An Assessment Of Leadership Traits And The Success Of Six Sigma Projects, Jr. David Chamblee Jan 2010

An Assessment Of Leadership Traits And The Success Of Six Sigma Projects, Jr. David Chamblee

Dissertations

This study identifies specific leadership traits for green and black belt Six Sigma leaders that have a statistical relationship with the success of Six Sigma projects. The study also tests the reliability of a scale created from the Leadership Trait Questionnaire items. Approximately five hundred (N = 500) Six Sigma leaders were selected from a Tyco Electronics database called Tyco Electronics Business Improvement Tracking (TBIT). The criteria for participants were as follow: (a) They were master black belts, black belts, green belts or lean practitioners; (b) Their projects were related to Six Sigma; (c) Their projects had a hard cost …

Investigating Fabrication Methods For Micro Single-Chamber Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Man Yang Jan 2010

Investigating Fabrication Methods For Micro Single-Chamber Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Man Yang

Dissertations

A Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is a green energy technology that offers a cleaner and efficient alternative to fossil fuels. The efficiency and utility of SOFCs can be enhanced by fabricating miniaturized component structures within the fuel cell footprint. This research focuses on the microfabrication of parallel-connected inter-digitized design of micro single chamber SOFC (μ-SC-SOFCs). In this dissertation, candidate micro/nano fabrication techniques to precisely fabricate micro patterns on planar substrates have been studied. These include EBL, soft lithography, photolithography, and direct-writing. After analyzing preliminary results, two combinational approaches were further investigated. The first method involves the combination of the …

Nano-Scaled Fet Device For Cmos Technology, Prabhat Ranjan Pathak Jan 2010

Nano-Scaled Fet Device For Cmos Technology, Prabhat Ranjan Pathak

Dissertations

In this work the 3-D structure of the Accumulation mode (ACM) and Enhance mode (ECM) FinFET was developed by the Taurus-Device Editor. The design of both ACM and ECM FinFET was optimized for high-performance IC applications to meet ITRS specification for Ioff current, for 9nm gate length. The design of ACM and ECM FinFET is optimized, analyzed and compared against each other with respect to Darin Induced Barrier Lower (DIBL), Sub-threshold Swing(SS), operation and performance characteristics with varying electrical and physical parameters Silicon thickness (Tsi), Source/Drain doping gradient (σsd), electrical channel length (Leff ), …

Effects Of Variable Friction Coefficient On The Pressure Distribution Between A Rolling Cylindrical Element And A Deformable Flat Surface, Francis Davis Jan 2010

Effects Of Variable Friction Coefficient On The Pressure Distribution Between A Rolling Cylindrical Element And A Deformable Flat Surface, Francis Davis

Dissertations

The goal of this research is to develop a technique to accurately determine the characteristics of the pressure distribution during a rolling process. The determination of the accurate characteristics of a pressure distribution within the contact zone is essential to the accurate estimation of the energy and power requirements for the plastic deformation of the part. It has been determined by metal formers that the nature of the pressure distribution is very sensitive to the value of the coefficient of friction between the roller and the deformed part. It has also been determined that the physics of the deformation process …

An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Transformational Leadership Characterististics And Multicultural Education Practices In Teacher Educators, Cheresa D. Greene-Clemons Jan 2010

An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Transformational Leadership Characterististics And Multicultural Education Practices In Teacher Educators, Cheresa D. Greene-Clemons

Dissertations

This exploration focused on the relationship of transformational leadership in teacher educators and their multicultural education practices as an avenue to prepare and produce more teachers for the increasingly diverse student population in P-12 Schools. This research was a two-phase sequential mixed method design including quantitative and qualitative data of 21 teacher educators at one Historically Black College and University (Kameron Carolina State University). The data were collected through questionnaires, content analysis, interviews and observations. The two questionnaires utilized were the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire developed by Bass and Avolio (1995) and the Multicultural Education Questionnaire developed by Johnson and Inoue …

High Strain Rate Response Of Eco-Core And Its Modification., Raghu Panduranga Jan 2010

High Strain Rate Response Of Eco-Core And Its Modification., Raghu Panduranga

Dissertations

Eco-Core was previously developed as a fire resistant core material for composite sandwich structures. It was made using a large volume of fly ash (Cenosphere) and a small volume of high char yield binder by a syntactic process. The cellular structure of the material offers a potential for shock and blast mitigation applications. Based on the present study, it was concluded that the processing of Eco-Core is repeatable and the static properties are reproducible. Eco-Core was subsequently modified by a surface coating method and an Impregnation method to enhance its energy absorption capability. The modified Eco-Core was characterized by static …

Anticancer Activity Of Phytolacca Americana Root Extracts And Their Fractions On Breast And Colon Cancer Cells., Lisa Maness Wishon Jan 2010

Anticancer Activity Of Phytolacca Americana Root Extracts And Their Fractions On Breast And Colon Cancer Cells., Lisa Maness Wishon

Dissertations

Phytolacca americana is an herbaceous plant native to North and South America and East Asia. Pokeweed antiviral protein (PAP) has been extracted from this plant and antiviral activity toward Chenopodium quinoa and other viruses has been cited. Conjugated to various monoclonal antibodies, PAP has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 replication and to arrest the proliferation of B-lineage Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia blasts. Since studies involving the activities of P. americana extracts on various cancer cell lines are limited, the major objectives of this study were to: 1) evaluate the antiproliferative activity of three extracts from P. americana against human breast (MCF7) …

Indicators Of Community-Land Grant University Readiness For Engagement From The Community Perspective., Cheryl Lemay Lloyd Jan 2010

Indicators Of Community-Land Grant University Readiness For Engagement From The Community Perspective., Cheryl Lemay Lloyd

Dissertations

This research examines community partner perceptions regarding levels of readiness for engagement in partnerships with universities. Since its inception the American land grant university has been a cornerstone in preparation of people for the role of university partner and engaged citizen. Theories of collaborative and integrative leadership suggests that readiness for engagement on the part of the community partner is important to the success of sustainable partnerships with universities, and for civic engagement in the twenty-first century. This study seeks to understand the community partners‟ perspective by exploring common indicators of community readiness for engagement with universities, and community leader‟s …
