The current study aims to examine the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation via telehealth as part of routine care in an outpatient substance use treatment program in Jakarta, Indonesia. The randomized controlled study design was performed to find the difference between the mean score of the Mindfulness Attention and Awareness Scale (MAAS) and the Aggregated Drug Craving Scale (ADCS) level before and after the intervention for the treatment group (n=15) and the control group (n=15). The two 2-way ANOVA (groups x times) was conducted to find the difference in ADCS and MAAS scores between the treatment group who received the Treatment …
All In The Same Boat: A Qualitative Investigation Into The Relationship Between Peer-Led Chronic Pain Support Groups And Chronic Pain Management, Avery Cook
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
Chronic pain is a current public health problem that significantly impacts the United States, including the disproportionate impact on specific communities, quality of life, and the impact on the U.S. economy (Institute of Medicine et al., 2011). Many chronic pain management techniques are used in modern pain management therapies; however, cost, ability, and opportunity can impact the effectiveness of these techniques. Social support documented as an efficacious pain management technique. However, peer-led chronic pain support groups are under-researched. Through a qualitative grounded theory approach, this research used semi-structured interviews to investigate the relationship between peer-led chronic pain support group membership …
Client Views About Length Of Medicated Assisted Therapy For Opioid Use Disorder, Trista Gottwalt
Client Views About Length Of Medicated Assisted Therapy For Opioid Use Disorder, Trista Gottwalt
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
Opioid addiction has been on the rise since 1990, when physicians began administering prescription pain medications. The population has undergone a drastic change from opioid prescriptions such as oxycodone to illicit forms, such as heroin, to aid pain management. Illegal opiates became the alternative drug at a lower cost to fulfill cravings and dependence that prescriptions may no longer feed. With a rise in dependence, pharmaceutical laboratories developed medicated assistant treatments (MAT) to aid in this crisis, more formally known as buprenorphine and methadone. Studies conducted show evidence of a decrease in illicit opioid use when using these medicated treatments …

Case Conferencing Decreases Occupational Stress For Vrs Interpreters: A Qualitative Study, Carrie L. Wilbert
Case Conferencing Decreases Occupational Stress For Vrs Interpreters: A Qualitative Study, Carrie L. Wilbert
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
Many sign language interpreters working within Video Relay Services (VRS) experience more occupational stress than interpreters working in community settings (Dean, Pollard, & Samar, 2010). There exists a lack of research to guide the field of sign language interpreting in coping strategies that can be used to decrease the stress and burnout that is endemic to working in VRS. This qualitative research case study explores how case conferencing can be strategic in mitigating stress and increasing retention in the field. Case conferencing combined with Dean and Pollard’s Demand Control Schema is a relatively recent approach for critical thinking and ethical …

Culminating Projects in Special Education
In Chapter 1, a rationale, a statement regarding the focus of my paper, and historical backgrounds of both community-based mental health services and the history surrounding school-based mental health (SBMH) services were provided. In Chapter 2, I review 15 studies dated between 2003 and 2017 addressing the results of school-based mental health programs involving either an in-school parental component or services delivered by clinicians in school settings and the implications SBMH presents for the educational system and its personnel. Studies reviewed are summarized in chronological order and include both quantitative data pertaining to changes in behavioral and academic qualities in …

Exploring First-Year College Students’ Attitudes Toward Disability: Impacts Of Disability Inclusion Training, Molly Ann Tast
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
Students with disabilities face numerous environmental and societal barriers at college. This quasi-experimental research project sought to examine what effect a short targeted training on disability inclusion would have on first-year college students’ attitudes toward persons with disabilities. A pretest and posttest of the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale Toward Persons with Disabilities was administered to a treatment and control group of college students enrolled in variety of first-year seminar courses at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was hypothesized that students who participated in the disability inclusion training would report significantly more positive attitudes toward persons with disabilities …

Abstract
This research project measured the social perceptions of international students from Saint Cloud State University, (SCSU), a regional comprehensive university in the Midwest, as well as, non-international participants about persons with disabilities. Vocational Counselor Credentials And Case Closures For Consumers With Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders, Peter Eischens
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
Copious studies have collected data on issues regarding employment among persons with a disability (consumers) and a co-occurring chemical dependency. However, more research needs to be conducted which focuses on the services provided to this specific population in regard to employment, specifically vocational rehabilitation counseling. This study examined whether master’s level rehabilitation counselors are being trained to effectively assist consumers with co-occurring substance use disorders. Study participants included master’s level rehabilitation counselors working for Minnesota Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) who were credentialed as Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC), CRC and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADC), have no credentials or have …

The Effect Of A Study Strategy Group On Self-Efficacy, Aaron P. Mertes
The Effect Of A Study Strategy Group On Self-Efficacy, Aaron P. Mertes
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
This paper investigates the effect of a psycho-educational group that teaches study strategies and supports perceived self-efficacy among college students. The study followed a within-group, pre-experimental design, with a pretest/posttest evaluation measuring quantitative data of perceived self-efficacy, as well as a demographic questionnaire. An instrument with high reliability was used to measure self-efficacy on two college students in an open group promoting inclusion of a diverse population. It was estimated that self-efficacy would increase after a total of six one-hour group counseling session were attended. Results showed improvement, however were statistically insignificant due largely to a low sample size.

Acceptance Of Persons With Disabilities Among Students At Scsu, Rachel Leighton Briant
Culminating Projects in Community Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
This Quasi-experimental research project measured the perceptions that graduate students held toward persons with disabilities. A pretest and posttest design was administered to a non-control group before and after their participation in the “disABILITY Awareness Event” that took place at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The event was composed of seven different stations that had “simulation experiences.” Each of these stations represented a specific disability, and were led by members of the community who had each individual disability. It was hypothesized that participation in the “disABILITY Awareness Event” would increase awareness and decrease negative stigma among participants …
