Using exploratory factor analysis to examine self-reported survey data from adult learners, this study identified three factors of cognitive engagement in the adult literacy classroom: program involvement, focus, and independent effort. A model that demonstrates the impact of independent effort on gains in reading test scores was developed using multivariate analysis.

Through an analysis of how women participate in constructing their identities, this paper interrogates the notions of construction of identity (womanhood identity) as a learning activity among women in Lukani Tanzania. Current dominant theoretical framework in adult education and feminist literature have typically positioned African women as “unknowers” and marginalized in the process of knowledge construction and learning-a link thoroughly constructed both by positivists and poststructural theorists who have called attention to African women’s limitation in participating in learning and development.

F.R. Roethlisberger has been recognized as the ”father” of the human relations period of management. Historically, this period was seen as a move towards more humanism in the workplace. This manuscript presents a poststructural analysis of a classic management text from this period. Findings and implications for HRD are presented.

This is a review of transformative learning (TL) since 1998 involving 40 empirical studies. Findings include trends of less emphasis on identifying transformative experiences in different setting, and more about fostering TL and better understanding the nature of critical reflection, relationships, a perspective transformation, and context. This study looked at how women experience the destabilizing effects of change when the flow of their lives is disrupted, either intentionally or unintentionally? The life histories of four women reveal themes of opportunities for re-forming identities, cultural aspects of the self which create meaning for the self and one’s place in the world, and historical factors and positioning within temporal parameters.

This qualitative, multiple case study analysis found that faculty use hybrid courses to facilitate learning by creating a continuous learning loop between the in-person and online environments. Connecting learning in both environments helps students acquire and integrate new knowledge, extend and refine knowledge, and use knowledge meaningfully.

A new approach to the lifelong learning paradigm is required to include transnational learners. This research shows that migrant workers, who by definition belong to multiple communities, seek learning experiences to sustain and enhance capabilities as contemporary workers. This is the case for why global non-elites form transnational agency with learning priorities.

this paper explores the life-experience of six student activists who turned themselves into peasants in their search for social justice and egalitarian society in South Korea. The praxis of the activists crossing class line in the social movement reveals their transformative learning process as well as the development of their own pedagogy of the oppressed.
