A Study Of The Junior High School Intramural Sports Program In The Richmond Public Schools, Sattler Burns Anderson
A Study Of The Junior High School Intramural Sports Program In The Richmond Public Schools, Sattler Burns Anderson
Master's Theses
There has been much progress made in the field of intramural sports in the past forty years. With the rapid advancement and acceptance by leaders and students, it is imperative that educators strive to produce a better intramural sports program through continuous research. Because so much of the literature in this field has dealt with the high school or college intramural program, a more careful study needs to be made of the junior high school intramural sports program.

The History Of Interposition, John Harrison Geiser
The History Of Interposition, John Harrison Geiser
Master's Theses
As long as governments, laws and regulations have existed, men have sought means to challenge, circumvent and annul them. Whether honorably or selfishly motivated, only time, the great revelator can prove; and few lessons learned serve to prevent mens thoughts from again straying to these channels or desire.
To thoroughly exhaust the subject or desire in man to resist authority in government would be to re-write mythology and add still another labor to the burdens or Hercules. To do it completely would involve a lifetime of study, another of writing, and would necessitate encompassing all knowledge of men, religion, government …
Some Views Of Slavery From The Writings Of Virginia Authors, 1824-1865, Josephine Mary Logan
Some Views Of Slavery From The Writings Of Virginia Authors, 1824-1865, Josephine Mary Logan
Master's Theses
The period from 1824 to 1865 was a most critical one in the history of the United States. It was during those years that issues of great magnitude arose. After a period of discussion, views crystallized and finally became fundamental beliefs in the minds of the people of both the North and tho South. The result of those beliefs culminated in the Civil war. Tho issues were concerned chiefly with the question or states' rights, tho protective tariff, and, last but not least, with that of African slavery.
In Virginia, which had been the first of tho English colonies in …
A Historical Survey Of Methods Of Solving Cubic Equations, Minna Burgess Connor
A Historical Survey Of Methods Of Solving Cubic Equations, Minna Burgess Connor
Master's Theses
It has been said that the labor-saving devices ot this modern age have been made possible by the untiring efforts of lazy men. While working with cubic equations, solving them according to the standard methods appearing in modern text-books on the theory of equations, it became apparent, that in many cases, the finding of solutions was a long and tedious process involving numerical calculations into which numerous errors could creep. Confessing to laziness, and having been told at an impressionable age that "any fool can do it the hard way but it takes a genius to find the easy …
The Dipole Moments Of A Series Of N, N-Diphenylbenzamides, James William Cooke
The Dipole Moments Of A Series Of N, N-Diphenylbenzamides, James William Cooke
Master's Theses
In recent years amides have been used in synthetic fibers, plastics and in medicinal chemistry. Under standably, the literature contains many preparations and reactions of unsubstituted, monosubstituted and disubstituted amides, however, their structure has received very little attention. The information avail able on the amide group structure originates from studies made on the unsubstituted and mono substituted compounds. The phenomenon of association of the amides has received considerable attention.
The Comparative Morphology Of The Central Nervous System Of The Larva, Pupa, And Adult Of Epilachnia Corrupta, Raymond F. Moore
The Comparative Morphology Of The Central Nervous System Of The Larva, Pupa, And Adult Of Epilachnia Corrupta, Raymond F. Moore
Master's Theses
The nervous system of insects has been subject of much study and research. By far the greatest part of this work has been on the orders of Orthopters, Lepidopters, Hymenopters, Diptera, and Coleoptera. This has been limited, in most cases, to a particular stage in the life history of the insect. This paper looks to study the morphology of the central nervous system of Epilachnia corrupta through all its stages in its life cycle.
Tetrazolium Salts, Andrew Garnett Richardson
Tetrazolium Salts, Andrew Garnett Richardson
Master's Theses
Tetrazolium salts, as the name indicates, are quartenary. Substitution is possible on positions 2, 3, and 5 of the ring as is shown in type formula (I). When these substituent groups are bifunctional ditetrazolium salts of types (II), (III), and (IV) result. Compounds bridged at both R' and R'' at the same time are theoretical possible, but no such cases have been reported, probably on account of the practical limitations of synthesis. The anion, which is indicated by X, may be halide, sulfate, acetate, picrate, succinate, thiocyanate, or practically any atom or group capable of existing as a negative ion.
An Investigation Of The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory As A Predictor Of Adjustment To College Life, John Thomas Drury
An Investigation Of The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory As A Predictor Of Adjustment To College Life, John Thomas Drury
Master's Theses
College populations are rapidly growing and many millions or young people will have a chance for college in the future who would not have had an opportunity for such an education some years ago. Factors making for success in college become more important as the population increases and facilities become more limited. The present investigation is directed to the matter of adjustment to college life and the prediction of such adjustment with the use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.
Human personality has been the object or much re search and discussion through the centuries. Many psychol ogists have proposed …

