Riding The Active Learning Wave: Using Problem-Based Learning As A Catalyst For Creating Faculty-Librarian Partnerships, Michael Fosmire, Alexius Macklin
Riding The Active Learning Wave: Using Problem-Based Learning As A Catalyst For Creating Faculty-Librarian Partnerships, Michael Fosmire, Alexius Macklin
Libraries Research Publications
With higher education shifting its emphasis from teaching to learning and inputs to outcomes, active learning techniques are gaining prominence. Research has shown that students learn better when they actively engage the course content, rather than passively absorb lecture material. However, many faculty are unsure of how to take advantage of these new techniques to improve the learning outcomes for their students. For one active learning technique, problem-based learning, librarians are well positioned to facilitate its adoption into course curriculum. In order to effect a high-quality problem-based learning experience, a true collaboration of efforts needs to take place between the …
Specialty Tomato Variety Observation Trial For Indiana, 2002, Elizabeth Maynard
Specialty Tomato Variety Observation Trial For Indiana, 2002, Elizabeth Maynard
Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
The trial reported here is an extension of the specialty tomato trials conducted in Indiana in 2001. In that trial, 16 varieties were grown in replicated trials in two locations to evaluate their performance and suitability for the restaurant salad market. In this trial, the same 16 varieties plus an additional 17 varieties were grown in unreplicated plots for evaluation of yield and culinary quality.

Design And Simulation Of Novel Arrayed Waveguide Grating By Using The Method Of Irregularly Sampled Zero-Crossings , Sai Hu
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) is playing an increasingly important role in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system. The regular AWG device consists of an arrayed waveguide region where all the individual waveguides are equally spaced on the Rowland circle and the adjacent ones have constant length difference. The regularity of their positions and lengths leads to the phenomenon that a portion of the Rowland circle is occupied by the adjacent (undesired) order focused beams of the operation wavelength channels. The repetitions of the same wavelengths at different locations affect the device potential capacity. The method of irregularly sampled zero-crossings is …

Guide To Revenue Calculations For Local Option Highway User Tax (Lohut) 2002, Thomas C. Martin
Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Publications
This guide is provided to explain the output generated by the computer programs, and to suggest ways in which the results can be adapted to specific LOHUT proposals before a County Council. Indiana LTAP neither endorses nor opposes passage of a LOHUT. The revenue projections it provides are intended to be an aid to well-informed decision-making on the part of a county’s citizens and its County Council.

Law, Media And Political Dissent: The Case Of The Faln, Yanira Reyes
Law, Media And Political Dissent: The Case Of The Faln, Yanira Reyes
Open Access Dissertations
Inspired on the works of scholars and activists that had denounced state repression of political activists in the United States, this research explores the theoretical proposal about the criminalization of political dissidence. The proposal of the criminalization of political dissidence is analyzed through the study of the case of Puerto Rican pro-independence organization Fuerzas Armadas de Liberaci6n Nacional, F.A.L.N. The subjects of this research were charged with seditious conspiracy and other charges. They claimed the status of prisoners of war and deny the jurisdiction of US courts over them. Affirming their right to fight for the independence of Puerto Rico, …
Reading Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" In Post-Communist Bulgaria, Kornelia Slavova
Reading Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" In Post-Communist Bulgaria, Kornelia Slavova
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Kornelia Slavova, in her paper "Reading Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' in Post-communist Bulgaria," discusses the intricate interrelations of texts and social practices in postcommunist Bulgaria by analysing Rosa Liksom's short story read by sixty readers. Further, Slavova proposes the study of the uses of stereotypes in fiction and their discursive hardening in extratextual practices at times of radical political and cultural change. With this notion, she focuses on two major stereotypical patterns concerning gender and the supranational opposition East/West. Slavova argues that the latter function as palimpsest structures on which earlier bipolar representations from the communist Cold-War era …

Reading Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" In Post-Communist Estonia, Malle Järve
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her paper, "Reading Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' in Post-communist Estonia," Malle Järve discusses the reception of Rosa Liksom's text in post-communist Estonia. After gaining independence, Estonians became exposed to varieties of literature including avant-garde texts which did not fit easily with the expectations and rules of interpretation developed during Soviet rule. Based on data collected in 1993 and 1998, Järve focuses on the cultural repertoire (discourses, stereotypes, values, literary expectations, etc.) used by readers while constructing meaning to the text, perceived predominantly as foreign/Other. Järve's objective is an attempt to explain: 1) who/what the Other in the …

Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" And (Finnish) Identity Construction, Kimmo Jokinen
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In his paper, "Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' and (Finnish) Identity Construction," Kimmo Jokinen proposes the validity of common belief today that a shift into a late-modern era is taking place. It has often been claimed in contemporary sociological debates that our "post-industrial" life has become more thoroughly imbricated with culture and signs and sociologists, in their analyses of contemporary life, are interested especially in stories people tell, hear, and read. Based on readers' survey data in Finland, Jokinen analyses the ways in which Rosa Liksom's short story "We Got Married" is being employed in identity construction. For Jokinen, …
Reading Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" In A Cultural And Political Perspective, Erkki Vainikkala
Reading Liksom's Short Story "We Got Married" In A Cultural And Political Perspective, Erkki Vainikkala
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In his paper, "Reading Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' in a Cultural and Political Perspective," Erkki Vainikkala examines Rosa Liksom's short story as well as one reader's response to the text. In Vainikkala's analysis, the short story is described as a structure of inversions and reversals where sequences are opened and cut short, standpoints are offered and taken back immediately, and where the code of realism is suggested but not carried out as the development of the story lacks convincing motivation. The resulting effect of exhaustion, evident also in the manifestation of pathological narcissism in the story, is seen …
