Developing And Communicating Effective Program Success Stories For Enhanced Accountability, John G. Richardson
Journal of Applied Communications
This article examines the use of concise success stories to communicate program impacts to identified audiences who require or need accountability information from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension System. In this case study, anecdotal evidence is given for key groups desiring brief and concise reports of agency impacts. The procedures for developing such stories as well as faculty training needs are also discussed. The World-Wide-Web-based reporting system developed by NCCES is described in regard to its being the entry and access location for success story data. Actual examples of success stories that have been written by field and campus faculty …

Sustainability Of Scientific Journals In The Developing World With Special Reference To Bangladesh, Hasan Shareef Ahmed, A. Mushtaque R. Chowdhury, M. Shamsul Islam Khan, A. K. M. Ahsan Ullah
Journal of Applied Communications
The study explores sustainability of scientific journal publication in Bangladesh. Forty-three journal editors were interviewed, and 66 current journals were physically examined for production quality, regularity of publication, and availability at concerned libraries. Findings revealed that 68% of the journals were published late, 30% had inconsistencies in typesetting, and 14% were indexed. Most journals were found either excellent or of good quality in terms of printing (85%), binding (77%), paper (92%), and graphic reproduction (76%). Most journals were not available in major libraries under study. Of the 43 editors, 28 (35%) reported a cost recovery of 1-45% from subscriptions, advertisements, …

Interpersonal Communication Strengthens Web-Based Instruction, Joseph L. Donaldson, Joan S. Thomson
Interpersonal Communication Strengthens Web-Based Instruction, Joseph L. Donaldson, Joan S. Thomson
Journal of Applied Communications
This study describes the interpersonal communication preferences (instructor-to-student and student-to-student) among undergraduates surveyed in a freshmen seminar in the College of Agricultural Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University. The purpose was to investigate communication preferences among students at the University Park (main) campus and three Commonwealth (branch) campuses and describe implications for World Wide Web (Web) instruction. Findings indicated significant differences between student attitudes toward student-to-student and instructor-to-student communication. With regard to success in a course, students at the Commonwealth campuses placed more importance on both student-to-student and instructor-to-student communication. The findings indicate the need for educators incorporating the Web …

Some Questions About Distance Learning And The Role Of The University, W. Franklin Spikes
Educational Considerations
One can easily argue that the world of higher education is a microcosm of today’s larger society. While colleges and universities have traditionally been organized around what some suggest are the rather ethereal pursuits of learning, teaching, and research, today’s campuses are increasing being challenged by the same intense, substantial and practical social issues that are present in the more broadly defined world that exists outside of their boundaries.

Online Instruction As A Pedagogy: Implications For Higher Education Faculty, Edward L. Meyen
Online Instruction As A Pedagogy: Implications For Higher Education Faculty, Edward L. Meyen
Educational Considerations
Because online instruction incorporates instructional design and management, asynchronous learning, the process of communication, technology, and the opportunity for accountability in the teaching/learning process, it can be considered a form of pedagogy.
Collaboration And Conflict: Multi-Disciplinary Teams Developing Multimedia For Preservice And Inservice Education, Linda P. Thurston
Collaboration And Conflict: Multi-Disciplinary Teams Developing Multimedia For Preservice And Inservice Education, Linda P. Thurston
Educational Considerations
Interactive multimedia is becoming a fixed feature in the delivery of instruction at all educational levels. The process of multimedia places the learning potential of technology in the hands of the learner and such features as screen design, interactivity, audio and video elements, and learner control and navigation are educationally effective.
