Sprague Library Scholarship and Creative Works

How can we encourage faculty to deposit their scholarly works in our university’s institutional repository (IR)? What motivates faculty to self-archive, and participate in the IR? The who self-archives question can be easily answered, but the why questions involve more rigor to find answers and create solutions. While there has been considerable attention dedicated to the development, implementation, and the initial population of content into the IR at Montclair State, there has been no data collection used to evaluate the IR, in regards to faculty awareness, and motivation to participate, and continued participation, that can help to strategically influence outreach …

Their adoption reflects larger national trends in outcomes assessment, teaching and learning, and regional accreditation. Faculty at LaGuardia Community College sought model assignments with reflections on their design that speak to the college’s core competencies— integrative learning, inquiry and problem-solving, and global learning—and the communication abilities that students use to express them—written, oral, and digital communication abilities. In response, the college’s assessment leaders looked to the assignment library created by the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) for inspiration. It Takes A Village: Populating The Institutional Repository With Performing Arts Content, Anne Shelley

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

Managing an institutional repository is not a project in its own right: rather, it is an operational service that involves conversations with faculty, students, and other content providers. This article presents a case study of how the author, a music librarian and institutional repository manager at Illinois State University, approached adding thousands of items from the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts into the institutional repository, ISU ReD: Research and eData.

With our IT department preparing to upgrade the University of Georgia’s Alexander Campbell King Law Library (UGA Law Library) website from Drupal 7 to 8 this fall, a web developer, an archivist, and a librarian teamed up a year ago to make plans for preserving thousands of born-digital images. We wanted to harvest photographs housed only in web-based photo galleries on the law school website and import them into our repository’s collection. The problem? There were five types of online photo galleries, and our current repository did not include appropriate categories for all of the photographs. The solution? Expand our …
