The Word: Jacques Ellul's Dialogic Response To La Technique, Jeffrey S. Bogaczyk
The Word: Jacques Ellul's Dialogic Response To La Technique, Jeffrey S. Bogaczyk
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this interpretive work is primarily to bring two Ellulian metaphors into conversation with one another: la technique, and “the word.” Jacques Ellul (1912-1994), a prominent French philosopher, sociologist, and theologian, is predominantly known for his critique of what he calls la technique, an underlying system which acts as an all-encompassing feature of necessity, which privileges the values of efficiency, speed, and progress in all societal endeavors, and which serves as the predominant interpretive lens by which we can examine and understand our current historical and cultural moment. Technique had its origination in the value system of …
The Church As A Eucharistic And Prophetic Community In India: A Theological Exploration Into The Challenges And Implications Of A Eucharistic Ecclesiology Based On The Early Church And The Statements Of The Indian Theological Association (Ita), Shibi Devasia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Theological trends change from time to time to make the faith more meaningful and relevant to the contemporary context. To an extent, the Second Vatican Council, by its commitment to two concepts, “ressourcement” and “aggiornamento,” succeeded in this mission in the last century. The communion ecclesiology of the Council, which has its foundation in the sacrament of Eucharist, shows that the centrality of the Eucharist in the Church cannot be overlooked, because the ecclesial body of the Church is built up by the Eucharistic body of Christ. Any Eucharist-centered ecclesiology is prophetic and eschatological by nature. The “Eucharistic” and …
Designing A Calibration Set In Spectral Space For Efficient Development Of An Nir Method For Tablet Analysis, Md Anik Alam
Designing A Calibration Set In Spectral Space For Efficient Development Of An Nir Method For Tablet Analysis, Md Anik Alam
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Designing a calibration set is the first step in developing a spectroscopic calibration method for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical tablets. This step is critical because successful model development depends on the suitability of the calibration data. For spectroscopic-based methods, traditional concentration based techniques for designing calibration sets are prone to have redundant information while simultaneously lacking necessary information for a successful calibration model. The traditional method also follows the same design approach for different spectroscopic techniques and different formulations, thereby lacks the optimizing capability to be technique and formulation specific.
A method for designing a calibration set in the Near …
Jean-Luc Marion And Gianni Vattimo’S Contributions For The Postmodern Faith, Michael Mcgravey
Jean-Luc Marion And Gianni Vattimo’S Contributions For The Postmodern Faith, Michael Mcgravey
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Catholic theology in the postmodern era has encountered various cultural or narrative shifts—both negative and positive—which have helped shape the Roman Catholic Church and Christianity at large. Negatively, the Church has been affected by external factors (e.g., globalization, immigration/emigration, increased access to technology, etc.) and internal struggles (e.g., reduced church attendance, an aging population, etc.). Positively, as others have suggested, postmodernity has ushered in a return to religion through new philosophical and theological ideas (e.g., phenomenology, existentialism, post-metaphysics, etc.). This dissertation aims to contribute to the ongoing postmodern concerns addressed in the cultural and narrative shifts, by focusing on the …
Comparison Of Two Methods Of Pediatric Triage Education, Catherine Recznik
Comparison Of Two Methods Of Pediatric Triage Education, Catherine Recznik
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Introduction. The majority of pediatric emergency patients are seen in mixed-age emergency departments and triaged by general emergency nurses. Educational methods for teaching pediatric triage education to general emergency nurses have not been well studied, and previous studies of the use of the Emergency Severity Index in children have been performed primarily in centers that are high volume for pediatrics. Methods. A repeated measures, randomized crossover study comparing two different methods of pediatric triage education was conducted. Participants were general emergency triage nurses recruited from a general emergency department that is classified as low volume for pediatrics. Each participant was …
The Core Relation Between Hospitality (Philoxenia), Dignity And Vulnerability In Orthodox Christian Bioethics: A Contribution To Global Bioethics, Rabee Toumi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In a pluralistic world, reaching consensus in matters of bioethics has proved to be difficult, especially with the political polarization that nurtures inimical differences. This dissertation argues that a middle ground can be identified between the plurality of value systems in contemporary bioethics based on an anthropological approach. This middle ground that reflects commonalities of the human condition can be explored in relation to the foundational principles of Orthodox Christian anthropology. To identify this middle ground the analysis discusses the core relation between hospitality, dignity, and vulnerability as a contribution to global bioethics.
In general, based on Orthodox Christian theology …
An Ethical Framework For Organizational Resource Allocation For Patient Services In Health Care, Natalie Dick
An Ethical Framework For Organizational Resource Allocation For Patient Services In Health Care, Natalie Dick
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Unanswered questions on how to allocate scarce resources in health care settings are often left to either bedside decision-making or, at best, the organizational policy level. Yet, there is little attention and no consensus on how organizational policy should address resource allocation in health care. An ethically sound framework is needed to guide policy development for resource allocation within health care organizations. In addition, a more comprehensive study of concepts tied to moral obligations of health care organizations is needed in terms of human rights, health disparities, and patient care quality. Until now, human rights literature has largely focused on …
The Contribution Of Ethical Reasoning Skills In Forensic Science, Lyndsie Ferrara
The Contribution Of Ethical Reasoning Skills In Forensic Science, Lyndsie Ferrara
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Forensic science applies scientific methods to matters related to the legal system. Members of the forensic field are part of the criminal justice system charged with upholding justice through science. Numerous wrongful convictions and ethical issues involving forensic science indicate a need to dissect the field from a different perspective. Stories in the media regularly identify ethical issues in forensic science ranging from individual misconduct to systemic organizational failures that lead to injustice. Even with these journalistic investigations, a lack of awareness remains regarding the contribution of ethical reasoning skills in forensic science. This dissertation addresses that gap in the …
Enhancing Quality Ethics Consultations In Pediatric Medicine, Ariel Clatty
Enhancing Quality Ethics Consultations In Pediatric Medicine, Ariel Clatty
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Medical ethics consultations occur predominantly in the adult realm of medicine, alternatively in Pediatric Medicine there is a widespread lack of training and skilled professionals to service these requests. Most of the literature in pediatric ethics consultations revolves around mirroring adult ethics consultations. An Ethical Framework For Communication Of Prognosis In Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Amanda Mattone
An Ethical Framework For Communication Of Prognosis In Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Amanda Mattone
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this dissertation is to create an ethical framework for communication of prognosis in the pediatric critical care setting. This dissertation argues that an ethical framework for communication of prognosis in the pediatric critical care setting is necessary because ethical communication transactions lead to better care for pediatric patients in critical care by enabling surrogate decision makers to make well-informed decisions. Moreover, a lack of effective communication skills can be detrimental to the patient. The need for such a framework is revealed by research indicating that physicians often lack the necessary education and skills for effective communication transactions …
Using An Ethics Of Care To Re-Interpret Consent In The Management Of Care For Addiction Disorders, Diann Ecret
Using An Ethics Of Care To Re-Interpret Consent In The Management Of Care For Addiction Disorders, Diann Ecret
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Patients who suffer from the biological, genetic, epigenetic neurocognitive dysfunction and social sequela of substance use disorders and addiction require the empowering support from healthcare professionals; necessitating the need to utilize an ethics of care to re-interpret consent for the management of care for those who suffer from substance use disorders and addiction. The care of the ‘other’ should embrace a care paradigm that is relational and collaborative in order to eliminate constructs of stigma, moral weakness and individual blame, which isolates those who manifest the trajectory of harms associated with addiction pathology. Relational consent and an ethics of care …
