Compact Microlenslet Arrays Imager, Jannick Rolland, Vesselin Chaoulov, Ricardo Martins Mar 2006

Compact Microlenslet Arrays Imager, Jannick Rolland, Vesselin Chaoulov, Ricardo Martins

UCF Patents

Extremely compact and light-weight optical systems, apparatus, devices and methods to image miniature displays. Such systems include, for example, head-mounted projection displays (HMPD), head-mounted displays (HMDs), and cameras for special effects, compact microscopes and telescopes as well as applications in which magnification and compactness are design criteria. The invention includes an ultra-compact imaging system based on microlenslet arrays and demonstrates that such a system can achieve an object-to-image distance as low as approximately 1.7 mm. with the usage of commercially available microlenslet arrays. The replacement of bulk macro-optical system by multi-aperture micro-optics is achieved.

Compounds And Method For Enhancing The Efficacy Of Anti-Cancer Drugs, Otto Phanstiel Feb 2006

Compounds And Method For Enhancing The Efficacy Of Anti-Cancer Drugs, Otto Phanstiel

UCF Patents

By studiying a series of polyamine anthacoe conjugates we have discovered the optimum architecture to selectively delivery drug cargoes to cancer cells using the polyamine transport system. The homospermidine analogue the (4,3) and (5,4) analogues all gave enhanced selectivity in delivering an appended anthracene drug into cancer cells. this marks the first time that a triamine structure has been identified as enhancing delivery of an appended cargo.

Photosensitive Polymeric Material For Worm Optical Data Storage With Two Photon Fluorescent Readout., Kevin Belfield Feb 2006

Photosensitive Polymeric Material For Worm Optical Data Storage With Two Photon Fluorescent Readout., Kevin Belfield

UCF Patents

A photosensitive polymeric material was prepared and used to demonstrate 3-D optical data storage. Recording by conventional UVvisible exposure and photolithography or two-photon near-IR excitation was demonstrated. 3-D readout of multilayer media was demonstrated using multichannel two-photon upconverted flourescence detection. Both positive and negative image formation is possible.

Liquid Jet-Initiated Plasma Discharge For Generating Useful Plasma Radiation, Martin Richardson, William Silfvast Feb 2006

Liquid Jet-Initiated Plasma Discharge For Generating Useful Plasma Radiation, Martin Richardson, William Silfvast

UCF Patents

Plasma discharge sources for generating emissions in the VUV, EUV and X-ray spectral regions. Embodiments can include running a current through liquid jet streams within space to initiate plasma discharges. Additional embodiments can include liquid droplets within the space to initiate plasma discharges. One embodiment can form a substantially cylindrical plasma sheath. Another embodiment can form a substantially conical plasma sheath. Another embodiment can form bright spherical light emission from a cross-over of linear expanding plasmas. All the embodiments can generate light emitting plasmas within a space by applying voltage to electrodes adjacent to the space. All the radiative emissions …

Head Mounted Display By Integration Of Phase-Conjugate Material, Jannick Rolland, Yonggang Ha, Ricardo Martins Feb 2006

Head Mounted Display By Integration Of Phase-Conjugate Material, Jannick Rolland, Yonggang Ha, Ricardo Martins

UCF Patents

This invention has incorporated projective optics and phase conjugate material thus eliminating the requisite use of an external phase conjugate material to provide a see-through head mounted projective display. A key component of the invention is the use of optical imaging technology in combination with projective optics to make this revolutionary technology work. In previous head mounted projective displays the phase conjugate material had to be placed in the environment to display images, but in this invention one is not limited to the use of an external phase conjugate material but further extends its use to outdoor see-through augmented reality …

High Brightness Twisted Nematic Transflective Liquid Crystal Display, Shin-Tson Wu, Wing Choi Jan 2006

High Brightness Twisted Nematic Transflective Liquid Crystal Display, Shin-Tson Wu, Wing Choi

UCF Patents

Transflective twisted nematic (TN) liquid crystal displays(LCDs) having enhanced transmission efficiencies. Due to the use of circularly polarized light, the novel TN transflective LCD uses a new operation mode between the conventional First and Second Minimums, which alters the retardation value of the reflection and the transmission portions, where the retardation values each include a cell gap spacing. This results in the cell gap spacing in the transmission portion of the transflective LCD to be approximately triple the cell gap spacing in the reflection portion of the transflective LCD whereby the transmission efficiency increases to approximately 90 percent.

Combined Methane Decomposition And Ammonia Formation Cell, John Bradenburg Jan 2006

Combined Methane Decomposition And Ammonia Formation Cell, John Bradenburg

UCF Patents

An ammonia synthesis process and apparatus are provided which are energy efficient and minimize greenhouse-gas-emission during the processing of natural gas and air. In the process a strem of natural gas is divided into two streams, one of which is mixed with air and ignited to provide heat for the thermal decomposition of natural gas nto hydrogen and carbon and also to provide deoxygenated nitrogen for an ammonia synthesis process. The process essentially prepares hydrogen and nitrogen on a low average temperature side of the chemical reactor where they react to form ammonia. The formation of ammonia is exothermic, whereas …

Fast Response In-Plane-Switching Pi-Cell Liquid Crystal Displays, Shin-Tson Wu, Qi Hong, Ruibo Lu, Xinzhang Wu, Xinyu Zhu Jan 2006

Fast Response In-Plane-Switching Pi-Cell Liquid Crystal Displays, Shin-Tson Wu, Qi Hong, Ruibo Lu, Xinzhang Wu, Xinyu Zhu

UCF Patents

Transmissive liquid crystal displays having response time that can be approximately 2 to approximately 3 times faster than conventional displays. The displays adjust the rubbing angles to above approximately 20 degrees and preferably between approximately 30 and approximately 40 degrees. The displays have fast response times, enhanced brightness and increased gray scale linearity while maintaining wide viewing angle.

Dc-Dc Converter With Coupled-Inductors Current-Doubler, Issa Batarseh, Jaber Abu Qahouq, Hong Mao Jan 2006

Dc-Dc Converter With Coupled-Inductors Current-Doubler, Issa Batarseh, Jaber Abu Qahouq, Hong Mao

UCF Patents

A coupled-inductor current-doubler topology for a power converter has first and second rectifiers and first and second coupled inductors. Each coupled indicator has a main inductor inductively coupled with a secondary inductor. The secondary inductor of the first coupled inductor is coupled in series with one of the first and second rectifiers and the secondary inductor of the second coupled inductor coupled in series with the other one of the first and second rectifiers.
