Innovative and enduring solutions to the myriad of complex social and environmental challenges facing the world today require the shared resources and combined talents of government, nonprofit and for-profit sectors. Interactions between these sectors are called cross sector partnerships (CSPs). An example of CSPs, nonprofit patient advocacy organizations (PAOs) are increasingly entering relationships and collaborations with for-profit pharmaceutical companies (FPPCs). Military veterans are facing difficulties when finding jobs after leaving active duty. In November 2009, President Barack Obama signed into effect Executive Order 13518 to establish a hiring initiative to recruit more veterans in the federal government. As a result, the employment opportunities of veterans improved as the number of veterans increased in the federal workforce. The purpose of the study was to identify predictors that influence a learner’s motivation in a self-directed online business administration course in learning contexts by collecting a sample size population, sample of demographics, and indicators from online students from Business Administration Department at a Southern California Community College. The study explored significant correlation between students’ motivation and learning strategies in a self-directed online business administration course using demographics. Results from this study show demographics including age, education, and ethnicity were statistically significant, but none of the gender differences were statistically significant. Objective: This study sought to determine the best practices of women leaders in the public sector. Methods: This phenomenological study used purposive sampling to identify women leaders and used the interview protocol. Researcher interviewed 8 women leaders from City, State, County, and higher education agencies. Researcher used public open source Web sites such as LinkedIn and LAAAWPPI to recruit participants, and 12 open-ended interview questions were posed. From these, 5 themes emerged (a) Collaboration, (b) Communication, (c) Be coachable, (d) Manage Bureaucracy, and (e) Have integrity. The purpose of this preliminary study was to assess the effectiveness of the competency-based education systems in order to aid teachers, administrators, and policy/law makers in their evaluation of competency-based education systems. It was a quasi-experimental nonequivalent group design study that used quantitative data to compare competency-based schools to seat time based schools. This study focused on ten New Hampshire public schools that have implemented competency-based systems and compared them to ten similar California schools that utilize the standard seat time based education systems. This mixed methods case study examined the systems thinking component of collaboration through coteaching at inclusive public school environments to facilitate the need of special education students who are presently segregated at nonpublic schools. The goal of this study was to explore the connection between authentic leadership, spirituality, and human development theory to determine if spirituality contributes to the emergence or formation of an authentic leadership identity. An interdisciplinary research approach was conducted by reviewing literature on authentic leadership, spirituality, and human development. A sequential explanatory mixed method design was used to collect and analyze the personal beliefs and life experiences of individuals who were nominated as authentic leaders. This study examines the Feres doctrine, the judicial policy that immunizes service members from civil liability when causing harm to each other. Created by the Supreme Court nearly 70 years ago, the insulation from judicial review is practically absolute, applying to nearly every variety of intra-military harm, from a negligent delivery that leaders to the mother's death to intentional, abhorrent wrongdoing such as sexual assault. Interviews explored (a) motivation of career choice and satisfaction, (b) career challenges, (c) other career areas they explored. This mixed methods study examined the correlation between authentic leadership among management and employee engagement among unionized hourly workers in a major logistics service company and examined the factor of trust between management and union workers. Within a context of positive organizational behavior, by analyzing and comparing results of the Authentic Leadership Inventory and the Employee Engagement Survey and conducting interviews within a business division, the study determined that there are high levels of authentic leadership, employee engagement, and trust with the district where the study took place. This research applied a biopsychosocial (biological, psychological, and social) approach to provide a holistic view of the relationship between music and mental processing. This dissertation studies 7 high-performing middle school principals' leadership styles and programs as measured by their student achievement on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress or CAASPP. The qualitative research includes interviews of these identified school leaders about their self-reported strengths that account for their students' success.
