There currently exists contradictory theories as to where and when the collision between the Palawan microcontinental block and the Philippine Mobile Belt initiated. The working hypothesis of the project is that the tectonic boundaries initially suggested have been incorrectly inferred and instead lie between the islands ofPalawan and Mindoro in a subduction-related thrust zone; the Palawan-Central Philippine collision zone. Presented is a proposal modeled after National Science Foundation (NSF) guidelines for a marine 2D seismic survey to determine these relationships in the Mindoro Straight between the islands ofPalawan and Mindoro in the continental-arc system.
