The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the bond component of the supervisory alliance and trainee disclosure of clinically relevant events in supervision. This is a procedural replication of Okek’s 2013 study using a novel analog-based survey assessing for willingness and likelihood of disclosure provided scenarios in psychotherapy practice, as well as bond, degree of collaboration in the supervisory relationship, and degree of hierarchy within the respondents’ respective internship training sites. One hundred, eighty-nine predoctoral psychology interns (N = 189) completed the web-based self-report questionnaires assessing willingness and likelihood of disclosure provided scenarios in psychotherapy practice, …

Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom are the first long-term wars fought with an all-volunteer army. This has led to fewer available soldiers who are deployed more frequently and for longer periods of time. The impact of these deployments is significant and has been found to increase likelihood for substance abuse, mental health disorders, and concerns in the veteran, or service member’s, social functioning and overall adjustment upon returning to civilian life. Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), an empirically supported and evidence-based third-wave behavioral approach for treatment of couples, is examined in this multiple case study. Specifically, the qualitative experiences of therapists using IBCT in their work with intercultural couples are examined through each therapist’s typed responses to open-ended questions. Each participating therapist in this study contributes by describing one case in which IBCT was used to help the couple navigate cultural differences as part of treatment. The path to adulthood has traditionally been marked by demographic transitions, such as graduating from college, attaining employment, becoming married, and having a child. Previous models of development have conceptualized adolescence as a time of identity exploration and consolidation. However, in the US, as well as many other countries, the timeline for attaining the aforementioned markers has been delayed. Additionally, a significant portion of individuals between the ages of 18 to 29, across several counties, report not seeing themselves fully as adults, and ascribing internal changes, such as taking responsibility for one’s actions, as more indicative of adulthood status. This critical analysis of the literature is a comprehensive review of the available literature on suicide within the Latina/o population. Specifically, the literature was examined in an effort to identify the risk factors that identify Latina/o adolescents as one of the most vulnerable ethnic groups that engage in suicidal behaviors as well as most significant protective factors that shield this group from suicide and suicidal behavior. One hundred ninety-two articles were critically analyzed and evaluated to identify strengths, weakness, and gaps in the literature particularly as it relates to future research. This study examined multiple dimensions of well-being among adults with identified religious or spiritual affiliations utilizing the Multidimensional Well-Being Assessment (MWA). This study focused on transcendent well-being and its dimensions of religiosity/spirituality and meaning/purpose/flow. A non-random sample of 492 participants with identified religious or spiritual affiliations completed multiple measures of well-being as part of a larger psychometric investigation of the MWA. This study supports the MWA as a valid and reliable measure of transcendent well-being among adults with identified religious or spiritual affiliations. The influx of females into the military in recent years has drawn increasing attention to the impact of extended and often repeated deployments on parent-child attachment. The challenges associated with deployment may be particularly taxing on young children due to their emotional and cognitive immaturity, lack of coping skills and dependence on their caregivers for daily functioning. This critical analysis of the literature is a comprehensive collection and review of the literature on the strengths-based perspective as it is applied to the treatment of substance use disorders. Literature was collected, analyzed, and critically evaluated to consolidate the existing research on strengths-based treatment approaches, identify ways in which the strengths-based perspective is congruent with culturally competent practice, and to identify strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in the literature. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the supervisory alliance and countertransference disclosure of social work trainees in direct practice. Eighty-six social work trainees in direct practice, receiving supervision in field placement, (N = 86; 89.5% female, 8.1% male; 73.3% White, 11.6% Hispanic\Latino; 5.8% Asian/Pacific Islander, 4.7% bi-racial; 3.5% African American/Black) completed Internet-administered self-report questionnaires assessing comfort with and likelihood of countertransference disclosure in supervision, supervisory alliance bond, and demographic items. Analyses revealed statistically significant positive correlations between the supervisory alliance and comfort with and likelihood of countertransference disclosure among trainees. This critical analysis of the literature explores the potential of African-centered psychology to address the sequelae of historical trauma in the 21st century persons of African ancestry in the United States. African American face significant health and wellness challenges including socioeconomic disparities, interpersonal violence, substance abuse, psycho-spiritual distress, and physical health issues. The number of college students with mental illness is on the rise, and there is a clear relationship between mental health and academic performance. As many as 5-12% of college students with mental health symptoms may not obtain the supportive services for which they qualify. A significant portion of students with mental health diagnoses may be protected by the ADA if their conditions rise to the level of a psychiatric disability (PD).
