Discoverability And Search Engine Visibility Of Repository Platforms, Danping Dong, Aaron Tay Apr 2023

Discoverability And Search Engine Visibility Of Repository Platforms, Danping Dong, Aaron Tay

Research Collection Library

It is of increasing interest and importance to understand the discoverability of content hosted on institutional repositories (IRs) and data repositories beyond the library context and on the wider web, as IRs play a significant role in promoting and disseminating the research outputs of an institution. This chapter provides an overview of early studies on IR discoverability in search engines, discusses standardized metrics for repository usage and ways to monitor search engine optimization, and provides practical suggestions to expose IR content to non-Google indexes and aggregators, such as Unpaywall. The second part of this chapter presents a case study and …

Simple Or Complex? Together For A More Accurate Just-In-Time Defect Predictor, Xin Zhou, Donggyun Han, David Lo May 2022

Simple Or Complex? Together For A More Accurate Just-In-Time Defect Predictor, Xin Zhou, Donggyun Han, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Just-In-Time (JIT) defect prediction aims to automatically predict whether a commit is defective or not, and has been widely studied in recent years. In general, most studies can be classified into two categories: 1) simple models using traditional machine learning classifiers with hand-crafted features, and 2) complex models using deep learning techniques to automatically extract features. Hand-crafted features used by simple models are based on expert knowledge but may not fully represent the semantic meaning of the commits. On the other hand, deep learning-based features used by complex models represent the semantic meaning of commits but may not reflect useful …

Rethinking Institutional Repositories, Chee Hsien Aaron (Zheng Zhixian) Tay

Research Collection Library

The article discusses the reason behind the reluctance of some researchers to deposit their work in institutional repositories (IR). These include ignorance on the existence of IR and the right of researchers to self-archive, lack of permanent institutional affiliation, and the tendency of IR to offer poor user experience. Also mentioned is the need aggregate each IR and the advantage of IR over centralized silos.
