For the seventh consecutive year, Gardner-Webb University has been named to the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the U.S. Department of Education. Less than 100 institutions across the nation received the honor this year, and GWU is one of just 38 schools to be recognized “With Distinction.” Launched in 2006, the Honor Roll recognizes those institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities.

Gardner-Webb University was named a top 50 Southern university by College Choice in its first annual “best of” list. The rankings were based on equally-weighted factors freshmen indicated were most important to their college decision, including academic reputation, financial aid offerings, overall cost, and success of graduates in the post-college job market.“We are certainly gratified to see Gardner-Webb University included in the College Choice rankings,” GWU Provost and Executive Vice President Ben Leslie offered.

Dr. Jack and Mrs. Ruby Hunt, noted public servants and staunch supporters of a wide range of community projects, have committed a generous gift to the University to establish the Hunt School of Nursing. Gardner-Webb University President Dr. Frank Bonner believes the Hunt family represents community service at its finest, and the partnership with the University will benefit both current and future nursing students.

The Gardner-Webb University Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the purchase of a 53,500-square-foot building that will house the new College of Health Sciences. Officials from Cleveland County Healthcare System (CCHS) have confirmed the sale of Crawley Memorial Hospital, located at 315 W. College Ave., to Gardner-Webb University, effective later this month. The property is owned by Carolinas Healthcare System based in Charlotte, N.C.

The news and analysis publisher ranks GWU’s online graduate business degree No. 1 in the Carolinas and No. 13 nationwide among institutions that offer the highest-quality programs to meet the educational needs of former service members. The ranking required institutions to be certified for the GI Bill, participate in several specific programs that offer educational benefits to veterans, and to provide overall affordability, faculty credentials, student services and a positive reputation.

A man with both a heart for his hometown community and a desire to help future school administrators will transition to the next phase of his successful career with a faculty position at the Gardner-Webb University Graduate School of Education beginning in August of this year, university officials announced Jan. 31.
