The Multidimensional Nature Of Organizational Commitment Among Information Systems Personnel, Vikram Sethi, David B. Meinert, Ruth C. King, Vijay Sethi
The Multidimensional Nature Of Organizational Commitment Among Information Systems Personnel, Vikram Sethi, David B. Meinert, Ruth C. King, Vijay Sethi
College of Business
Two distinct views of organizational commitment are examined in this study. Affective commitment describes an employee's emotional attachment to, identification with, and involvement in the organization. Continuance commitment is a behavioral view of commitment and describes an attachment to an organization based on "side-bets," or extraneous interests, such as pensions and seniority, which create costs in leaving an organization. These two dimensions are empirically examined for the case of 312 information systems (IS) employees. These findings demonstrate the importance of distinguishing between commitment based on a desire to stay in an organization and commitment based on a need to stay …

Lethal Limits And Sublethal Effects Of Hypoxia On The Amphipod Gammarus Pseudolimnaeus, W. Wyatt Hoback, M. Christopher Barnhart
Lethal Limits And Sublethal Effects Of Hypoxia On The Amphipod Gammarus Pseudolimnaeus, W. Wyatt Hoback, M. Christopher Barnhart
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
The amphipod Gammarus pseudolimnaeus is an important prey species for trout in certain tailwater fisheries below hydropower dams. The effects of low dissolved oxygen (DO) on this species were investigated in laboratory experiments. The duration of survival in anoxia and in lethally low DO concentrations differed among adult female, adult male, and juvenile individuals. Adult females were the group most sensitive to both anoxia and hypoxia; for example, LC50 in hypoxia was 2.00, 1.28, and 1.05 mg/L, respectively, for females, males and juveniles (48 h, 15°C). Juveniles were generally less sensitive to hypoxia but more sensitive to anoxia than were …

X-ray-absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra of thin-film (Formula presented) were measured at the Si K edge and Co (Formula presented) edge using the total electron yield mode. The Si K-edge results for (Formula presented) showed a dramatic reduction of intensity in the first broad feature accompanied by a rise in a relatively strong and sharp feature at higher binding energies when compared to XANES spectra for crystalline Si. We attribute these two features to the Si 1s photoelectron excitations to a broad Si 3p nonbonding band and a relatively narrow band of hybridized Si p-Co 3d antibonding states, respectively. Analysis …
The Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Of Polynesia Revisited: Species Numbers And The Importance Of Sampling Intensity, Lloyd W. Morrison
The Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Of Polynesia Revisited: Species Numbers And The Importance Of Sampling Intensity, Lloyd W. Morrison
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
The ant faunas of three remote Polynesian islands were censused using hand collecting techniques. Known ant species richnesses were increased by factors of 2.3, 3.7, and 4.3, and total species richnesses were estimated with a first-order jackknife estimator. The large increase in species numbers is apparently due to inadequate earlier censuses (which trussed localized and cryptic species) rather than recent immigrations. Tests of species associations revealed more positive than negative interactions among species, on both a pairwise and community-wide basis. There is no evidence that ant species on these islands exclude each other from islands or from communities within islands, …
The Degree Of Copositive Approximation And A Computer Algorithm, Yingkang Hu, Xiang Ming Yu
The Degree Of Copositive Approximation And A Computer Algorithm, Yingkang Hu, Xiang Ming Yu
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
The main results are as follows. (1) Let f ∈ C[0, 1] change its sign a finite number of times; then the degree of copositive approximation of f by splines with n equally spaced knots is bounded by C ω3(f, 1/n) for n large enough. This rate is the best in the sense that ω3 cannot be replaced by ω4. (2) An algorithm is developed based on the proof. (3) The first result above holds for a copositive polynomial approximation of f. (4) If f ∈ C1[0, 1], then the degree of approximation by copositive splines of order r is …
Instability Of Kinetic Roughening In Sputter-Deposition Growth Of Pt On Glass, J. H. Jeffries, J.-K. Zuo, M. M. Craig
Instability Of Kinetic Roughening In Sputter-Deposition Growth Of Pt On Glass, J. H. Jeffries, J.-K. Zuo, M. M. Craig
College of Health and Human Services
Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we have studied the kinetic roughening in the growth of Pt sputter deposited on glass at room temperature for a film thickness range of 15–140 nm. The growth exhibits an irregularly growing mound morphology and shows an instability with anomalous scaling behavior characterized by the √ ln ( t ) dependence of the local slope, where t is the growth time, and also by the roughness exponent α ≃ 0.9 and interface growth exponent β ≃ 0.26 . These characteristics clearly indicate that the growth is consistent with a statistical model of linear diffusion dynamics.
A History Of The Shepherd Of The Hills Dramatizations: The Branson Productions, Michael Lewis Frizell
A History Of The Shepherd Of The Hills Dramatizations: The Branson Productions, Michael Lewis Frizell
MSU Graduate Theses
Harold Bell Wright's most successful novel, The Shepherd of the Hills, was, in the 1920's, ranked behind only The Bible, The Koran, and Gone with the Wind in popularity, and has been filmed five times. The story has been dramatized by several different theatrical agencies, including The Federal Theatre Project and the Poli Players of Connecticut. The Branson, Missouri, productions have been staged by Southern Illinois State University, Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, The Old Mill Players, Inc., and finally The Shepherd of the Hills Historical Society, Inc. This final production was partially responsible for the influx of tourism …
Scanning-Tunneling-Microscopy Study Of Faceting On High-Step-Density Tac Surfaces, J.-K. Zuo, J. Carpinelli, D. M. Zehner, J. F. Wendelken
Scanning-Tunneling-Microscopy Study Of Faceting On High-Step-Density Tac Surfaces, J.-K. Zuo, J. Carpinelli, D. M. Zehner, J. F. Wendelken
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
We have studied the morphologies of the TaC(310), (210), and (110) surfaces using scanning tunneling microscopy. Heating the crystals to high temperatures activates a faceting of these surfaces into a hill-and-valley structure consisting of enlarged (100) terraces and (010) step walls. Step-separation distributions obtained from these surfaces can be well fit by sharp Gaussians and are much narrower than predicted for the noninteracting terrace-step-kink model, indicating a strong repulsive interaction exists between steps on the faceted surfaces. This faceting is suggested to be driven by a decrease in the total step repulsive energy through a reduction of the total number …
