A Computational Framework For Behaviour Adaptation: The Case For Agents And Business Processes, Yingzhi Gou Jan 2018

A Computational Framework For Behaviour Adaptation: The Case For Agents And Business Processes, Yingzhi Gou

University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 2017+

Behaviour adaptation is a critical desideratum in almost all kinds of computational machinery. The challenge is to address the limitations of pre-programmed behaviour, which cannot anticipate the potentially vast range of possible situations in which that behaviour would need to be deployed or the potential adversarial behaviour of other entities in the operating context. This dissertation seeks to address this challenge in the context of two currently popular classes of computational machinery: intelligent agents and business processes.

Strategic Alignment Of Business Processes, Evan Morrison Jan 2014

Strategic Alignment Of Business Processes, Evan Morrison

University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016

Strategic business process alignment is the practice of correlating business processes to organisational strategy, addressing problems within organisations where processes are misaligned. A business may have processes that do not contribute towards their organisational strategies. Additionally, there may be organisational strategies that are unfulfilled as there are no processes within the business that can satisfy them. Through process composition and assessing strategic alignment, businesses can ensure that all components of the organisation work towards the core goals and the company vision. The motivation of this thesis stems from a lack of formal understanding of the subject.

This paper presents the impact of RFID technology on the picking and shipping processes of one RFID-enabled warehouse in the 3PL industry. The findings from our study confirm initial results from many studies where RFID implementation has been shown to enable business process redesign, improve data quality, real-time data collection and synchronization and enhance system integration. In this study we show that the full potential of RFID technology is dependent upon the involvement of all supply chain members involved in implementation. Moreover, firms considering implementing RFID technology need to take into account their investment in complementary assets such as employee …
