Gwu Receives Another National Accolade For Online Business Programs, Office Of University Communications

Gardner-Webb University’s online Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree ranks among the top programs in the country, according to a recent study of more than 300 universities that offer the distinction. Compiled by OnlineMBAReport.com, the recognition marks the third time this year that the University’s online graduate business programs have received national honors. Online MBA Report (OMBAR) ranks Gardner-Webb at No. 33 overall nationwide for MBA programs, ahead of schools including Florida State University (Tallahassee, Fla.), Mississippi State University (Starkville, Miss.), East Carolina University (Greenville, N.C.) and Pepperdine University (Malibu, Calif.).

A longtime Gardner-Webb University professor and dean of the Godbold School of Business has been named president of a business school accreditation group’s board of directors. Dr. Anthony Negbenebor will lead the 2014-15 directing board of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), which promotes continuous improvement and recognizes excellence among business education programs around the world. He has been an active member of ACBSP for more than 14 years, serving on the board of directors, as chair of the personnel committee, board liaison to the strategic planning committee, and co-chair of the annual conference committee.

Local high school students are learning professional skills from business leaders this week during an annual free program at Gardner-Webb University. The GWU Godbold School of Business presents the 9th annual B.E.S.T. (Bringing Executives and Students Together) Program beginning July 23 through July 25. The program gives rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders an opportunity to learn from entrepreneurs and other community leaders.

Gardner-Webb University’s Godbold School of Business senior seminar classes recently offered assistance that helped guide the direction of local businesses, allowing students valuable hands on experience in planning and operating a business. Communities in Schools (CIS) of Cleveland County Thrift Store and Broad River Coffee and Cone, both located in Boiling Springs, N.C., were recipients of in depth analysis reports serving to benefit their operations. Over the past two semesters select classes at the Godbold School of Business served as consultants for these projects under the guidance of Oscar Zamora, a professor of business administration and management for the School.

The national retailer most widely known as Sears recently announced store closings across the United States, with its Shelby, N.C. location set to close by early spring. The store, within close proximity to Gardner-Webb University, has been a staple of the retail community for over 60 years. The U.S. News and World Report “2014 Best Online Graduate Programs” rankings are in, and Gardner-Webb University is being counted among the nation’s best with three of its online graduate program offerings. The GWU Godbold Graduate School of Business, the GWU Graduate School of Education, and the GWU Graduate School of Nursing all showed significant improvement from last year’s scores. Each program landed in the top third of total college and university rankings for 2014.
