A Comparison Of Viewers' Cognitive And Psychophysiological Responses To Threat-Appeal Tv Advertisements, Jennifer Ann Algie

This study examines the emotional reactions experienced by viewers during threat appeal anti-speeding TV advertisements using both a cognitive continuous response measure of fear and a psychophysiological response measure of arousal. Static, postonly, self-report methods are typically used to obtain ad responses, however this study uses dynamic continuous response measures to gain a better picture of how viewers are responding throughout the entire ad. A comparison of the two different types of continuous response measures is made to determine if both measures produce similar or different results. Hierarchic document clustering has been applied to search results (query-specific clustering) on the grounds of its potential improved effectiveness compared both to that of static clustering and of conventional inverted file search (IFS).

In this paper we review and compare the effects of seven different measures of similarity among docwnents in hierarchic query specific clustering. We have conducted a number of experiments using OHSUMED document collection. The Experiments seems to indicate that the choice of similarity measure effects positively or negatively the quality of clustering.

Rotary valves and blowtanks are widely used in industry for the pneumatic conveying of products, each having their pros and cons depending on the required application. This paper aims to show the differing results that can be obtained when conveying a product through a common pipeline using either a drop-through rotary valve or a bottom discharge blowtank. The rotary valve system has a number of issues, the main one being air leakage effects, whereas the blowtank system does not as it is an enclosed unit. The results of these experiments showed dramatic differences in product tonnage.

Rotational temperatures derived from the OH(8–3) band may vary by ~18K depending on the choice of transition probabilities. This is of concern when absolute temperatures or trends determined in combination with measurements of other hydroxyl bands are important. In this paper, measurements of the OH(8–3) temperature-insensitive Q/P and R/P line intensity ratios are used to select the most appropriate transition probabilities for use with this band. Aurora, airglow and solar and telluric absorption in the OH(8–3) band are also investigated. We present observations of the hydroxyl (6–2) airglow lines from ~ 87 km altitude obtained at Davis station, Antarctica, in the austral winter of 1999. Nine nights of observations were made of the P-branch near λ840 nm with a Czerny-Turner scanning spectrometer (CTS); at the same time, high-resolution Fabry-Perot Spectrometer (FPS) spectra were collected of the Q1(1) doublet at λ834 nm. Rotational temperatures were determined from the CTS observations, while Doppler temperatures were derived from the line-widths of the FPS Q1(1) spectra. Cancer is a leading cause of death in developed countries; 27 per cent of all Australian deaths are due to cancer, with 35,000 people dying annually. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer amongst men in most Western countries. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women aged over 30 years, and causes the highest proportion of cancer deaths in women. Egleston et al report a significant difference in plasma paracetamol concen­ trations assayed with the AcetaSite bench assay and a standard laboratory assay. Rapid and accurate determinations of plasma paracetamol concentrations are crucial in the expeditious and appropriate administration of antidotal treatment, which prevents severe liver damage if given sufficiently early in the course of poisoning.

Three isolates of Haemonchus contortus selected for avermectin resistance in sheep were compared in three in vitro pharmacological tests previously shown to discriminate between field isolates of H. contortus resistant and susceptible to the avermectins. Two isolates, F7-A and IVC, were selected for avermectin resistance in the laboratory from a reference susceptible isolate using suboptimal doses of ivermectin (LD95) for 7 and 16 generations, respectively. In these isolates avermectin resistance was not associated with a decreased sensitivity to avermectin inhibition of larval development or L3 motility but was associated with an increased sensitivity to paraherquamide. The steps of two immunofluorescent-antibody-based detection methods were evaluated for their efficiencies in detecting Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts. The two methods evaluated were the American Society for Testing and Materials proposed test method for Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts in low-turbidity water and a procedure employing sampling by membrane filtration, Percoll-Percoll step gradient, and immunofluorescent staining. The membrane filter sampling method was characterized by higher recovery rates in all three types of waters tested: raw surface water, partially treated water from a flocculation basin, and filtered water. Cyst and oocyst recovery efficiencies decreased with increasing water turbidity regardless of …
