Distance education is a useful tool for agricultural and extension education departments in the delivery of courses to students. However, faculty, instructional designers, and agricultural communicators must understand the needs of learners in order for courses to be effective. A mail survey was conducted to assess the demand by agricultural science graduates for courses delivered by distance education and their skills and experiences in using distance education technologies. The majority of agricultural science graduates were interested in taking courses by distance education for professional development and advanced degrees. Assessment Of Learner Outcomes As A Model For Evaluation Of Distance Education, Joan Laughlin

The graduate faculty of the College of Human Resources and Family Sciences, University of Nebraska, distance deliver a Master of Science degree. Twenty-four graduates participated in the Assessment of Student Outcomes (89% participation rate) wherein students rated their self-efficacy (Bandura, 1986) in meeting course objectives. The goal was that 80% of graduates would rate the master’s program as adequately preparing them for their post-master’s professional role; and they would rate themselves as being able to locate, analyze and use resources, to interpret data in research reports and to use these research findings in professional roles. Perceptions Of Iowa Beginning Farmers Toward The Delivery Of Education, Larry D. Trede, Scott Whitaker

Journal of Applied Communications

The results of this research show that Iowa beginning farmers prefer radio and information services for the delivery of beginning farmer education. At the same time, these same farmers viewed the Extension Service as an important educational provider. Research was conducted to identify the perceptions of beginning farmers toward education, educational providers, and educational media. A sample of beginning farmers was surveyed in 1997. This study revealed they prefer on-site educational instruction, single meetings, community-based education, and were “neutral” (had no opinion) about the future usefulness of cutting-edge technologies as a delivery method.