Observations On The Morphology, Physiology, And Life History Of Allescheria Boydii Shear, Robert Denton Flory
Master's Theses
Of those organisms upon the face of the earth displaying a wide range of variability, excellent examples may be found amoung certain groups of the fungi. This extreme variation as noted in certain fungal groups becomes even more interesting when the phenomenon of sexuality is eliminated or of rare occurrence as in many of the Fungi Imperfecti. Such extreme variations occur in Allescheria Boydii, whose historical background is as interesting as the growth of the fungus itself.
In 1909 Tarozzi (46)isolated a fungus organism as the causative agent in a Sardinian case of mycetoma. Tarozzi referred this fungus to Saccardo, …

Today, in a period of relative peace in the world, the radio and the press continually point out the constant threats to our nation's security. The role of the civilian is being more closely defined with our national security program with continuing emphasis being laid upon Civil Defense. The educator today must recognize his role in the program for furthering the security of the nation and above all must work toward the self-protection of bis school and his student body through active participation in the nation's Civil Defense Program
Valuation Of Closely Held And Untraded Stocks Held As Collateral By Banks In Support Of Loans, Richard Mortensen Linder
Valuation Of Closely Held And Untraded Stocks Held As Collateral By Banks In Support Of Loans, Richard Mortensen Linder
Master's Theses
It is recognized that one of the primary functions of modern day banking is the extension of credit. Properly administered, the fulfillment of this function is, either directly or indirectly, of importance to the general welfare. Properly loaned money is a source of income to the bank, and hence to the stockholders and employees; it enables the retailer to carry his inventory; the wholesaler to purchase and distribute a variety of products; and the manufacturer to produce a needed finished product. Direct loans to individuals are likewise of vital importance for many reasons. Borrowed funds may enable an individual to …

The golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucaa, forms a monotypic species in the fish family, Cyprinidae. It is a medium-sized minnow which inhabits ponds and sluggish freshwater streams in North America from latitude; 30°N. to 50°N. In the south its range is restricted to the area east of the Appalachian Mountains. The northern and western part of the range extends to Wyoming and south to the drainages of the Arkansas and upper Ohio Rivers.
Chelation Of The Transition Metal Ions With A Series Of Polyhodrozyamine Compounds, William Percy Moore
Chelation Of The Transition Metal Ions With A Series Of Polyhodrozyamine Compounds, William Percy Moore
Master's Theses
Chelation was reviewed with emphasis on the work done by contemporary workers.
The following polyhydroxyamine compounds were synthesized, purified and· analyzed:
1,2-bis[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]ethane dihydrochloride
1,3-b1s[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]propane dihydrochloride
1,3-b1s[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]-2-propanone dihydrochloride
1,2,3-tris[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino)propane tri hydrochloride
The latter two compounds have not been reported in the literature.
Chelates were prepared by reacting the above compounds, and 1-3bis[tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino]-2-propanol dihydrochloride ("disec") and the "disec" free base, with the ions of the first transition metals. Stability constants were obtained where appreciable coordination occurred before precipitation of the metallic ion took place . A list of the metal ions studied with one or more chelating agents follows: Cu+2, …

Honors Theses
"The wheel was the crowning achievement of prehistoric carpentry..." Since the discovery of the wheel and its part in revolutionizing transportation for the individual, it has been destined to play a leading role in transportation as an industry.
At the conclusion of the Civil War the era was marked by expansion in industry and agriculture. This expansion was possible through transportation. At the front was the railroad, but the horse and wagon method of transport was behind the scenes, playing an active role, and destined to rise to the front with the introduction of the combustion engine.
In the South, …
