and Whittaker [1] at the 24th International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. In particular, a method for the interpretation of their discrete parameter model is presented, consisting of a translation from the tuning and air compressibility parameter map reported to a response spectrum representation. In this more commonly encountered form the model is more readily physically interpreted for design and analysis application.

The ability of benthic communities inhabiting coral reefs to produce calcium carbonate underpins the development of reef platforms and associated sedimentary landforms, as well as the fixation of inorganic carbon and buffering of diurnal pH fluctuations in ocean surface waters. Modulation theory, based on a Lagrangian formulation of the governing equations, is used to investigate the propagation of a nonlinear, nonlocal optical vortex solitary wave in a finite nematic-liquid-crystal cell. The nematic response to the vortex is calculated using the approach of themethod of images (MOI). It is demonstrated that the MOI is a reliable alternative to the usual Fourier series solution as it requires an order of magnitude fewer terms to obtain excellent agreement with numerical solutions. We reveal that the recently discovered specular Andreev reflection (SAR) [C. W. J. Beenakker, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 067007 (2006)] can occur in semiconductors where the spin-orbit coupling is finite. We demonstrate this finding in the hybrid of a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a superconductor. In the limit of low density or a strong spin-orbit coupling, specular Andreev reflection is finite. We also show that unit electron-hole conversion is possible in a specular Andreev reflection due to the different topological structures of the equal-energy surface between electrons and holes. The optical parameters of three ZnTe crystal wafers of different thicknesses were determined using transmittance measurements of continuous-wave terahertz radiation from a two-color photomixing source. The parameters are extracted by fitting the transmittance data with theoretical curves generated using a Drude-Lorentz dielectric model of the crystal and a bootstrap statistical analysis of the fits. It was found at room temperature that the low and high frequency dielectric constants are ϵ(0) = 9.8±0.2 and ϵ(∞) = 7.3±0.6, respectively. We demonstrate a terahertz-wave parametric oscillator (TPO) with a corner-cube resonator consisting of a corner-cube prism (CCP) and a flat mirror. By using the cavity configuration proposed in this Letter, the generation of tunable monochromatic terahertz (THz) waves can be achieved just by rotating the flat mirror instead of rotating the TPO cavity relative to the pump beam. The THz-wave output intensity and pulse width can be controlled periodically by rotating the CCP around the cavity axis. We have provided theoretical study on the spectral and temporal properties of the scattering of pulsed plane wave from a symmetrical groove doublet configuration. Based on the numerical calculation results, we show that the spectrum and the waveform of the scattered field are sensitive to the shape of the rectangular grooves when the grooves are deep enough. In both spectral and temporal domain, a damped oscillatory behavior occurs when the groove spacing increases. Furthermore, the spectral and temporal dependences of the angular distribution are consisted of interference-like fringe patterns. These patterns are sensitive to the size of the groove width …

Along 3 replicate transects, sediments were sampled from a subtidal sandbank in Cockburn Sound, Western Australia, at 4 depths: 1.5, 4 and 8 m and at 14 m on the flat at the base of the bank. Pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) fluorescence, fluxes of oxygen and inorganic nutrients, N2 fixation and denitrification were measured and sediments analysed for granulometry, pigments, fatty acids, neutral lipids, organic C and total N. The analysis of floating oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy conversion (WEC) devices involves the coupled dynamics of the water column and the floating structure. In the present study, a mechanical oscillator model was used to examine this relationship for the heave motion of a floating wave energy conversion device. Optimal power take-off damping of the system was determined and the effects on maximum power capture examined. The influence of relative OWC and floating structure natural frequencies on OWC WEC device optimisation was also investigated.

Coupling Interaction Of Electromagnetic Wave In A Groove Doublet Configuration, Lan Ding, Jinsong Liu, Kejia Wang, Dong Wang

Based on the waveguide mode (WGM) method, coupling interaction of electromagnetic wave in a groove doublet configuration is studied. The formulation obtained by WGM method for a single groove [Prog. Electromagn. Res. 18, 1–17 (1998)] is extended to two grooves. By exploring the total scattered field of the configuration, coupling interaction ratios are defined to describe the interaction between grooves quantitatively. Since each groove in this groove doublet configuration is regarded as the basic unit, the effects of coupling interaction on the scattered fields of each groove can be investigated respectively.
