Convex Analysis And Flows In Infinite Networks, Hathaikarn Wattanataweekul
Convex Analysis And Flows In Infinite Networks, Hathaikarn Wattanataweekul
Theses and Dissertations
We study the existence of flows in infinite networks and extend basic theorems due to Gale and Hoffman and to Ford and Fulkerson. The classical approach to finite networks uses a constructive combinatorical algorithm that has become known as the labelling algorithm. Our approach to infinite networks involves Hahn--Banach type theorems on the existence of certain linear functionals. Thus the main tools are from the theory of functional and convex analysis. In Chapter II, we discuss sublinear and linear functionals on real vector spaces in the spirit of the work of K"{o}nig. In particular, a generalization of K"{o}nig's minimum theorem …
Coordination Of Mixed Model Assembly Line Sequencing And Outbound Logistics In The Automotive Industry, Yi Luo
Theses and Dissertations
The thesis addresses the mixed model assembly line sequencing and outbound logistics planning problems in the automotive industry at the operational level. Different from the sequential decision-making procedure used in practice, the thesis proposes a scheme that integrates production sequencing and logistics planning. Mixed integer programs are established for the production sequencing, logistics planning, and integrated problems. The integrated model cannot be solved by commercial solvers in a reasonable amount of time. After studying the optimality properties of the product mode, the thesis proposes a modified integrated model. The results of numerical experiments and simulations demonstrate the benefit of the …
Damage And Stress State Influence On Bauschinger Effect In Aluminum Alloys, J Brian Jordon
Damage And Stress State Influence On Bauschinger Effect In Aluminum Alloys, J Brian Jordon
Theses and Dissertations
In this work, the Bauschinger effect is shown to be intimately tied not only to plasticity but to damage as well. The plasticity-damage effect on the Bauschinger effect is demonstrated by employing different definitions (Bauschinger Stress Parameter, Bauschinger Effect Parameter, the Ratio of Forward-to-Reverse Yield, and the Ratio of Kinematic-to-Isotropic Hardening) for two differently processed aluminum alloys (rolled and cast) in which specimens were tested to different prestrain levels under tension and compression. Damage progression from second phase particles and inclusions that were generally equiaxed for the cast A356-T6 aluminum alloy and elongated for the rolled 7075 aluminum alloy was …
Defining An Alternative Typology For Early Holocene Projectile Points From The Hester Site (22mo569), Northeast Mississippi: A Systematic Approach, Agnes Burris
Theses and Dissertations
There is a universally recognized need for a more refined chronological understanding of the Early Holocene in the Southeast. The Paleoindian/Early Archaic period deposits at the Hester site provide an opportunity to refine the local chronology for northeast Mississippi. Three-dimensional spatial analysis of these deposits revealed the presence of at least four distinct occupations. Attribute-level morphological analysis of projectile points excavated from these occupations indicated that base width, shoulder width, and basal indentation ratio, changed significantly through time. A paradigmatic classification system employing these attributes was used to classify the projectile points from Hester. These classes were successfully seriated indicating …
Hyperspectral Hypertemporal Feature Extraction Methods With Applications To Aquatic Invasives Target Detection, Abhinav Mathur
Hyperspectral Hypertemporal Feature Extraction Methods With Applications To Aquatic Invasives Target Detection, Abhinav Mathur
Theses and Dissertations
In this dissertation, methods are designed and validated for the utilization of hyperspectral hypertemporal remotely sensed data in target detection applications. Two new classes of methods are designed to optimize the selection of target detection features from spectro-temporal space data. The first method is based on the consideration that all the elements of the spectro-temporal map are independent of each other. The second method is based on the consideration that the elements of the spectro-temporal map have some vicinal dependency among them. Methods designed for these two approaches include various stepwise selection methods, windowing approaches, and clustering techniques. These techniques …
Identification, Characterization And Anti-Fungal Activities Of Silk Proteins In Aspergillus Flavus Resistant And Susceptible Maize Inbreds, Bela Peethambaran
Identification, Characterization And Anti-Fungal Activities Of Silk Proteins In Aspergillus Flavus Resistant And Susceptible Maize Inbreds, Bela Peethambaran
Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to understand the mechanism of maize inbreds resistance to A. flavus by exploring the proteins that are differentially regulated in presence of pathogen. Silk has been hypothesized as one of the entry routes of fungal growth and so the proteome of silks was investigated by 1) performing a comparative proteomic study to identify silk proteins that are abundant in resistant maize inbreds and down-regulated or absent in susceptible inbreds, 2) identifying the up-regulated proteins in maize resistant and susceptible inbreds when challenged by A. flavus 3) by mapping the proteome of silk proteins in a A. flavus …
In Search Of Digital Equality In Mississippi's Two Largest Cities: An Examination Of The Digital Divide That Exists Between African And European American-Owned Small Businesses In Jackson And Gulfport, Dwyane Keith Jones
Theses and Dissertations
Does a Digital Divide exist between African and European American-owned small businesses in the South? There is no inferential statistical research literature on this subject. The literature available are usually conjectures made by small business observers who are quoting results from descriptive statistical reports whose samples originate from cities and states in the North. Research indicates that Northern businesses have vastly different racial, gender, educational, and economic characteristics than Southern businesses. Therefore, it is unlikely that business technology data generated from these locations are generalizable to cities in the South. Research also suggests that a technologically urbane small business environment …
Water Supply Potential Of The Meridian-Upper Wilcox Aquifer Grenada, Mississippi, Richard Scott Dykes
Water Supply Potential Of The Meridian-Upper Wilcox Aquifer Grenada, Mississippi, Richard Scott Dykes
Theses and Dissertations
This study was conducted to provide Grenada, Mississippi an assessment of the current groundwater resources available for use from the Meridian-upper Wilcox Aquifer (MUWX), which is the primary source of groundwater for the city, by creating an accurate groundwater model. Public, private, industrial, and agricultural wells; springs; streams; and surface water bodies all exist within the study area. Groundwater data were collected from local, state, and federal agencies. Well locations, groundwater levels, and well pumping rates were all used in determining the aquifer's characteristics, such as, hydraulic conductivity, discharge, and recharge. Location of the recharge area in relation to a …
We'd Love To Have You On Our Show, Alicia Denai Aiken
We'd Love To Have You On Our Show, Alicia Denai Aiken
Theses and Dissertations
We'd Love to Have You on Our Show is a collection of short fiction preceded by a critical introduction. The stories share a thematic bond in that that all of the protagonists are either obsessed with or could be guests on talk shows. The introduction, "The Meaning of Yearning" explores how Robert Olen Butler and Denis Johnson have influenced me as a young writer attempting to write interconnected, character-driven stories. The introduction begins by chronologically showing how I wrote and then how I changed from workshops to writing this thesis, and it concludes by examining character, theme, and humor throughout …
The Relationship Of Student-Life Stress To Marital Dedication Among Married Undergraduate Students And Their Spouses, Linda Hamblin Halbert
The Relationship Of Student-Life Stress To Marital Dedication Among Married Undergraduate Students And Their Spouses, Linda Hamblin Halbert
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated whether a relationship exists between levels of marital dedication and student-life stress among married undergraduate students. Student-life stress was examined using the Student-Life Stress Inventory (SLI) (Gadzella, 1991). Student-life stress was compared to levels of marital dedication (low, moderate, high) using the Relationship Scale (Stanley & Markman, 1992). Differences in student-life stress were examined between male and female students. In addition, differences in levels of marital dedication were examined between students and spouses. Levels of marital dedication were compared to a national sample of relatively happy and committed couples. Lastly, spouses ranked categories that have had the …
