Instructional technology can be extremely beneficial in teaching science and other subject .areas in the elementary classroom. Instructional technology is the new approach to teaching in which the student learns how to access information and apply that information to other areas. A workshop taught by Dr. Thomas Thompson dealt with the use of the laserdisc and laserdisc player as well as the barcode programs and their implementation in the classroom. The barcodes can be individualized to a teacher's instructional purposes and can also be used as a presentational method for lectures or student presentations.
